Objective : The Hoarding Rating Scale-Self-Report (HRS-SR) is a five-item scale that simply assesses the hoarding symptoms. We evaluated the factor structure, reliability, and validity of the Korean version of the HRS-SR (HRS-SR-K). Methods : A total of 144 individuals completed the self-administered questionnaires including HRS-SR-K, Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Revised-Korean version (OCI-R-K), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Psychometric properties of the HRS-SR-K were analyzed. Results : The Cronbach's α value for internal consistency of the HRS-SR-K was excellent (Cronbach's α=0.84). The construct validity was analyzed on the basis of principal component analysis and one-factor structure of the original scale was maintained. The HRS-SR-K total score and each item scores were more strongly correlated with the hoarding subscale score in OCI-R-K (convergent validity, r=0.71, p<0.01) than the corresponding scores of nonspecific depression or anxiety measures (discriminant validity). Conclusion : The HRS-SR-K is a simple and reliable self-report scale for examining the severity of hoarding symptoms.
Vol.0 No.132
The history in the sense of historiography is constructed not only by writing, but editing as well. Editorial work was by no means neutral and objective in the production of printed books in the early modern era, and this is well-attested in the editions of Memoires of Olivier de La Marche. This study examines how a medieval historical text was (re-)interpreted in the process of editing and annotating during the early modern period. The Memoires of Olivier de La Marche show how a historical text has been politically interpreted and appropriated by modern editors through the process of inserting paratextual apparatus, such as chapter headings, notes, and editor`s prefaces, in accordance with the historical contexts of the time. Particularly, the second edition by Jean Lautens represents the historical perspective of the Flemish people who, in the midst of the Reformation, were constructing a new political identity by rejecting both the French and Habsburg forces. Lautens strongly criticizes the first edition of Denis Sauvage, a French royal historiographer. Even though Sauvage does not express his own political views explicitly, Lautens captures his political view as biased, as implied in paratexts. To sum up, editors of historical texts in the early modern era revealed and even argued their political and historical views on page, visually and materially, through the medium of paratexts and editorial works.

In Renaissance Europe, editors have emerged along with the development of commercial printed book market. The editors were mainly humanists who examined and made corrections on Greek and Latin texts, as well as scientific texts. Unlike the editors of classical texts, most editors of the French books worked in the publishing industry anonymously. It was only from the mid-16th century that the French books began to print the names of editors on their title pages and even went on to present their editorial works in detail, ultimately alluding to the elevation of the stature of the French texts’ editors. The 16th-century editions of the Mémoires of Philippe de Commynes, including those of Denis Sauvage well exemplifies this change. The case of Sauvage also presents the editing method of medieval history books by a Renaissance French editor. He not only arranged the text for printing, but also divided it into chapters and sections by titling each chapter, and at the same time summarized the contents. Furthermore, he annotated the text in order to add suggesting comments, occasionally pointing out and correcting errors committed by the author. In fact, his editorial works in pursuit of the original manuscript source seems to have been influenced not by the Protestant belief, but by the classical humanist tradition.

Vol.0 No.33
This article analyzes the portrayal of Julius Caesar as an emperor in textual transmissions during the Middle Ages. Since the era of the Roman Empire, there have been two conflicting opinions on who should be regarded as the first true Roman emperor: Julius Caesar or Augustus. In the 4th century, Eusebius of Caesarea presented both opinions in his various works. The medieval tradition typically follows the affirmation in Eusebius` piece Chronicon which presents Julius Caesar as the primus imperator of the Roman Empire. As a result, medieval men read and modified previous works to reflect their belief in Juius Caesar having been the first Roman emperor. This is seen in the adaptation of a piece in Epitome de Caesaribus, which is an adaptation of Aurelius Victor` historical work on Roman Caesars by an anonymous author in the 5th century. In the original book, Augustus was considered the first Roman emperor. However, in the 12th century, by manipulating a passage from Epitome and changing the context, Hugh and Richard of Saint-Victor were able to make a small but significant modification in their writings, crediting Julius Caesar, rather than Augustus, as the first Roman emperor. Another important transformation along the same theme occurred during the 13th century. When Dominican Vincent of Beauvais compiled the aforementioned passage from the work by Richard of Saint-Victor, he substituted the word “jus” for “mos Romae.” This small alteration is not insignificat, because it was the result of a change in historical and political contexts. At the time of Friar Vincent`s compilation, traditional customary laws were beginning to be codified and maintaining justice was considered a key function of the king in 13th century` France. This reworking of historical sources also reflects the culture of reading and interpretation of history as medieval men continuously re-actualized the past to mirror of the beliefs of the present.
Planning Ability in Tower of London and a Virtual Kitchen Environment: in View of Embodied Cognition

The Tower of London (TOL) Test is a neuropsychological tool designed to assess mental planning ability (Shallice, 1982), which is an important domain in executive functions. However, neuropsychological assessments that reflect the classic theory of cognition, such as the Tower of London, have limitations. As embodied cognitive theory provides an important theoretical foundation for executive function, the need to develop and adjust tool kits to measuring Executive Function is emerging. Also, although the test can be sensitive to frontal brain damage, it can be difficult to measure everyday functions due to its low ecological validity. We suggest a new clinical approach that the Tower of London in the virtual environment maintains a simulation of the embodied body and real-life space around it.
Vol.25 No.-
This article aims to study cultural exchanges between England and Burgundy, focusing on book cultures during the period of transition from the manuscript to the print culture in the late fifteenth century. At that time, Flanders under the rule of the Valois Dukes of Burgundy was a prosperous centre of economy and culture. It had also maintained a close relationship with England politically, economically and culturally. This study highlights two English historical figures who had deep relations with Burgundian (especially Flemish) book cultures: Edward IV and William Caxton, the first English printer. Edward IV is often named as "the founder of the Royal Library" in England. Highly influenced and stimulated by the Burgundian book culture, he established his personal library by modeling it on the library of a Flemish aristocrat, Lodewijk van Gruuthuse. He also purchased most of his illuminated manuscripts from the prominent professional workshops in Flanders. However, this was not a mere imitation. The English king`s reception of books mainly depended on his own interests, as it is attested in the manuscript of the Miroir historial produced in a Flemish workshop. The first English printer William Caxton had also a close tie with the duchy of Burgundy. Initiated as a mercer, he finished his apprenticeship in Flanders and lived in Bruges for more than thirty years. However, his life met a turning point when Margaret of York, sister of Edward IV, got married to the Charles the Bold and became the duchess of Burgundy in 1468. In fact, William Caxton translated The recuyell of the historyes of Troye, from French into English under her patronage. He printed his first book in Bruges as introducing printing, the newest technology of the time. In so doing, he used the ``Burgundian bastard font`` in his initial publication. This font, more legible to the lay public, had been very popular in the duchy of Burgundy and frequently used in manuscripts and in printing of Flanders. However, after he returned to England and set up a press at Westminster in 1476, Caxton conceived an English style of bastard font in his printed books. It signifies that he was not merely influenced from the book cultures of the Continent, but he created a new English style of print culture.
