        월성 원자력 발전소 주변 해역의 장기간 수온관측

        월성 원자력 발전소 주변해역에 대한 장기간 수온관측을 실시하여, 수온의 장기간 변화양상, 수평 수온분포 및 연직 수온분포 특성을 분석하였다. 관측기간은 1996년 11월 10일부터 1997년 8월 22일까지 약 280 일간이며, 발전소 인근 10 개 정점에 표층 수온관측기를 설치하고 10 분 간격으로 표층수온의 연속관측을 실시하였다. 또한, 수온의 연직구조를 파악하기 위하여 배수구 인근 2 개 정점에 수심별 수온관측기를 계류하여 20 분 간격으로 표층으로부터 수심 10 m까지 1 m 간격으로 수온을 측정하였다. 관측정점들에 대한 월평균수온의 최저치는 2월의 $12.8^{\circ}C$ 였으며, 최고치는 8월의 $19.6^{\circ}C$였다. 6월~8월에는 냉수가 관측해역에 수시로 출현하는 것으로 관측되었다. 표층수온의 일평균 분포에 따르면, 발전소 미가동 시기였던 1996년 11월과 대조적으로, 발전소 가동이 재개된 1996년 12월 이후에는 발전소 배수구를 중심으로 고수온 영역이 항상 존재했다. 매 시간별 수평 수온분포를 분석한 결과, 고온의 해수가 발전소 배수구를 중심으로 반일주기의 남북이동을 하는 것으로 관측되었으며, 매 시간별 연직 수온분포에서도 표층에 반일주기의 고온수가 나타나는 것으로 조사되었다. 스펙트럼 분석결과, 1997년 2~4월의 경우 발전소 배수구에 가까운 정점들에서 반일주기 성분이 우세하게 관측되었으며, 이는 반일주기 조류에 의해 온배수가 이동, 확산된 결과로 해석된다. 1997년 8원에는 발전소 배수구에 가정 가까운 정점 12를 제외한 모든 정점에서 일주기 성분이 우세하게 나타났는데, 이는 온배수에 비해 대양복사에너지가 훨씬 우세하게 작용한 때문으로 사료된다. The long-term observation of temperature in the coastal waters adjacent to the Wolsung Nuclear Power Plant has been carried out from November 10, 1996 to August 22, 1997, for approximately 280 days using a real-time temperature measurement buoy system. The sea-surface temperature was measured at every 10 minute using 10 buoys. The vertical structure of temperature was investigated near the outlet of the plant with two thermistor chains equipped with 10 sensors at 1 m interval The monthly averaged temperature was the lowest with spatial average of $12.8^{\circ}C$ in February and was the highest in August with spatial average of $19.6^{\circ}C$. The extremely low temperature was frequently observed between June and August, which seems to be the consequence of the intrusion of cold water near the southeastern coast of Korea. Distributions of the daily and hourly averaged temperature show that the highest temperature always occurred near the outlet of the plant and the warm-water patch moved along the north-south direction with the semidiurnal period. The semidiurnal fluctuation of temperature was also observed near the surface of the vertical profiles. The spectral analysis of temperature between February and April 1997 shows that the semidiurnal components prevailed near the outlet. It is likely that the semidiurnal components were due to the prevailing semidiurnal tide in this region. In August 1997, the diurnal components were dominant at the surface water of all stations except Station 12, which suggests that the warm water from the outlet of the plant has less effects in summer on the surrounding waters than the strong solar radiation.

      • 동해의 해수 순환에 대한 Numerical Modelling 연구 -I. 폐쇄해역으로 가정한 경우

        Applying the numerical scheme developed by Semtner (1974), we investigate the circulation system in the Japan Sea in response to the air-sea interaction and the wind. In spite of blocking straits, resulting surface circulation pattern is similar to the schematic surface current chart introduced by Uda(1934) and Naganuma (1972); the northward flow along the Korean coast and the anticlockwise gyre in the northeastern part of the Japan Sea. Also the southward current flows along the Korean coast at depth of 100-200 m as similar to the North Korean Cold Current suggested by Kim and Kim (1983). And the sinking phenomenon of relatively saline water in the northeastern part of the Japan Sea is similar to the formation of the Japan Sea Proper Water.

      • Determination of Weighting Factor in the Inverse Model for Estimating Surface Velocity from AVHRR/SST Data

        The inverse method has been used to estimate a surface velocity field from sequential AVHRR/SST data. In the model, equation system was composed of heat equation and horizontal divergence minimization and the velocity field contained in the advective term of the heat equation, which was linearized in grid system, was estimated. A constraint was the minimization of horizontal divergence with weighting factor and introduced to compensate the null space(Menke, 1984) of the velocity solutions for the heat equation. The experiments were carried out to set up the range of weighting factor and the matrix equation was solved by SVD(Singular Value Decomposion). In the experiment, the scales of horizontal temperature gradient and divergence of synthetic velocity field were approximated to those of real field. The neglected diffusive effect and the horizontal variation of heat flux in the heat equation were regarded as random temperature errors. According to the result of experiments, the minimum of relative error was more desirable than the minimum of misfit as the criteria of setting up the weighting factor and the error of estimated velocity field became small when the weighting factor was order of $10^{-1}$

      • THE FLUCTUATION OF THE THERMAL FRONT IN THE SOUTHEASTERN AREA OFF KOREA

        The oceanographical condition of the southeastern area off Korea is inverestigated in the point of view of the fluctuation of the thermal front. although the fearure of the front is somewhat complicate, it can be classified intl three types. the first type is elongated toward north with the narrow cold water belt inside the front. The second type is almost parallel with the latitude of 36 N and the third type is the irregular one in which the cyclonic cold water mass and the anticyclonic warm water mass develop equally. The north-south directed fronts are strengthened either by the supply of the warm Daema Current (Tsushima Current in Japanese) of by the appearance of the cold North Korean Water along the coast. In the first type the thermocline inclines up toward the coast when the southward component of the wind is weakened. On the other hand, in the second typr the homogeneous and medium warm water spreads up to the coast and the latitude of 36 N, the second type front is formed.

      • Characteristics of Physical Properties in the Ulleung Basin

        A layer of salinity-minimum which characterizes the East Sea intermediate Water (ESIW) is found at an approximate depth of 200 m in three CTD section taken in the Ulleung Basin on May 17-21, 1988. Properties at this layer vary in ranges of $1.1^{\circ}C<T<2.7^{\circ}C{\;}and{\;}34.02{\textperthousand}<S<34.11{\textperthousand}$ except at stations near the east coast of Korea where temperature is as high as $4.39^{\circ}C$ and salinity is as low as $33.992{\textperthousand}$. To be distinguished from the ESIW the East Sea Proper Water (ESPW) may be characterized by temperature less than $1^{\circ}C$, Salinity at the saliently-minimum layer and 500db increases southward in general, implying that the cold waters, both ESIW and ESPW, formed in the northern basin of the East Sea are spreading southward below the permanent thermocline in the basin. Hydrography in the Ulleung Basin is very similar to that in the Alboran Sea, suggesting a possibility of an anticyclonic circulation in the Ulleung Basin which is controlled strongly by the shoaling bottom.

        해양에 대한 호기심과 친근감 향상을 위한 해양캠프 프로그램의 적용: 2004~2012년

        해양에 대한 관심과 친근감을 함양하기 위하여 해양캠프 '여름바다학교' 프로그램을 개발하여 2004년부터 2012년까지 9년 동안 4학년에서 9학년까지 초등 및 중등학교 학생들에게 적용하였다. 여름바다학교의 프로그램은 스노클링 해상 훈련과 인근 해양관련 연구소 및 박물관 견학활동, 해양 관련 각종 체험 학습, 해양 및 지구과학 관련 야외답사 활동, 그리고 해양에 관한 다양한 주제의 강연으로 구성되었다. 본 해양캠프에 참가한 학생들의 정의적 및 인지적 특성 변화 및 해양학적 소양 변화를 평가하기 위한 9가지의 설문지를 작성하여 실시하였다. 통계 분석 결과, 여름바다학교 시행 후 정도의 차이는 보이나 모든 학생들이 해양에 대한 흥미, 호기심, 열정 등 정의적 특성이 향상된 결과를 보였다. 13가지 소양 항목으로 분석한 해양에 관한 인지적 특성도 40%가 향상된 것으로 나타났다. 여름바다 학교에 대한 학부모들의 반응도 조사 분석하여 제시하였다. 초기에는 전공분야로서 해양에 대한 관심이 크지 않았던 몇몇 학생들이 수 년이 지난 후 앞으로의 전공 분야로 해양학을 선정한 사례도 발견되었다. 이는 해양캠프 활동이 해양 분야의 잠재적 과학영재의 지원 체계로서 성공적인 기능을 한 것으로 평가된다. 본 연구는 여름 해양캠프 활동의 장기 수행이 학생들의 과학에 대한 잠재적 능력이 즉각적으로 나타나지 않더라도 가까운 미래에 발현하게 할 수 있는 긍정적인 효과가 있음을 보였다. 이는 차세대 해양 인력 양성을 위해 과학 캠프와 같은 프로그램들이 좀 더 발전적으로 개발되고 수행될 수 있도록 정책적 지원이 필요함을 시사한다. In order to enhance scientific interest and a sense of affinity about ocean, the programs of the oceanic camp 'oceanic summer school' were developed and applied to $4^{th}$ and $9^{th}$-grade elementary and middle school students for 9 years from 2004 to 2012. It was composed of oceanic training for snorkeling, a tour to oceanic institutes and museums near the camp academy place, experimental learning in oceanic-related field, field trips for ocean and earth sciences, and lectures on various subjects of ocean. We developed and implemented 9-kinds of inquiry surveys to evaluate changes in cognitive and affective characteristics, and ocean literacy of students participated at the present oceanic summer camp. Based on the statistical analysis, affective characteristics such as interest, inquisitiveness, passion, and so on, were enhanced. Analysis of ocean literacy revealed that cognitive characteristics of the students were increased by 40%. We presented parents' responses on the programs of oceanic summer school. Some students with less initial interest of ocean have positively changed to make up their minds to be a oceanographer in several years later. In light of this, the summer school can be evaluated to be successfully functioned as a long-term support system for potentially young-talented students in the field of ocean science. This study addresses that long-term implementation of the summer oceanic camp may trigger students with potential talent toward in-depth science in the near future even though it could not bring positive effect immediately. This addresses the necessity of policy supports in order that various programs like the scientific camp should be more constructively developed and executed for next-generation manpower in oceanographic fields.

        준설공사시 발생하는 부유물질의 확산 및 단일오탁방지막의 효과분석

        The purpose of this study is to determine the distribution of the suspended matter caused by dredging at the northeastern part of Kwangyang Bay and to determine the effect of the single silt protector for it. According to the direction of the tidal current, six sampling stations were chosen from the dredging site to the southeast. At the high tide, the high concentration of the suspended matter was observed below the mid-depth near the dredging site. As the tidal currents were stronger, its concentrations below the mid-depth at the inner stations of the single silt protector were rapidly increased, but those of the outer stations did not show any significant change. The concentrations at the inner stations of the silt protector at that time were from 20~140 ㎎/ℓ and those of the outer stations, which was only about 30 m apart from the inner station, were from 20~30 ㎎/ℓ. It suggests that the large amount of suspended matter caused by dredging were moved to the inner stations near the silt protector at the ebb tide and that the silt protector is very effective for the suspended matter.

        해수면 온도분포에 대한 최대상관계수법과 역행렬법의 적용

        The surface velocities were estimated by the Maximum Cross Correlation(MCC) method and an inverse method from A VHRR/SST. In the results of MCC, discontinuous flow fields were estimated in the case that cross correlation coefficient was above 0.5 but these flow pattern disappeared when cross correlation coefficient was above 0.9. This estimation was conspicuous near SST patterns of eddies. In the results of inverse method, flow field was continuous and eddy motion was estimated definitely but the velocity was overestimated in compared with MCC result over the area of small temperature gradient. This result may be due to temperature error included in SST calculated and spatial variation of heat flux.

        AVHRR 자료를 이용한 지형류의 추정과 그 적용

        NOAA AVHRR의 MCSST를 이용하여 지형류의 상대속도를 추정하였으며 이것을 대한해협에 적용하였다. 원격탐사는 관측시에 광범위한 지역에 대해서 동시성 및 반복성이 유지되기 때문에 해양현상을 연구하는 데 있어서 훌륭한 도구로써 쓰일 수 있다. 특히 AVHRR 자료는 높은 분해능으로 인해서 선상관측 자료보다도 지형류를 더욱 정밀하게 구할 수 있다. 연구 결과에 의하면 1992년 4월에 대한해협 서수도에서의 상대속도는 골이 있는 해역에서 가장 크며 이 때 유속의 크기는 약 23.8cm/sec로 나타났다. 그러나 이 결과는 geopotential anomaly를 계산할 때 염분의 효과를 무시한 만큼의 오류를 포함하고 있다. 또한 대한해협 서수도에서 지형류의 수송량은 약 0.3Sv이며 쓰시마와 골이 있는 해역 사이에서 수송량이 가장 큰 것으로 나타났다. The relative geostrophic velocity is estimated by using the MCSST(Multi-Channel Sea Surface Temperature) from a NOAA/AVHRR image and applied to the Korea Strait. Remote sensing technique can playa useful role to research for oceanic phenomena because of its synoptic, simultaneous and repetitive viewing. The high resolution data of AVHRR can determine the geostrophic flow more precisely than the hydrographic data on shipboard. As a result of research, the relative geostrophic velocity in the western channel of the Korea Strait is the strongest in the trough area and its maximum speed is about 23.8 cm/sec in April, 1992. But this results include the error due to neglecting the effect of salinity in estimating the geopotential anomaly. The geostrophic volume transport through the western channel of the Korea Strait is the largest between trough area and the Tsushima Island.
