This study examined the effects of safety-aisle on the safety climate, safety leadership, safety behavior, work loading and perceived accident risk in the small sawmilling industry. We distributed a questionnaire that measured various demographic variables, safety related variables by mail to 200 sawmilling companies. Finally 59 managers’ and 129 workers’ questionnaires were used for data analysis. An independent t-test was conducted to identify significant mean differences of safety related variables between safety-aisle installed and non-installed companies. Results indicated that mean differences of safety climate and safety behavior between safety-aisle installed and non-installed companies were significant. However, mean differences of safety leadership, work loading and perceived risk were not significant at the p < .05 level. Based on these results, the implications of this study and suggestions for future research were discussed.

Some of industrial machinery such as machine tools, food processing machine have been included for the mandatory safety certification so that the intrinsic safety be secured from design and manufacturing stage since March, 2013. However, there may be many difficulties in settlement of the safety certification for some industrial machinery because the manufacturers have poor infrastructure that do not have much information or expert on safety design and production. The objects of this research are to assist the early settlement of legally safety certification system by proposing supporting measure through survey of purchaser`s safety awareness and actual circumstance on safety design of industrial machinery and to suggest way to extend the scope of safety design and production to all of the industrial machinery. Main finding is that 62.4% of respondent agreed to make the education on safety design and production compulsory, 69.8% answered that 1 or 2 times of education per year are appropriate. The result demonstrates major necessity to find out the plan in order for promoting safety design and production expert such as obligatory education for the design-related worker on industrial machinery. In relation with this, it is also necessary to relieve the burden of production cost increase for manufacturer and encourage purchasing of safety machines for consumer by funding assistance. Ultimately, the policy on securing safety of industrial machinery can result in improvement of national competitiveness.
제조업에서 지게차에 대한 안전보건 기준에 관한 규칙 개정 방안

A forklift truck, commonly used for transporting heavy materials in manufacturing industries, etc., is a useful machine. However accidents occur frequently during the operation of the machine. In order to prevent accidents it is necessary to examine the current safety regulations on a forklift truck. Because the regulations have not revised for a long time, they do not reflect the rapidly changing environment of industries. Proposed revision of standard on articles for forklift trucks was presented after analysing the causes of occurred injuries, comparing domestic standards with international standards and examining the survey results. We analyzed the safety regulation articles and the injuries according to the type of work conducted with forklift. The major differences in safety regulations between Korea and the major foreign countries were investigated. The opinions of field workers on the safety regulations were surveyed using e-mail or interview. As a result, it was found that preventing workers from contacting with the forklift is very important. To prevent accident due to movement of a stopped forklift, actions are necessary to prevent slip of a forklift. Also supervision is required to make workers fasten safety belt and to prohibit workers from using a forklift for undesignated purpose.
