Effect of Zr Thin Film on Zr Foil as a FCCI Barrier Between Lanthanide (La-Ce) and Clad Material

Zirconium (Zr), a potential candidate for preventing Fuel-Cladding Chemical Interaction, shows stable interdiffusion behavior between cladding and fuel materials. However, a 25 μm-thick Zr foil allows local inter-diffusion, due to defects generated during manufacturing. In this study, we investigate the use of a Zr thin film deposited on Zr foil for preventing local inter-diffusion. The diffusion behavior of the Zr thin film on Zr foil was investigated using misch metal (Ce: 75% and La: 25%) as fuel fission product, in order to effectively simulate nuclear fuel. While without the Zr barrier substantial inter-diffusion occurred at the interface between the ferritic/martensitic HT9 cladding material and misch metal, the Zr thin film on Zr foil exhibited excellent resistance to interdiffusion. The enhancement of the barrier ability of the Zr thin film on Zr foil was attributed to a lower amount of defects induced by the Zr thin film layer.

Background: In order to evaluate the suitability of the clock drawing test (CDT) for a detection of dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI), we assessed interrater reliabilities, correlations, and validity of four common scoring methods of the CDT. Methods: The study subjects consisted of 524 community elderly aged between 60 and 85 yr. Clock drawings were scored independently and blindly by three raters according to four different methods (Freedman, Rouleau, Todd, and CERAD-CDT). Subjects were assessed of their cognitive function and activity of daily life. Dementia was assessed by a psychiatrist using DSM-IV or NINCDS-ADRDA criteria. Sensitivity and specificity of the each scoring methods was estimated. By comparing area under the curve, the diagnostic efficiency of the CDT methods for dementia and MCI were evaluated. Results: Inter-rater and intra-rater reliabilities were high for all four scoring methods. The area under the curve was 82.0-89.7% for the dementia and 65.3-66.9% for the mild cognitive impairment. Sensitivity of clock drawing test was between 0.75 and 0.85 for dementia and 0.41 and 0.85 for mild cognitive impairment, and specificity was between 0.80 and 0.84 for dementia and 0.43 and 0.83 for mild cognitive impairment. Conclusions: The reliability and validity of CDT for dementia and MCI in the elderly living in the community was not high. Therefore, CDT is not recommended to be used alone to screen for possible prodromal stages of dementing illnesses and dementia.
CAD/CAE 시스템을 이용한 스탬핑 금형의 라운딩 형상 최적 설계

In order to reduce trial-and-errors in the die design and production, CAE systems for analysis of stamping tools have been introduced at the initial design stage recently. For optimal design, the CAE engineers may need to correct the meshes generated by automatic mesh generation programs. However, they may need help of CAD engineers as they are usually not skilled in manipulation of CAD systems. In order to get around these problems, automatic shell mesh modification method is proposed, which utilizes existing CAD/CAE package (in this study, I-DEAS) without user interaction. The developed method and optimization techniques are applied to a stamping die rounding optimization problem. The optimization results show that the manpower and the time required at virtual tryout can be reduced by using the developed systems.
