        The Effects of Gamification for Vocabulary Learning as Edu-tech in EFL College Classrooms: The Case of QuizN

        This study aims to review and analyze research articles on AI in academic journals on English language teaching published in South Korea in the past 5 years. A total of 35 articles were analyzed according to research periods, subjects, methods, and themes. The study revealed that the number of AI studies tended to continuously increase during the period from 2018 to 2022. The favored research participants were college students, followed by elementary and high school students. Recently more studies were conducted with mixed-level students, teachers, and experts. Mixed methods have been the dominant research method in recent years. In terms of research themes, types of AI appeared most often, while there emerged a variety of themes such as teaching and learning methods and development of instructional models as well as the concept of AI, learners’, pre-service teachers, and teachers’ perceptions of AI. Based on the findings, pedagogical implications and future directions for research regarding AI were suggested.

        미래병사체계를 위한 휴대형 연료전지 기술개발 동향 및 발전방안

        A portable power supply system for soldiers must be able to supply electric energy corresponding to the power consumption of combat support troops, and have a carrying load in a range that does not impair the combatant's ability to execute operations. In particular, as the total required power of combat equipment increases with the advances in the future soldier system, a portable, lightweight power supply system with high efficiency is essential. A fuel cell has a high energy-to-weight density compared to lithium batteries, which are used mainly as a military power source system. Therefore, it is capable of miniaturization and lightweight, making active R&D to a portable power supply system. In this paper, the characteristics of the fuel cell applied as a portable power supply system, and the R&D trends of domestic and foreign military portable fuel cell systems were investigated. The current status of domestic technology compared to the level of foreign development was analyzed. In addition, future technology development plans are presented based on the consideration factors when developing a portable fuel cell (power supply stability, portability, and cost reduction) so that it can be used when establishing a plan on the development of a portable fuel cell system for the future soldier system. 병사용 휴대형 전원은 전투원의 작전 수행 능력을 해치지 않는 범위의 휴대 하중을 지님과 동시에 전투장비의 소비전력에 대응하는 전기에너지를 공급할 수 있어야 한다. 특히 미래병사체계의 경우 전투장비의 고성능화에 따라 장비의 총 요구전력이 증가하고 있으므로 경량 고효율 특성을 가지는 휴대형 전원 개발이 필수적이다. 연료전지는 군용 전원으로 주로 적용되던 종래의 리튬 전지에 비해 중량 대비 에너지밀도가 높아 경량 소형화가 가능하여 휴대형 전원 시스템으로 활발한 연구개발이 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 휴대형 전원으로 적용되는 연료전지의 특성을 살펴보고, 국내·외 군용 휴대형 연료전지 개발 현황을 조사한 후, 국외 선진 기술국의 개발 수준 대비 국내 기술 현황에 대해 분석한다. 또한, 미래병사체계용 전원으로의 적용을 위한 휴대형 연료전지 개발 시 고려해야할 주요 요소를 전력 공급 안정성, 휴대 용이성, 비용 절감 세 가지로 분류하고, 이와 관련된 기술을 중심으로 발전방안을 제시하여 향후 연료전지 기반 개인병사체계용 휴대형 전원 기술 발전방안 수립 시 활용할 수 있도록 한다.

        The Effects of Online-Based Teacher Feedback and Self-Feedback on EFL College Students’ Writing and Their Perceptions

        The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of online-based teacher feedback and self-feedback in the process-oriented writing approach during the COVID-19 pandemic and the EFL students’ perceptions and preferences of both versions of feedbacks. Fifty-nine sophomore students majoring in police administration in junior college participated in the study. The score of their essays was compared by Holst’s (1993) Writing Rubric and analyzed by Faigley and Witte’s (1981) Taxonomy of Revision. Moreover, pre-and post-surveys with open-ended questionnaires were conducted. The findings revealed a higher improvement of writing by teacher feedback than by self-feedback. There were more surface changes than meaning changes from both types of feedback. The survey results show that students had more positive perceptions toward teacher feedback than self-feedback. Despite providing a checklist for self-feedback online, students did not revise as much as they marked on the checklist. However, some students felt a sense of pride in the process of self-feedback, so it can be applied in writing classrooms. Additionally, almost half of students preferred both types. Therefore, a teacher feedback and self-feedback can create a proper writing environment and enhance students’ writing motivation.

        Identity Construction of Korean Non-Regular English Conversation Teachers at Elementary Schools

        Based on the poststructuralist notion of teacher identity, the study aims to explore how non-regular English conversation teachers (non-RECT) negotiate and construct their teacher identity. The data was collected from interviews with two non-RECTs at two elementary schools. The data were analyzed through the constant comparison method to find the themes that describe the teacher identity negotiation process. The findings show that the two non-RECTs identified themselves as outsiders of the school, feeling isolated and marginalized from the regular teacher community. Their lack of credentials in primary school education positioned them as less qualified, which contradicted their own perception of themselves as experienced teachers. The instability of their job status and the constant changes with educational policy led them to negotiate their conflicting identities and reconstruct their imagined identities.

        도로 주변부 기온에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구: 도로조건과 교통특성을 중심으로

        지구 온난화와 도시 열섬 현상, 그리고 도시 및 교통 환경과 도시민의 건강은 상호 직 간접적인 관계로 이어져 있다. 특히 도시 폭염 및 폭우 등과 같은 이상 기온현상은 도시민의 삶의 질과 관련되어 부정적인 영향을 미치고 있어 그 현상을 파악하기 위한 연구가 최근 다양하게 수행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 도시 피복율이 높은 도로의 기하구조 및 교통조건이 도로 주변부 기온에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위하여 서울시 도로 5개의 서로 상이한 도로 기하구조를 가지고 있는 지점의 기온, 습도, 풍속, 교통량, 평균 통행속도, 중앙분리대 설치 여부, 가로 식재 설치 여부 등 도로의 환경(미기상적) 조건과 더불어 도로 및 교통 현황을 조사하였다. T-test 분석 결과 기온의 특성상 오전, 낮, 밤의 기온이 서로 상이하다고 밝혀졌기 때문에 도로 주변부 기온 분석 모형은 시간대별로 각각 구축되어 타당한 결과가 도출되었다. 도로 기하구조면에서는 시간대와 상관없이 식생 중앙분리대가 설치된 도로의 경우는 설치하지 않은 도로에 비해 $1.3{\sim}2.2^{\circ}C$정도의 기온 저감효과를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 교통조건면에서는 평균통행속도가 낮아질수록, 차로당 교통량이 많을수록 도로 주변부 기온이 올라가는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 따라서 교통 운영면에서 소통을 원활하게 하는 정책을 수행한다면 도로 주변부 기온을 낮추는 효과도 가질 수 있다고 판단된다. It turned out that there was a direct or an indirect relationship among global warming, urban heat island effects, urban and traffic environments, and public's health. In particular, unusual climate phenomena such as frequent heavy rainfall and scorching heat in a row that had rarely happened before have a negative effect on quality of life for people living in urban areas. This study focuses on the effects of roadway geometric design and traffic conditions on air temperature of roadside in Seoul Metropolitan Areas, controlling of roadway micro-climate environment. Five roadway segments containing different roadway and traffic conditions in terms of traffic median with trees, street trees, traffic volume and average travel speeds were surveyed. According to statistical results(t-test) from three roadway air temperature regression model estimations, air temperature is found to be different from one another in three periods-morning, afternoon and evening. Regarding roadway geometric design, air temperature of urban roads with vegetated median strips is lower about 1.3~2.2 degrees in celcius. Higher traffic volumes per lane and lower average travel speeds will tend to increase roadside air temperature, and efficient traffic operation policies can protect from increasing roadside air temperature in urban areas.

        동시 다중 주사 방식의 초음파 합성구경 빔포머 구조

        Although synthetic aperture focusing techniques can improve the spatial resolution of ultrasound imaging, they have not been employed in a commercial product because they require a real-time N-channel beamformer with a tremendously increased hardware complexity for simultaneous beamforming along M multiple lines. In this paper, a hardware-efficient beamformer architecture for synthetic aperture focusing is presented. In contrast to the straightforward design using NM delay calculators, the proposed method utilizes only M delay calculators by sharing the same values among the focusing delays which should be calculated at the same time between the N channels for all imaging points along the M scan lines. In general, synthetic aperture beamforming requires M 2-port memories. In the proposed beamformer, the input data for each channel is first upsampled with a 4-fold interpolator and each polyphase component of the interpolator output is stored into a 2-port memory separately, requiring 4M 2-port memories for each channel. By properly limiting the area formed with the synthetic aperture focusing, the input memory buffer can be implemented with only 4 2-port memories and one short multi-port memory.

        The Effects of Flipped Learning on College Students’ Vocabulary Learning

        The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of flipped learning in a college ESP class in terms of students’ vocabulary learning and the students’ perceptions of flipped learning. For data collection, 60 seniors of K junior college participated in a flipped learning English class for one semester. The control group was taught by the traditional lecture-based method and the experimental group was taught through the method of flipped learning. A pre-vocabulary test, a post-vocabulary test, and a delayed-vocabulary test were conducted to measure students’ vocabulary knowledge in terms of Nation’s (2013) three dimensions; form, meaning, and use. Then, the students were given a survey questionnaire with open-ended questions. The findings show that there was a significant difference between the vocabulary tests, indicating positive effects of flipped learning classes on vocabulary learning. Flipped learning was more effective to help students learn and memorize the form and meaning of vocabulary than use. The survey results show that students were satisfied with the flipped learning class due to the online visual materials and the collaborative activities in class despite the learners’ burden of having to watch the preview video regularly.
