The average number of empty seeds per cone on the mature tree was 10.03±0.61. The ratios of empty seeds to total seeds and to full seeds were 7.38±0.35% and 8.42±0.49%, respectively in average. The number of empty seeds per cone and the ratios were varied with the site condition; fruited year, and individual tree. The contribution rates of these sources of variance to the number of empty seeds per cone were respectively 3.50%, 8.06%, and 55.41%. No correlationships were found between the amount of empty seeds in number or ratio and the cone production, and the D.B.H. of mother tree. However, both the number of empty seeds and the ratio of empty seeds to total seeds showed significant positive correlations with the number of 1-year-old cones per tree.

Experiments were conducted to investigate the rooting of cuttings of Japanese Yew (Taxodium distichum Rich.) as influenced by ages of cutting, preparation methods, and some treatments of cut surface. Cutting of 2-year-old twig rooted better than older cuttings when compared in terms of number of roots and root length. Cuttings prepared as single rod type showed better survival ratio, more roots, and longer root length than heel cuttings. Soaking the cut surface in water enhanced rooting of cuttings than heating treatment.

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of infestation rate by the pine gall midge on several characters of cone and seed in Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc. 'The results were summarized as follows: 1. 'The averages of cone characters were 31.59 ± 0.61 mm in length, 19.12 ± 0.28 mm in diameter, 6.06 ± 0.22 g in fresh weight, and 3.17 ± 0.12 g in dry weight. Most these characters have a tendency to decrease with increase of tree age and with increase in infestation rate. 2. The averages of seed characters were 4.94 ± 0.06 mm in length, 3.06 ± 0.08 mm in diameter, 1.83 ± 0.02 mm in thickness, and 8.33 ± 0.34 mg in weight. Most these characters have a tendency to decrease with the increase in infestation rate. 3. Most coefficients of correlation showed negative relationships between infestation rate and each character of cone and seed, but they were not significant statistically.

This study was carried out to know the effect of cone production on diameter increment in Pinus koraiensis. For the cone production per tree, the number of one year-old immature cone and 2 year-old mature cone and the latter's weight were investigated, and for the diameter increment, width of annual ring and it's relative value to the radius were investigated for the 28 individuals of 45 year-old tree over a period of 4 years. And then the correlation between cone production and diameter increment were investigated. The results obtained are as follows: 1. A significant correlation between the number of immature cone (one year-old cone) and the width of annual ring was not recognizable. 2. A negative correlation between the number of mature cone and the width of annual ring was found significantly. 3. A large quantity of the mature cone production decreased not only the diameter increment in the year, but also effected the following year increment.

This research was performed to estimate the seedling growth of Korean white pine based on open ground storage period to stimulate seed germination. The results are as follows: 1. The length of seedlings gradually increased as the storage period was delayed. The contribution rate to seedling growth by storage period was 23.84%. 2. The diameter was irregular, but larger with early open ground storage. The contribution rate to diameter by storage period was 38.25%. 3. The Seedling weight showed a tendency to be decreased with late seed storge. The contribution rate to weight growth by storage period was 18.41%.
