Ilizarov 시술 후 추적검사에 있어 초음파검사의 유용성 : 단순촬영과의 비교

Purpose : To compare the usefulness of ultrasonography in follow up evaluation after the Ilizarov procedurewith that of plain radiography. Materials and Methods : We analyzed ultrasound findings in twelve patients who hadundergone the Ilizarov procedure, and retrospectively compared the results with the findings of plain radiography.The procedure was performed due to post-traumatic limb deformity or non-union(nine of twelve patients), congenitalpseudoarthrosis(one case), sequelae of poliomyelitis(one case), and short stature(one case). The patients' meanage was 29 years ; eleven of twelve were male. Ten of twelve procedures were performed on the tibia and two on thefemur. After 7-10 days, distraction was initiated at a rate of 0.25mm four times a day. Ultrasonography wasperformed with a 5-10 MHz linear or convex transducer ; new bone formation was defined as dotted or linearechogenic foci within a hypoechoic distraction gap. Initial ultrasonographic examination was performed 2-4 weeksafter distraction, and the results were compared with those of plain radiography. Color Doppler imaging wasperformed in three cases. Results : On ultrasonograms, new bone formation was initially detected 18-29(mean, 23)days after distraction, and on plain radiographs, 37-58(mean, 45) days after this procedure ; ultrasonography thusdetected new bone formation at least three weeks earlier than did plain radiography. Complication after theIlizarov procedure were four cysts at the distraction site, and one pin site infection, as seen on ultrasonograms.None of these four cysts, the size of which was 12-22mm(mean, 17mm), was visible on plain radiographs. In one casein which a cyst was present, ultrasound-guided aspiration was performed. Color Doppler examination was performedin three of twelve patients, and in all three, periosteal vascularity at the edge of the distracted gap was seento be preserved. Conclusion : After the Ilizarov bone lengthening procedure, ultrasound appears to be useful forfollow-up examination. New bone formation, as well as complications, can be detected earlier ; it can indicatewhether ultrasound-guided interventional procedure is required, and if combined with color Doppler study, is ableto detect the periosteal blood supply. Further evaluation of the clinical significance of preserved periostealblood supply seems however, to be needed.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of hyaluronic acid (HA) on prevention of abdominal adhesions depending on various concentrations thereof by inducing an abrasion experimentally in the cecum of rats. Each group was consisted of 10 rats, and 40 rats were divided into 4 groups comprising the saline treatment group, HA 0.4% treated group, 0.6% treated group, and 0.8% treated group. And abrasion was caused in the cecum by using dry gauze and thereby, adhesion was induced. On 7 days after the operation, adhesions of each region were evaluated into the range of 0-4. Significant difference was found in the adhesion score between the control group and each experimental group (P<0.05). Also, HA 0.4% treatment group showed the lowest adhesion score (P<0.05). In the light of the above results, HA 0.4% solution was more effective on prevention of adhesion than HA 0.6% and 0.8% solution.

In the previous experiment, it was found that OCC pre-treatment with Hobart mixer at 20-25% consistency for 3 hrs or more followed by the application of the equal refining time, caused the increase of tensile strength, burst strength, compressive strength and tear resistance, compared to the no pre-treated. Four completely different fibers, which were Hw-BKP, Sw-BKP, White ledger, and OCC were selected for this experiment to investigate the effect of mechanical pre-treatment process on different fibers. From the experiment, it was found that the mechanical pre-treatment did not decrease fiber length at all, but decreased freeness, com-pared to the no pre-treated, when the same refining time was applied. WRVs of the pre-treated fibers were higher than the no pre-treated at the same freeness level. It was speculated that the mechanical pre-treatment induced only hydrophilic nature of fibers without damaging fiber length by delaminating fiber walls. The fiber surface area and the physical strength differences of handsheets will be discussed in the next publication.

This study is a continuation of the previous experimental analysis and is mostly focused on handsheet strength properties. Four completely different fibers, which were Hw-BKP, SW-BKP, White ledger, and OCC, were selected to investigate the effect of mechanical pre-treatment by Hobart mixer on handsheet strehgth properties. After equal time mechanical pre-treatment, the fibers were refined with laboratory valley beater for 10, 20 and 30 minutes, and handsheets were prepared from the fibers for physical strength comparison. Handsheets from SW-BKP and OCC showed 5-30% increase of breaking length, burst index, tear index, and compression index while handsheets from HW-BKP and White ledger no increase except tear index. In Hobart mixer pre-treatment, HW-BKP and White ledger fibers were easily attached to the wall of the mixer bowl and mechanical action was not effectively applied. The fiber length of Hw-BKP and White ledger were 0.837 mm and 1.591 mm, respectively, while SW-BKP and OCC were 2.744 mm and 2.033 mm, respectively, in weight weighted length. The effective mechanical pre-treatment seems to be related to the fiber length. Tear indexes of the pre-treated furnish were much higher than no pre-treatment at the same breaking length level.

Purpose: The cDNA microarray provides a powerful alternative with an unprecedented view in monitoring geneexpression levels and leads to discoveries of regulatory pathways involved in complicated biological processes. Our aim is to explore the different gene-expression patterns in gastric adenocarcinomas. Materials and Methods: By using a cDNA microarray representing 4,600 cDNA clusters, we studied the expression profiling in 10 paired gastric adenocarcinoma samples and in adjacent noncancerous gastric tissues from the same patients. Alterations in the gene-expression levels were confirmed by Vsing Northern blots and reverse-transcription PCR (RT-PCR) in all of 4 randomly selected genes. Results: Genes those were expressed differently in cancer ous and noncancerous tissues were identified. 44 (of which 26 were known) and 92 (of which 43 were known) genes or cDNA were up- and down-regulated, respectively, in more than $80\%$ of the gastric adenocarcinoma samples. In cancer ous tissues, genes related to gene/protein expression, cellcycle regulation, and metabolism were mostly up-regulated whereas genes related to the oncogene/tumor suppressor gene, cell structure/motility, and immunology were mostly down-regulated. The semi-quantitative RT-PCR results for the four genes we tested were consistent with the array findings. Conclusions: These results provide not only a new molecular basis for understanding the biological properties of gastric adenocarcinomas but also a useful resource for future development of therapeutic targets and diagnostic markers for gastric adenocarcinomas.
Mg<sub>0.1</sub>Zn<sub>0.9</sub>O/ZnO 활성층 구조의 박막트랜지스터 연구

We report the characteristics of thin-film transistor (TFT) to make the bi-channel structure with stacked $Mg_{0.1}Zn_{0.9}O$ (Mg= 10 at.%) and ZnO. The ZnO and $Mg_{0.1}ZnO_{0.9}O$ thin films were deposited by radio frequency (RF) co-sputter system onto the thermally oxidized silicon substrate. A total thickness of active layer was 50 nm. Firstly, the ZnO thin films were deposited to control the thickness from 5 nm to 30 nm. Sequentially, the $Mg_{0.1}ZnO_{0.9}O$ thin films were deposited to change from 45 nm to 20 nm. The bi-layer TFT shows more improved properties than the single layer TFT. The field effect mobility and subthreshold slope for $Mg_{0.1}ZnO_{0.9}O$/ZnO-TFT are $7.40cm^2V^{-1}s^{-1}$ and 0.24 V/decade at the ZnO thickness of 10 nm, respectively.

To improve the physical properties of OCC (Old Corrugated Container) fibers, we used the mechanical pre-treatment on the fibers before refining . The mechanical action in the Hobart mixer induced high shear and compression on the fibers, which resulted in changes of fiber internal structure, and microcompressions on the surface of the fibers. We evaluated the amount of mechanical treatment on the fibers by fiber curl index for convenience. Four different refining techniques were applied to the pre-treated fibers (valley beater, Kady mill, PFI mill, and Impact refining) to find the best combination of the pre-treatment and the refining methods. Conclusions were summarized as followed. 1. Mechanical pre-treatment in Hobart mixer for more than 1 hour caused the increase of curl index of OCC fibers, and increased breaking length, burst index, and tear index the handsheets more than 10 % in this experiment. 2. Kady mill and PFI mill refining were effective in keeping fiber length from shortening Kady mill and Valley beater refining straightened out the fiber curls, and reduced the curl index. 3. Valley beating reduced fiber length very fast and generated fines more than other refining methods. 4. To increase breaking length and burst strength while keeping tear strength , combination of mechanical pre-treatment and Valley beating were most effective.
