The purpose of this study is to investigate how deaf signers of Korean Sign Language (KSL) process KSL words and whether there are differences in processing between human-generated sign language and avatar-generated sign language. To compare the two processes, human sign videos were created by recording a sign language interpreter expressing KSL words, while avatar sign videos were created with the Maya and the Unity software. The sign language stimuli used in the experiment consisted of 50 words and 50 nonwords. Forty-two deaf signers took part in a sign language lexical decision task, where they were asked to watch sign language videos and determine whether the stimuli were words or nonwords as fast and accurately as they can. The results showed that the signers responded more quickly to human sign videos than to avatar sign videos. Furthermore, the participants responded with different criteria depending on the conditions: they showed a liberal bias in the human sign condition, while they exhibited a more conservative bias in the avatar sign condition. These findings indicate that the singers were able to process information from human sign videos more accurately and rapidly than the same information from avatar sign videos. Additionally, our results support that signers tend to experience cognitive burden when processing words signed by an avatar.

Objectives: This study aims to assess the incremental economic burden of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adult atopic dermatitis (AD) patients. Methods: A retrospective, cross-sectional study was performed using 2018 Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service-National Patient Sample data. The incremental economic burden was assessed between adult AD patients with MDD (AD with MDD) and adult AD patients without MDD (AD without MDD). We defined adult AD patients as those aged≥20 years who had at least two claim records with diagnosis of AD. AD with MDD were defined as AD patients having at least two claim records with diagnosis of MDD. AD without MDD were defined as those who had no claim record with diagnosis of MDD. AD without MDD matched by propensity score according to age, gender, and type of national security program were defined using a 1:2 greedy matching method. Medical costs were estimated by National Health Insurance (NHI)-covered medical costs. The ratio of medical costs between AD with MDD and matched-AD without MDD was adjusted for Charlson Comorbidity Index in the generalized linear model. Results: AD with MDD (n=371) had statistically higher hospital admission risk and outpatient visits (1.86-fold, p<0.0001) and tertiary-care hospital visits (2.86-fold, p<0.0001) compared to matched-AD without MDD (n=742). The annual average NHI-covered medical costs per patient were estimated to be 4,903,870 Korean Won (KRW) for AD with MDD and 2,804,183 KRW for matched-AD without MDD, resulting in cost ratio of 1.75-fold (p<0.0001). In the multivariate regression model, the medical cost per patient was 1.45-fold (95% Cl: 1.30−1.62) higher for AD with MDD than matched-AD without MDD. Conclusion: This study demonstrates a significant incremental economic burden of comorbid MDD in adult AD patients. Thus, greater emphasis on the prevention and treatment of MDD in adult AD patients is warranted.

Object : The aim of this study was to assess the clinical indicators related to Pattern-Identification(PI) in acute cerebral infarction patients. Methods : We studied hospitalized patients within 30days after ictus, who admitted at Korean Medicine Center of Kyung-Hee University from January 2010 to October 2012.(n=290) Two Traditional Korean Medicine(TKM) physicians evaluated the patients independently and diagnosed PI. Inter-rater reliability was measured using simple percentage agreement and the Cohen's kappa(κ) coefficient. To assess the clinical indicators closely related to each PI, we analysed average score of each indicator in each group. Results : Simple percentage agreement of PI between raters was 64.83% and Cohen's kappa(κ) coefficient was 0.526(95% CI: 0.451-0.600). Inter-rater reliability level was fair to good. We analysed the clinical indicators in each group. Significant indicators for Fire-Heat Pattern(FHP) were reddened complexion and strong pulse power, and meaningful indicators for FHP were halitosis and thick tongue fur. Significant indicator for Dampness-Phlegm Pattern(DPP) was overweight and there was no meaningful indicator. Significant indicator for Yin-Deficiency Pattern(YDP) was dry tongue fur and meaningful indicator for YDP was thirst. There was no significant indicator for Qi-Deficiency Pattern(QDP) and pale complexion and faint low voice were meaningful indicators for QDP. Conclusions : This study reveals the significant and meaningful clinical indicators related to each Pattern-Identification in acute cerebral infarction patients. It will contribute to standardization of Korean Medical Diagnosis and Treatment in acute cerebral infarction patients.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to examine the Differences of symptom improvement depending on correspondance of Herb medicine with Oriental Medical Diagnosis in Acute Stroke Patient. Methods : We studied hospitalized patients within 10days after their ictus who were admitted at Kyunghee University Oriental Medical Center from May 2011 to October 2011. We compared the improvement of MI and SSS score between Correspondance group(n=9) and Non-correspondance group(n=13). Results : The patients who had corresponding herb medicine with Oriental Medical Diagnosis show much improvement of MI score, but there is no significant difference. There is no significant difference on improvement of SSS score, between Correspondance and Non-correspondance. Conclusion : This study provides evidence that correspondance of herb medicine with Oriental Medical Diagnosis is important to improve the symptoms of acute stroke.
