Serum immunoglobulin E (1gE) in children was determined by PRIST in 25 children as control snd 273 patients with allergic diseases (139 patients with bronchial asthma, 61 patients with allergic rhinitis and 73 patients wi th allergic skin disease). In addition, correlations of serum IgE levelwere studied with the duration, age, leukocytcounts, peripheral blood eosinophil counts and presence of sinusitis. The results were as follws; 1) Mean serum IgE level of 25 control children was 32. 7 IU /ml(7. 9 135. 2 IU /ml). There was no significant difference between male and female (P> 0. 05). 2) Mean serum IgE leve) was significantly higher in bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis and allergic skin disease than those in control, and there was significant differences between each groups. But there was no significant difference bet ween male and female in each group(P>0. 05). 3) In bronchisl asthma there was significant correlation between serum IgE and age(P<0.01), but not in two other groups(P>0. 05). 4) Mean peripheral blood eosinophil counts was higher significantly in bronchial asthma than in other groups(P<0. 01) and there was signifi cant correlation between serum IgE and peripheral blood eosinophil counts,in bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis (P <0. 01). 5) Serum IgE level had no significant correlation with the duration of illness and peripheral blood WBC counts (P> 0. 05). 6) In alergic rhinitis, incidence of sinusitis was higher in low IgE group than in high IgE group (P <0. 05).
