The purpose of this article is to arrange and integrate existing works of the present writer. The article reviews major studies on Xiao-pin小品 in the Late Ming Dynasty, done after 1980s when full-scale studies on this field have started. It also elaborates the category and concept of Xiao-pin小品 in the Late Ming Dynasty. In this article, Xiao-pin小品 in the Late Ming Dynasty would be categorized into three types: Xuan-ben-xiao-pin選本小品, Bie-ben- xiao-pin別本小品, and Bi-ji-xiao-pin筆記小品. As to the concept of Xiao-pin小品, first, regarding the notion of Xiao-pin小品, this article understands Xiao-pin小品 literature in a comparative relation to traditional literature. Second, regarding the type of Xiao-pin小品, this article analyses Xiao-pin小品 with the perspective of literary and artistic notion of Xiao-pin小品 pieces, and of editing methods of Xiao-pin小品 selections. 본고는 만명 ‘소품’의 범주와 개념에 대한 현재까지의 연구를 종합하여 만명소품의 연구가 본격적으로 이루어진 1980년대 이후의 학계의 주요 연구성과를 되돌아보고, 만명 ‘소품’의 작품 범주와 개념 의미를 좀 더 명확하게 정리해보기 위한 목적으로 작성되었다. 본고에서는 그간의 여러 연구자들이 제시한 탁견을 바탕으로 만명 ‘소품’의 범주를 선본소품(‘총집’ 형식의 만명소품선집)⋅별본소품(‘별집’ 형식의 만명소품선집)⋅필기소품(‘필기’ 형식의 만명저작)으로 삼분하고, 만명 ‘소품’의 개념을, 소품 용어의 관념 연구로서 소품문학을 정통문학과의 상대관계 속에서 파악하고, 소품 작품의 유형 연구로서 소품문장의 문학예술상의 개념과 소품선집의 편집방법상의 개념으로 파악한다.
