The objective of this study was to investigate worth of Labiatae herb plants for biomedicinal materials and functional foods. It was focused on antioxidant, anticancer and tyrosinase inhibition activities of 12 species herb methanol extracts. Various herb extracts of total polyphenol, flavonoid contents showed that leaves of lemon balm the highest total polyphenol contents and whole of rosemary revealed the highest total flavonoid contents. Methanolic extracts of 11 accessions among them showed in the 40~60 μg/ml antioxidant activities. Especially, whole of rosemary(21.79±0.68 μg/ml) extract showed highest activity. In cytotoxicity test against three cancer cell lines, SK-Hep-1(liver), HeLa(uterus) and YD-15(oral), the whole of sage showed the highest toxicity with IC50 values of 79.32~165.54 μg/ml. Also, whole(56.23±0.21 μg/ml) and root(63.36±0.69 μg/ml) of sage extracts showed similar with arbutin used in control of the tyrosinase inhibitory experiment.

The present study was conducted to estimate the antioxidant and tyrosianse inhibition activities in different species of Apiaceae family. Total fifteen two species of Apiaceae family were used as experimental material and a great variation amid species for antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibition activities was noted. Methanol extracts of Bupleurum falcatum L. and Torilis japonica D. C. exhibited higher total polyphenol and total flavonoid contents, respectively while Foeniculum vulgare Gaeriner exhibited higher antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibition activities. Nonetheless, species under study exhibited a strong negative correlation between antioxidant activities and total polyphenol and negative correlation between antioxidant activities and total flavonoid contents; whereas non-significant correlation between tyrosinase inhibition activities and total polyphenol and flavonoid contents were noted. Species under study also exhibited a strong positive correlation between total polyphenol and total flavonoid contents whereas non-significant correlation between antioxidant activities and tyrosinase inhibition activities. In conclusion, Foeniculum vulgare was found better due to its higher antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibition activities.

The present study was conducted to estimate the antioxidant activities, physicochemical properties and biological activities in Beauveria bassiana. Glucose was the most abundant in B. bassiana (15.2 g?L?1) of 3 day medium by the HPLC analysis of free sugar. Citric acid were observed the highest components in B. bassiana (276.4 mg?L?1) of 3 day medium by the HPLC analysis of organic acid. The composition of Glutamate was the highest among amino acids in B. bassiana (987.0 pmol?μl?1) of 3 day medium. Na was the highest among minerals. It was focused on antioxidant and anticancer activities of B. bassiana. The highest contents of total polyphenol (6.51 ± 0.04 ppm) and flavonoid (1.10 ± 0.06 ppm) were detected in the B. bassiana of 15 day medium. The IC50 value of DPPH radical scavenging activity was ranged from 263.4 ± 13.3 to 461.9 ± 23.9 μg?ml?1 SOD activity was ranged from 93.7 ± 16.6 to 99.8 ± 3.8 μg?ml?1. Also ABTS radical activity was ranged from 99.7 ± 1.2 to 156.9 ± 2.9 μg?ml?1 of which the strongest activity was determined of 15 day medium. Especially, 93.7 ± 16.6 μg?ml?1 of 15 day medium showed highest activity by SOD. In cytotoxicity test against three cancer cell lines, HepG2 (liver), MCF-7 (breast) and A549 (lung), showed the highest toxicity with IC50 values of HepG2 (127.8 ± 2.3 μg?ml?1) cell lines of 10 day medium. Also MCF-7 (129.1 ± 6.8 μg?ml?1), A549 (163.8 ± 4.1 μg?ml?1) showed the highest toxicity of 5 day medium. These data suggest Enthomopathogenic of B. bassiana culture medium could be potential candidate for natural antioxidants.

Abstract The present study was conducted to evaluate of the 1,1-Diphenyl-2-Picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging effect, cytotoxicity and tyrosinase inhibition activities using methanol extracts from different parts of four herb plants. The results showed that whole and root extracts of yarrow the highest total polyphenol and flavonoid contents as well as whole of yarrow revealed the highest DPPH radical scavenging effect. In cytotoxicity test against three cancer cell lines, HeLa (uterus), SK-Hep-1 (liver), and YD-15 (oral), the whole extract of feverfew showed the highest toxicity with IC50 values of 102.58-138.68 μg/mL. Also, mallow root extract (71.24 μg/mL) exhibited potent tyrosinase inhibitory activity comparable to arbutin (69.56 μg/mL), which was used as the control.
