Tethered-Balloon Package System 개발 및 대기 에어로졸의연직 분포 측정

For a vertical atmospheric aerosol distribution measurement, a very compact and light particle sampling package isdeveloped. This package includes a compact optical particle counter (Hy-OPC), a light and small condensation particlecounter (Hy-CPC), sensors (GPS, wind velocity, temperature, humidity), and a communication and system controlboard. This package is attached to He balloon and the altitude is controlled by a winch. Using this system the verticalparticle size distribution was measured. The test results showed that the ground base atmospheric particle measurementresult may be a lot different from that high above the ground.
안산지역 내에서의 Tethered Balloon 탑재형 포집기를 이용한 연직 분포된 Aerosol 포집 및 분석

It is very important to measure atmospheric particles and evaluate the characteristics of them since aerosol can influence atmospheric environment, climate, and health. Satellite, aircraft, radio sonde are usually used to measure the vertical distribution of particle properties, temperature, humidity, and pressure. Although the method of using an aircraft is favorable to collect the horizontal distribution of the particles, but unadaptable to measure the vertical distribution of the particles. However, all-in-one balloon particle sampler system can collect particles depending on each altitude controling the balloon by winch. In this research, we performed the air sampling on the TEM grids using house made light weight impactor at the altitude of 300m and 900m. The collected particles were analyzed using TEM/EDS.

Air samples were collected at various altitudes (from 165 to 1153 m) to observe vertical distribution of particulate PAHs concentrations using a very compact and light particle sampling package developed by Eun et al.(2013). TD‐GC‐MS developed by Hwang et al.(2014) was applied to PAHs analysis for effective analysis of PAHs contained trace amounts in the samples. The ranges of total PAHs concentrations were from 6.95 to 96.0 ng m‐3 on the ground and from 3.75 to 21.74 ng m‐3 at high altitude, respectively. All of particulate PAHs concentrations measured on the ground were higher than those measured at high altitude, while, the profile of individual PAH compounds between the ground and high altitude samples were similar. It means the distribution of particulate PAHs concentrations at high altitude were affected by the emission of PAHs emitted from ground.

Atmospheric nano-particles along the altitude is one of the main factors causing severe weather phenomena. It is a challenge to find the precise particle size distribution. One useful instrument includes a scanning mobility particle sizer (SMPS). This measures the size distribution of submicron aerosols. The SMPS consists of a condensation particle counter (CPC), differential mobility analyzer (DMA), high voltage power supplier (HVPS), and neutralizer. Due to the many components, it is difficult to install a commercial SMPS into a tethered balloon package system (Eun, 2011). In this study, we customized a SMPS for the tethered balloon package system called Hy-SMPS. It is portable, compact in structure, and evaluated by TSI SMPS using mono and poly-dispersed particles.
