        B 형 간염백신의 임상적 효과

        The immunogenecity and safety of pepsion and formalin inactivated hepatitis B vaccine, containing 20μg HBsAg, were studied in 46 subjects of healthy human volunteers during seven months after first injection. The volunteers received three doses of vaccine (Hepavax-B) at month 0.1 and 6. The anti HBs response to the vacine was seen in 13.0% after one month after the first injection, 34,8% after two months, 97.8% after 7 months. Side effects were negligible. On the basis of these findings, the immunogenecity and safety and safety of this vacoine seemed to be excellent.

        Decreased Growth and Antibiotic Production in Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) by Deletion of a Highly Conserved DeoR Family Regulator, SCO1463

        Streptomyces spp. have been isolated from different environmental niches and are known to exhibit diversity in secondary metabolism. They have complex regulation system to control secondary metabolism, however it is difficult to prioritize the importance of specific regulator among the thousands of global or cluster-situated genes that may regulate secondary metabolism in different Streptomyces strains. Here we suggest a simple homologybased selection method to find out important regulators by comparing seven Streptomyces strains finding highly homologous regulators in various Streptomyces strains and showed highly homologous 11 regulators containing four well known regulators such as BldM, IclR, WhiD and NdgR. Among various regulators, we showed a putative transcriptional regulator in Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2), SCO1463 playing a pivotal role in growth, antibiotic production (actinorhodin[ACT] and undecylprodigiosin [RED] production), and production/utilization of organic acids such as propionate and succinate by making comparisons between the deletion mutant and the wild type strain. Although high homology in various strains does not always mean the importance of a gene, we suggested a criterion on which regulator should be studied first and which would be more important among more than one thousand regulators.

        와권형 정삼투 막모듈의 성능 분석

        Performance of a spiral wound forward osmosis (FO) membrane module was analyzed to provide basic knowledge to design real-scale FO system. The module used in this work is FO8040 manufactured by Toray Chemical Korea, Inc. The water flux of the module is smaller than that of a coupon made from the same material, which is not only because of diluted draw solution (DS) and concentrated feed solution (FS), but also because of a structural characteristics of the module. Pressure drops along both FS and DS channels occur in the module and they increase at higher channel flow velocity values. Thus, FS and DS supply pump should be designed to overcome these pressure drops. Since the patterns of pressure drops along FS and DS channels are different, it is inevitable to have trans-membrane pressure (TMP; the difference between FS and DS pressures) inside the module. Fortunately, the positive TMP enhances water flux of the spiral wound module with a considerable amount (e.g., > 10 l/m2 h with TMP of 1-2 bars), which recommends the FO system designers to set a positive TMP when spiral wound FO modules are used for their systems 본 연구를 통해 와권형 정삼투 막모듈의 성능을 분석하여 실규모 정삼투 시스템을 설계하기 위한 기본 지식을 제공하고자 한다. 연구에 사용된 모듈은 Toray Chemical Korea, Inc.의 FO8040 모델이다. 막 모듈의 여과 플럭스는 동일한 막 재질로 만들어진 쿠폰보다 작은데, 이는 막 모듈 내 유도용액 희석/원수 농축 효과뿐 아니라 모듈의 구조적 특성 때문으로 추정된다. 원수와 유도용액 유로에는 수두손실이 발생하는 데, 이는 유속이 증가할수록 커진다. 따라서, 공급 펌프는 이러한 수두손실을 극복하도록 설계되어야 한다. 원수 및 유도용액의 수두 손실 패턴이 다르므로 모듈 내부의 막간차압(원수와 유도용액의 압력 차)은 필연적으로 발생한다. 긍정적인 면은, 막간차압이 와권형 막 모듈의 여과 플럭스를 상당한 정도(TMP 1-2 bar 범위 시 10 l/m2 h 이상)으로 향상시킨다는 점이다. 그러므로, 와권형 정삼투 막 모듈이 실규모 시스템에 반영될 때는 적정범위의 막간 차압을 고려하여 설계하는 것이 유리하다.

        Use of reading aloud method in a formal college-level English reading classroom

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the possibility of the use of reading aloud as a way of teaching English reading in a formal college-level English reading classroom. The study tried to examine the effects of reading aloud on the development of English reading ability in terms of comprehension and speed and the students’ perceptions of the use of reading aloud in an English reading classroom. The participants of the study were 36 third year students at a college. The results of the cloze test and reading speed test showed that reading aloud had a positive effect on the improvement of English reading ability. The students received higher scores in the cloze test after the course and read a text faster than before the course. The analysis of the course evaluation questionnaire indicated that the students in the study showed positive attitudes toward the use of reading aloud in an English reading classroom. Most of the students reported that reading aloud was an effective way of improving their English reading comprehension and speed. However, the students were not fully satisfied with the reading materials used in the study. The results of the present study indicated that reading aloud may be incorporated into a formal English reading classroom effectively.

        하수재이용 및 해수담수화를 위한 정삼투-역삼투 융합공정의 탄소배출량 분석

        A conventional seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) and a forward osmosis (FO) and reverse osmosis (RO) hybrid process to produce1,000 m3/d of fresh water, were designed and compared in terms of carbon emission. When FO was adapted for the osmotic dilution,the required pressure for RO decreases, and thus energy consumption decreases. The decrease in carbon emission by decreased energy consumption (up to -0.73 kgCO2/m3 using coal as the energy source) was compared with the increase in carbon emission by the FOsystem (+0.16 kgCO2/m3), which is a function of various factors such as the number of FO modules and energy consumption. The comparison revealed that the FO-RO process causes less carbon emission compared with the SWRO process when the energy sources are coal and oil. However, if energy sources with low carbon emission such as solar, wind, and nuclear energy are selected, the carbon emission of the FO-RO process becomes higher than that of the SWRO process. This implies that the type of energy source is a key factor to determine the necessity of the FO-RO process from the aspect of carbon emission. 본 연구에서는 하수재이용과 해수담수화를 동시에 진행할 수 있는 규모 1,000 m3/d의 FO-RO 융합공정과 동일한 규모의 기존 SWRO 공정의 탄소배출량을 계산하여 비교 분석하였다. FO-RO 융합공정은 FO 공정을 도입하여 RO 공정 원수를 희석시킬 수 있기 때문에 RO 공정의 요구 압력이 감소되고 이는 곧 에너지소비량 감소로 이어진다. 에너지소비량에 따른 탄소배출량은 FO-RO 융합공정이 SWRO 공정보다 -0.73kgCO2(coal로 전력생산 시) 낮으며, FO 공정 추가 건설로 인해 발생되는 탄소배출량은 +0.16 kgCO2로 계산되어 FO-RO 융합공정의 총 탄소 배출량이 더 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 하지만, Coal나 oil과 같은 화석연료로 전력을 생산하지 않고, 전력생산 시 탄소배출량이 적은 nuclear나 solar 등으로 사용하면 FO-RO 융합공정의 총 탄소배출량이 SWRO 공정보다 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 탄소배출량 관점에서는 전력생산시 필요 재료(예: coal, oil, nuclear, solar 등)에 따라 친환경적인 공정 판단 여부가 결정되므로 FO-RO 융합공정 도입 필요성을 좌우하는 핵심요소라고 할 수 있다.

        Extensive Reading in a Formal English Reading Class

        This paper examines the feasibility of an extensive reading approach as a way of teaching English reading into a formal English reading course. To this end, the study selected one of the eight English reading classes in the Korea Air Force Academy (KAFA) and tried to examine the students’ reading behaviors and their perceptions of extensive reading. The impacts of extensive reading on the development of English reading ability were also examined. The results of the students’ reading behaviors showed that they read a great deal of English books inside and outside the classroom. The analysis of the students’ perceptions indicated that their interests and confidence in reading English books increased to some extent. Their perceptions of the graded readers were also positive. Most of the students were willing to read more English books after the course. However, they mentioned a need for revision in the evaluation method. The results of three reading tests revealed that their reading abilities in English improved. The results of the present study indicate that an extensive reading approach could be incorporated into a formal college-level English reading course effectively.
