공연예술콜렉션은 공연예술에 관한 학문적 연구와 일반인들의 감상 모두를 돕는 가치로운 자원이다. 샌프란시스코 공연 및 디자인 박물관에 대한 집중적인 사례연구 및분석을 한 본 논문은 기관의 아카이브가 형성되게 된 역사 및 문화적 배경과 다양한 형태의 콜렉션 자료들에 대한 설명을 포함한다. 특히 본 논문에서 설명은 춤과 관련된 자료들에만 초점을 맞추고 있다. 본 사례연구를 통해 샌프란시스코 공연 및 디자인 박물관의 임무, 정책, 교육 프로그램, 직원 개발, 시설 등에 대한 분석을 진행 하였으며 이에 대한 의견도 제시하였다. 또한 다양한 출판물들을 바탕으로 한 참고문헌과 함께 무용 기록과 보존 활동을 가장 잘 수행하고 있는 개인 및 지지 기관에 관한자료 목록도 제공하고 있다. Performing arts collections are a valuable resource to support both scholarly research and public appreciation of the performing arts. A detailed case study and analysis of the Museum of Performance & Design in San Francisco includes the historical and cultural context from which the archive emerged and descriptions of collection materials in a variety of formats. Descriptions are selective, focusing on materials related specifically to dance holdings. Based on this case study, comments follow analyzing the Museum’s mission, policy, educational programs, staff development, and facilities. References from a variety of publications areprovided, with a resource list on service and advocacy organizations and individuals involved in the best practices of dance documentation and preservation activities.
