        Abnormal Astrocytosis in the Basal Ganglia Pathway of Git1−/− Mice

        Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders, affecting approximately 5% of children. However, the neural mechanisms underlying its development and treatment are yet to be elucidated. In this study, we report that an ADHD mouse model, which harbors a deletion in the Git1 locus, exhibits severe astrocytosis in the globus pallidus (GP) and thalamic reticular nucleus (TRN), which send modulatory GABAergic inputs to the thalamus. A moderate level of astrocytosis was displayed in other regions of the basal ganglia pathway, including the ventrobasal thalamus and cortex, but not in other brain regions, such as the caudate putamen, basolateral amygdala, and hippocampal CA1. This basal ganglia circuit-selective astrocytosis was detected in both in adult (2-3 months old) and juvenile (4 weeks old) Git1−/− mice, suggesting a developmental origin. Astrocytes play an active role in the developing synaptic circuit; therefore, we performed an immunohistochemical analysis of synaptic markers. We detected increased and decreased levels of GABA and parvalbumin (PV), respectively, in the GP. This suggests that astrocytosis may alter synaptic transmission in the basal ganglia. Intriguingly, increased GABA expression colocalized with the astrocyte marker, GFAP, indicative of an astrocytic origin. Collectively, these results suggest that defects in basal ganglia circuitry, leading to impaired inhibitory modulation of the thalamus, are neural correlates for the ADHD-associated behavioral manifestations in Git1−/− mice.

        Information Status and Prosodic Prominence as Perceived by Korean Learners of English

        This study investigates the relationship between information status and prosodic prominence perceived by Korean learners of the English language, compared to English native speakers, in a complete public speech. Both groups of speakers were asked to mark words that they perceived as being prominent, while listening to a speech in real time. The information status of a word was annotated as a function of referential and lexical information, as well as focus. The results show that Korean native speakers perceive prosodic prominence in a similar manner to that of English native speakers. Both groups are more likely to perceive prominence for new or focused words than for given or non-focused words. The two groups, however, differ in that Korean native speakers tend to more frequently perceive prominence for words carrying lexical information than English native speakers. This bias seems to be influenced by parts-of-speech, in alignment with the findings of previous studies.

        Atypical Character Recognition Based on Mask R-CNN for Hangul Signboard

        This study proposes a method of learning and recognizing the characteristics that are the classification criteria of Hangul using Mask R-CNN, one of the deep learning techniques, to recognize and classify atypical Hangul characters. The atypical characters on the Hangul signboard have a lot of deformed and colorful shapes beyond the general characters. Therefore, in order to recognize the Hangul signboard character, it is necessary to learn a separate atypical Hangul character rather than the existing formulaic one. We selected the Hangul character ‘닭’ as sample data and constructed 5,383 Hangul image data sets and used them for learning and verifying the deep learning model. The accuracy of the results of analyzing the performance of the learning model using the test set constructed to verify the reliability of the learning model was about 92.65% (the area detection rate). Therefore we confirmed that the proposed method is very useful for Hangul signboard character recognition, and we plan to extend it to various Hangul data.

        The purpose of this research is to investigate the beauty of form in Zandra Rhodes' works by means of design elements. The result were as followings <1> As for Silhouette or form, The form was non-constructive, and flexible style The styles were almostly open, whole to part, planar integration, rounded and, indetermination. According to method of wearing, many formal variations were created. <2> As for Line, Curved lines- zigzag, tasslled, circle, wiggle, etc. -were mainly used. <3> As for Color, Revolutionary and Conspicuous color-contrast was expressed in her works. She used the natural and flourishing color. <4> As for Fabric, Silk and chiffon were mainly used. some were organza, jerge, quilted silk, felt, and fox leather. <5> As for Fabric patterns, Especially, Her fabric patterns were very creative. They were her own particular handwritting. wiggiy undulating lines, strange flowers, rock landscapes, cowboy arrows, cactus, and lily motifs were used. natural subject matters were used mainly. <6> As for Details, Many techniques for details were used, and empirical and creative spirit was expressed through these details. Developments and advancements in fiber and fabric manufacturing provide designers with new design which would not exit. On this context, review of the Zandra Rhodes' works will be helpful to prospect new idea and orientation in contemprary fashion.

        유럽의 웨딩플라워에 대한 역사적 고찰

        Flower design has been developed into various way through the ages. Particularly it has been greatly influenced by fashion, social background and so on. According to ancient description, people used flowers far the purpose of medical care or religious things first time and gradually people used flowers as a fragrance and a decoration for women's costumes. There were corsages, headdress, trimming of dresses and various ways to use flowers. And then these things were getting biger and more elaborate, women started to carry bunches of flowers on the wedding scenes which was one of the happiest moment in a life.

        Realization of a Motion-based Interactive System Using Extraction of Real-time Search Terms

For this purpose, real-time search terms and related news information were extracted from three domestic and foreign portal sites, and the extracted information was used to generate content for interaction with the user. For interaction between the generated content and the user, a motion-based interactive technology that optimizes the intentions and experiences of the user was developed.         Interactive Typography System using Combined Corner and Contour Detection

        Interactive Typography is a process where a user communicates by interacting with text and a moving factor. This research covers interactive typography using real-time response to a user’s gesture. In order to form a language-independent system, preprocessing of entered text data presents image data. This preprocessing is followed by recognizing the image data and the setting interaction points. This is done using computer vision technology such as the Harris corner detector and contour detection. User interaction is achieved using skeleton information tracked by a depth camera. By synchronizing the user’s skeleton information acquired by Kinect (a depth camera,) and the typography components (interaction points), all user gestures are linked with the typography in real time. An experiment was conducted, in both English and Korean, where users showed an 81% satisfaction level using an interactive typography system where text components showed discrete movements in accordance with the users’ gestures. Through this experiment, it was possible to ascertain that sensibility varied depending on the size and the speed of the text and interactive alteration. The results show that interactive typography can potentially be an accurate communication tool, and not merely a uniform text transmission system.

        Design of Kinetic Typography Interaction based on the Structural Characteristics of Hangul

        Kinetic typography is technology such as color, scale, position of the letter changes dynamically with time and it communicates information with aesthetics and originality. The purpose of this study is to identify the design factors in the formativeness of Hangul and present and implement the interaction design method of unique Hangul kinetic typography based on the scientific structure of Hangul. We implemented the Hangul kinetic typography system, which varies in sizes and motion directions according to a viewer’s movement and exhibited in a media art event. To do this, we used a viewer’s skeleton information on typography synchronization. The results indicated that Hangul kinetic typography has potential not only as a means to communicate with viewers but also as a medium to show the artistic value of Hangul.

        CALLA 접근법을 적용한 초등영어 언어-내용 통합교육 연구

        This study aims to investigate the feasibility of implementing language-content integrated teaching through the application of Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach(CALLA). It is also based on content-based instruction in which language and academic content are integrated in a meaningful context. This study also examined whether the language-content integrated teaching using CALLA approach influences students' reading ability as well as the understanding of content knowledge of subject areas. Data for both quantitative and qualitative analysis were collected from students' journals, the teacher's field notes, interviews as well as test results. This study revealed that students can develop content knowledge as they develop language skills. Major findings are: (1) there was a significant improvement in their reading abilities and their content knowledge; (2) there was a difference between the two learners in their strategy use. Suggestions and based on the findings are discussed
