It is ‘One Soldier’ that one of Tayama Katai`` short story was written by the position of the observer based on the author``s own experiencewho participated as a war correspondent in the Russo-Japanese War. He not only faithfully reproduced the story of soldiers going to die of beriberi in this work, but also depicted realistically the horrors behind the Russo-Japanese War. Objective description he tried to is also one of the main features of this work, there is a significant association between his masterpieces such as "The Quilt" and "Rural Teacher". But when viewed in historical research, so far this work has a tendency not received significant attention. In this paper, I investigated by focusing on the following points. First, as clues to sense of expression are often found in ‘One soldier’, I will consider how the inner psychology of the character is depicted. Through this, I will define how the eye of a writer seeing things objectively from a spectator standpoint, is reflected in his work, but also what a tragic end that the hero died of illness in an extreme situation like war means. In addition, I will examine how ``embodiement`` of a soldier died of illness is dealt with, further clarify the paradigm of war and nationalism appeared in that work. In conclusion, this study is to refocus on the literary status of the ‘One soldier ’.
