        Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma: a novel therapeutic target for cognitive impairment and mood disorders that functions via the regulation of adult neurogenesis

        The proliferation, diff erentiation, and migrationof neural precursor cells occur not only during embryonicdevelopment but also within distinct regions of the adultbrain through the process of adult neurogenesis. As neurogenesiscan potentially regulate brain cognition and neuronalplasticity, the factors that enhance neurogenesis canbe attractive therapeutic targets for improving cognitivefunction and regulating neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatricdisorders, including aff ective and mood disorders. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) area class of ligand-activated transcription factors belongingto the nuclear receptor superfamily. PPARγ is a target forinsulin sensitizers and plays an essential role in regulatingvarious metabolic processes, including adipogenesis andglucose homeostasis. Interestingly, evidence demonstratesthe role of PPARγ activation in regulating neurogenesis. Thepharmacological activation of PPARγ using specifi c ligandsincreases the proliferation and diff erentiation of neural stemcells in specifi c brain regions, including the hippocampus,and prevents neurodegeneration and improves cognitionand anxiety/depression-like behaviors in animal models. We summarize here recent reports on the role of PPARγin adult neurogenesis, as well as the mechanisms involved,and suggest that PPARγ can serve as a potential therapeutictarget for neurological and/or neurodegenerative diseases.

        혼합공정의 용매가 (Na,K)NbO<sub>3</sub> 압전체의 미세구조 및 전기적 특성에 미치는 영향

        $(Na,K)NbO_3$-based piezoelectric ceramics were synthesized by a solid phase sintering method with various milling solvents. The solvents were varied with acetone, ethanol, and pure water to investigate the effect on the microstructure and electrical properties. NKN ceramics showed the maximum values of the relative density (94%), the mechanical quality factor (Qm: 78) and the electro-mechanical coupling factor ($k_p$: 0.25) at the ethanol solvent. It might mean that a solid phase sintering of the NKN piezoelectrics with a suitable solvent could improve the relative density and the piezoelectric properties.

        반응중심 문학 토의학습에서 나타난 아동의 문학능력 분석

        본 연구는 반응중심 문학 토의학습을 초등 국어에 적용하여, 초등 국어과에서의 반응중심 문학 토의학습 활동에서 나타난 아동들의 문학 능력을 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 초등학교 2학년 아동들에게 제 7차 교육과정에서 제시된 국어과의 반응중심 문학 수업모형을 기초로 2학년의 발달단계에 맞게 토의를 중심으로 구체화˙명료화 시킨 반응중심 문학 토의 학습 활동을 적용해보았다. 연구결과, 반응중심 문학 토의학습 활동 전후로 사전˙사후 검사결과가 통계적으로도 유의미한 차이를 보였고, 구체적인 분석내용을 통해서도 반응중심 문학 토의 학습 활동을 통해 아동의 문학능력인 수용력과 평가력, 창작력에서 전반적으로 긍정적인 변화들이 나타났다. 초등 국어과 교육에 반응중심 문학 토의학습 활동을 활용함으로써 문학능력이 향상되었다는 통계적 연구결과와 아동들 개개인의 사전˙사후 변화와 토론 활동과정 등을 통해 긍정적인 변화들을 볼 때, 앞으로의 초등학교 국어과의 문학교육은 학습자의 반응을 존중하는 반응중심 문학 토의학습을 적절하게 사용하기를 제언했다. The purpose of this study was to apply the response-centered discussion strategies to a 2nd grade literature class of an elementary school and to analyze effects of the rresponse centered discussion strategies, in terms of children's literature abilities, such as, literature acceptance, evaluation, and creativity abilities. For this purpose, one group case study was implemented for 8 weeks and pre and post paired tests were compared using SPSS/WIN 10.0 statistical software package. The research questions study were as follows: 1. How had changed in children's literature acceptance abilities in the literature class when the response-centered discussion strategies were applied? 2. How had changed in children's literature evaluation abilities in the literature class when the response-centered discussion strategies were applied? 3. How had changed in children's literature creativity abilities in the literature class when the response-centered discussion strategies were applied? 4. How had changed in children's literature abilities in the literature class process of the response-centered discussion strategies were applied? The results of the study were as follows: There were much changes in children's literature acceptance, evaluation and creativity abilities with the use of the response-centered discussion strategies in the literature class of the elementary school, it had showed much improvements accepted. The implication of the study was that positive changes were found in children's literature acceptance abilities, literature evaluation abilities and literature creativity abilities, In conclusion, it was recommended to apply the response -centered discussion strategies in the literature class of the elementary school. The further researches are also needed to improve the ineffective parts of this study.

        혼합공정의 용매가 (Na,K)NbO3 압전체의 미세구조 및 전기적 특성에 미치는 영향

(Na,K)NbO3계 압전체를 일반적인 고상소결법으로 제작하였다. 고상소결법으로 제작하기 위해서는 용매를 이용한 혼합공정이 필수적인데, 이 혼합공정에 사용하는 용매를 에탄올, 아세톤 및 증류수로 변화시켜 시편을 제작하였다. 제작된 시편의 미세구조 및 전기적 특성을 평가하여, 혼합공정에서 사용하는 용매가 전기적 특성 및 미세구조에 미치는 영향을 평가하였다. NKN 압전체의 미세구조 및 전기적 특성을 평가한 결과, 에탄올을 용매로 사용한 경우에서 가장 우수한 결과를 보였다. 이때의 밀도는 약 94%였고, 기계적 품질계수(Qm) 및 전기기계결합계수(Kp) 값은 각각 78 및 0.25로 평가되었다. 이러한 결과로부터, 혼합공정에서 적용하는 용매가 시편의 전기적 특성 및 미세구조에 많은 영향을 미치는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 특히, 증류수를 이용한 경우에서도 전기적 특성이 평가되는 것은 특이한 점으로 평가된다.

        Rare Form of Schwannoma as a Purely Hemorrhagic Cystic Tumor Located in an Intermuscular Plane

        Schwannomas are mostly solid tumors, some of which may contain cystic degenerations or hemorrhages. However, a schwannoma seen as a purely hemorrhagic cystic tumor is very rare. A 63-year-old woman was referred to the hospital due to a slow-growing mass (present for about 5 years) on her right thigh. She complained about vague pain but without neurologic symptoms such as numbness or tingling sensations. MR images showed an oval lesion with defined margins surrounded by the rectus femoris, vastus lateral, and the vastus intermedius. It was characterized as a multilocular cystic lesion composed of hemorrhagic fluid. In addition, the benign hemorrhagic cystic lesion was differentially diagnosed by radiological techniques as a hemorrhagic ganglion cyst. The lesion was surgically excised and, based on pathological features, was diagnosed as being a schwannoma. We report a purely hemorrhagic cystic schwannoma located in an intermuscular plane.

      • 모바일 알림장을 활용한 교사와 부모의 의미 탐구

        본 연구의 목적은 모바일 알림장의 활용이 교사와 부모로서 갖는 의미는 무엇인지 면담을 통해 탐구하였다. 연구 참여자는 모바일 알림장을 사용하는 대전, 세종 지역 어린이집과 유치원의 교사와 부모 각 3명으로 구 성되었다. 자료 수집은 면담과 전화 상담, E-mail, 메신저의 내용 분석으로 이루어졌다. 연구 결과로 교사의 모바일 알림장의 이용은 기관에서 전반적인 교육활동, 영유아 활동사진, 공지 등을 관리하고 부모는 주로 교 사에게 영유아에 대한 전달사항을 공지한다. 이에 따른 연구 참여자 교사는 모바일 알림장의 사용이 익숙할 수록 업무의 효율성이 나타나는 반면, 그렇지 않을 경우 또 하나의 업무 증가로 부담감을 느끼는 차이를 보 였다. 또한 부모의 참여보다는 교사의 참여가 더 적극적으로 활용되었고, 부모의 만족도가 높아 모바일 알림 장이 적극 활용되었으면 하는 면과 모바일 알림장의 불만을 토로하는 차이가 있었다. 앞으로 모바일 알림장 의 사용에서 오는 논의와 방향 제시가 필요할 것이다. The purpose of this study, teachers and parents through interviews what it is through mobile class note meaning of research. Research, participants in Daejeon, Sejong Nursery and kindergarten teachers and parents of mobile class note using each consisting of three teachers and parents. Data were collected by interview and telephone, E-mail, instant messaging content analysis. The teaching as a result of mobile class note institutions in general education motion pictures, mostly parents while managing such as notices the motion picture, Air-ground communications, about the infant to teachers. Another teacher participants seemed to feel the difference in the burden of work increases when one more familiar, while the use of mobile class note the effectiveness of the work appear, it is not. There was also a difference complained of cotton and mobile class note, which was the participation of teachers in participating more actively than the parents, if the parents increases the satisfaction of mobile class note actively utilized. The present discussion will be needed in the future and the direction that comes from the use of mobile class note.

        4-Methoxychalcone Enhances Cisplatin-Induced Oxidative Stress and Cytotoxicity by Inhibiting the Nrf2/ARE-Mediated Defense Mechanism in A549 Lung Cancer Cells

        Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is a key transcriptional regulator for the protection of cells against oxidative and xenobiotic stresses. Recent studies have demonstrated that high constitutive expression of Nrf2 is observed in many types of cancer cells showing resistan-ce to anti-cancer drugs, suggesting that the suppression of overexpressed Nrf2 could be an attractive therapeutic strategy to overcome cancer drug resistance. In the pre-sent study, we aimed to find small molecule compounds that enhance the sensitivity of tumor cells to cisplatin induced cytotoxicity by suppressing Nrf2-mediated defense mechanism. A549 lung cancer cells were shown to be more resistant to the anti-cancer drug cisplatin than HEK293 cells, with higher Nrf2 signaling activity; consti-tutively high amounts of Nrf2-downstream target proteins were observed in A549 cells. Among the three chalcone derivatives 4-methoxy-chalcone (4-MC), hesperidin methyl-chalcone, and neohesperidin dihydrochalcone, 4-MC was found to suppress transcriptional activity of Nrf2 in A549 cells but to activate it in HEK293 cells. 4-MC was also shown to down-regulate expression of Nrf2 and the down-stream phase II detoxifying enzyme NQO1 in A549 cells. The PI3K/Akt pathway was found to be involved in the 4-MC-induced inhibition of Nrf2/ARE activity in A549 cells. This inhibition of Nrf2 signaling results in the accelerated generation of reactive oxygen species and exacerbation of cytotoxicity in cisplatin-treated A549 cells. Taken together, these results suggest that the small molecule compound 4-MC could be used to enhance the sensitivity of tumor cells to the therapeutic effect of cisplatin through the regu-lation of Nrf2/ARE signaling.
