This study is about the texts and meaning of the travelers' Kasa(an abbreviation: T.K.) of the Kumgang Mountain(an abbreviation: K. M.). I saw about 15 texts of the T.K. with my own eyes. They are divided into some groups according to the correlation of the content affinity among the texts. And we ascertained that the groups are classified into the upper class according to the affinity among them, therefore the system-relation can be formed. Of course, I have to admit the weak point of this study that I omitted the minute comparison and correction to the letters and phrases of the texts. The texts surviving now are divided into the Cheonji system, the Wonseang system, Ouhwa system, Jang'an system, Kumgang 1 system, Kumgang 2 system. The Cheonji system is divided into the two lower systems, the Wonsaeng system into the three lower systems, the Ouhwa system into the three lower systems, the others into the one lower system now. Whenever the other texts appear newly, the system diagram must be modified. Jeonjip-bon 1·2, Baek'young-bon, Gungjungjaprok-bon, Yondae-bon belong to the Cheonji system, Akbu-bon, Haksan-bon. BarkKumgang-bon to the Wonsaeng system, Butnim-bon 1· 2, Naesari-bon, Insaeng-bon to the Ouhwa system,Jeonjip-bon to the Jang'an system, Kumgangbyeolgok in the Jeonjip to the Kumgang 1 system, Kumgangbyeolgok in the Kasajip to the Kumgang 2 system. There is no original text of each system. Almost all the texts are the 2nd or 3rd transcription from the original text. We don't know the names of the writers or transcripters of T.K. about K.M. except for the one or two texts. The small number of the writers that we know their names are Buddhist monk or learned man in the rural district. There is no exception in that they are professing to have an object of sightseeing tour, and emphasizing the sanctity of the Kumgang Mountain. The Buddhist circle was all anxious for keeping its preemptive rights about the mountain. So they substituted the mountain's traditional name for Kumgang. And they gave the Buddhist meaning to the natural features in the Mountain. Kasa played a decisive role in putting the Mountain in place of a sacred space. The role itself was also an important part of making it as a meaningful existence. By the way, all the texts were forward in the late Chosun Dynasty, for the trend of picnic became popular in the intelligentzia group. The T.K. of K.M. must be one of the cultural things which it has been transcribed and held in common in the intelligentzia group. I will study the writings other than Buddhist literary works and compare them. It is possible to make secure of the objectivity about the result of my study through the work.
