To assess hydraulic connections between sub-components of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) diagnostic port plug, the laser welding and ablation cutting process were investigated in order to be applied the remote handling maintenance. In this study, laser ablation cutting, which vaporizes a small amount of solid material directly into gas by focusing a laser beam of high density energy, is adopted in order to overcome the limitation of the normal laser cutting technology that the head should be placed as close to the work piece as possible to blow out melt metal at a distance. Complete cutting of a work piece is obtained by repetitive multi-passes of the laser beam. The welding and cutting process were tested on the sample work pieces and finally on a prototype of a hydraulic connection module for remote handling. The results showed that this process can be a promising candidate for hydraulic connections by remote handling.

This research was conducted as a fundamental study to apply tailored blank welding technique into automotive production process. Specially we tried to apply the TWB technique to exhaust system. The materials used in this work were ferritic 439 stainless steel sheet with a thickness of 1.2mm and 0.8mm. Welding tests were conducted for BOP test and dissimilar thickness (0.8 to 1.2t) cases. Major process parameters were position of focus, travel speed, shielding gas and joint (gap) condition. As a result, there are nothing significant welding characteristic compare with TWB of carbon steel. Stainless steel shows the good weldability and mechanical properties (tensile, hardness and forming strength) also shows high level. Just problem is gap condition. However, also in this case, it shows not only good forming strength but also base metal fracture after tensile test. And to conclude, it is good opportunity to make lightweight design muffler using TB welding technique.

In this paper, in order to acquire optimized control gains for Near Constant Force Suspension(NCFS) strategy of active suspension, we use Autodesign toolkit which is included in Recurdyn software. Wheeled vehicle is modelled using Recurdyn software as a test vehicle, and NCFS control algorithm is implemented using Matlab/Simulink package. Furthermore, these two softwares are connected, which makes a co-simulation platform. Some control gains are defined as a design value in Autodesign toolkit, and vertical displacement, speed, and acceleration of the vehicle are used as a performance evaluation required to calculate the optimum values of the control gains. By selecting the method of design of experiment and meta-model, we can proceed the optimization process easily using this Autodesign toolkit, which results in a good design results which show us better control results compared with the results with manually tuned gains.
스테인리스강의 Nd:YAG 레이저 겹치기 용접부 피로수명에 미치는 용접변수의 영향

Spot welding which use the main process for side block production of stainless steel railway vehicle is legged behind in laser welding about a quality and productivity. Although the laser welding has many potential advantages such as low heat input and aspect ratio of weld bead, its application to a new structural component still is required many engineering data including mechanical properties such as tensile, fatigue strength, etc on. Therefore, experimental analysis was carried out to understand the fatigue phenomena of different thickness stainless steel overlap joining panels by Nd:YAG laser welding. The fatigue life curves were obtained through fatigue tests with the various levels of applied load. The fatigue life is related with the parameters such as gap size and penetration depth through experiment. As the results, tensile strength and fatigue life were proportional in heat input level and gap was identified the major factor for fatigue life. Also we could know that deferent a-ferrite content at HAZ depend on welding heat input was important factor to determine a formation of initial crack and total fatigue life cycle.

The lap joint welding of 6k2l aluminum sheets by Nd: YAG laser were performed with an aluminum 5183 filler wire or without a filler wire. The porosity of laser welding beads were observed through an optical microscope and X-ray photography with various levels of welding speed and gap size. The porosity was observed in the gap between upper and lower sheet near a heat affected zone when autogenous welding. Decrease of welding speed and use of AA5183 filler wire reduced porosity significantly.
