Human reliability attempts to make precise quantitative analyses and predictions of the performance of human-machine (or product) systems. In order to yield more precise human error analysis, precise human error probabilities(HEPs) must be used in the analysis. However, because human behavior is influenced by factors that are called performance shaping factors(PSFs), the effects of PSFs must be considered to obtain precise HEPs. These are called basic HEPs or situation-specific HEPs. This paper presents a theoretical method for obtaining basic HEPs (i.e., considering PSFs) in quantitative human error analysis. In this method, the weight which characterizes the degree of importance of several PSFs is obtained by the analytic hierarchy process. The quality scores of PSFs in the task situation are obtained by percentile concept. These scores are used in conjunction with the relative importance weights of PSFs to compute the composite quality percentile score of PSFs in the task situation. Then, a new mapping method of the composite quality percentile score of PSFs into a situation--specific basic HEP is proposed with a numerical example.

In this study, patient lift was surveyed and analyzed in aspects of its characteristics and the user was interviewed and analyzed too. It is important to evaluate whether it was effectively designed for its users or not, as opportunity using lift is high. User’s characteristics and design principles to design a mobile lift were proposed finally.

Senior citizens are often exposed to the danger of accidents and it is very important to design senior-friendly products to improve usability and safety. These days, the frequency in use of wheelchair is increasing with the increase of the elderly population. In this study, senior citizens’ design requirements for wheelchair were identified from the face-to-face interview and then the application case of QFD was presented considering the design requirements.
단기기억작업에서 정보부하와 유지시간의 영향에 관한 연구

In order to design man-machine system, communication system and other tasks that require information, we need to understand the characteristics of hyman short-term memory (STM). Thus, the purpose of this thesis is to investigate the influences of information stress and retention time on human performances and their relation- ships for STM of visual invormation. Eight subjects performed the computer monitering with STM task. The results showed that performance on serial recall from STM get wores and response time (and completion time) on information transmission by recall from STM increase as information stress and retention time increase. Also, there existed inverse proportional relationship between recall performance and response time (and completion time).

User's characteristics on the screen adjustment of color TV were studied. Two experiments were performed. In the first experiment, the characteristic of screen adjustment according to TV program, ambient luminance, and gender was investigated. Twenty subjects (10 females and 10 males) were participated in this experiment. Set points of brightness, contrast, tint, and color were measured on TV screen and analyzed. Brightness and contrast were significant on gender at significant level 0.01 and color was significant on gender at significant level 0.1. Tint was significant on program at significant level 0.01. The second experiment was performed to supplement the first experiment. The influences of ambient luminance, presented image, screen setting criteria, and gender were investigated. We simplified the first experiment in the second one. We restricted dependent variables (screen control variables) to only two, brightness and contrast. Other control variables were fixed to middle values. Brightness and contrast were significant on gender and screen setting criteria at significant level 0.01. In conclusion, we found that ambient luminance and presented image had no significant effects on TV screen adjustment and TV program had only a significant effect on tint. However, we found that gender and screen setting criteria had significant effects in most conditions.
분석계층과정을 이용한 디자인 대안의 평가방법에 관한 연구

The evaluation of design alternatives is one of the most important steps in design process. But, the evaluation problem of design has been relatively disregarded for other steps in design process. Generally, because design evaluation was sensitively performed by designer’s subjective viewpoint, goals and requirements of design were not systematically considered in evaluation process. So, method to systematically evaluate design alternatives was developed in this study. In this method, in order to effectively deal with the subjectivity of design evaluation, analytic hierarchy process(AHP) was used. AHP is one of multi-criteria decision making methods, and has been used in complex decision making problems, effectively. As an example, this method was applied to the sensible evaluation of cellular phone design. And, evaluation software of design alternatives was developed.
