This research was investigated with denitrification of wastewater containing nitrate, using upflow anaerobic sludge blanket process. The upflow anaerobic sludge blanket process is also used for both artifical and industrial wastewater. Main ingredients investigated in the artifical and industrial wastewater experiment were the determination of optimum organism/nitrate ratios, nitrate removal efficiency by various hydrogen donor addition. From the experimental results the following conclusions were made: In case of adding methanol, ethanol and sodium acetate as hydrogen donor granular sludge was formed 50days after seeding. Average diameter of granular sludge was 4.8㎜ and settling velocity was 55㎝/min. Production rate of gas was 3.5 L/d in case of adding methanol as hydrogen donor in wastewater containing 150㎎/L nitrate. However adding ethanol and sodium acetate as hydrogen donor, gas production rate were 2.2~2.7 L/d respectively. In case of adding methanol as hydrogen donor treatability of artifical wastewater contained 150㎎/L as nitrate was about 91%. But in addition of ethanol and sodium acetate in wastewater contained 40㎎/L as nitrate, nitrate removal efficiency was 80%.

At the four sites Waegwan, Golung, Namji and Samlangjin of the Nakdong River from 1977 to 1983, the results of researching on WQI of water temperature pH, DO, BOD_(5) and SS with applying water quality conversion function and weighting value according to each item, are as follows. 1. The suitable way to applly for getting WQI at the mid-Stream of the Nakdong River was Solway's method. 2. In 1982 and 1983 the water quality of each station became worse. 3. The monthly specific character at the two Stations, Namji and Samlangjin was getting worse in June, July and August, but better in the months. No monthly character found at Waegwan and Golung. 4. The WQI of Samlangjin and Namji rose more than 70, but Golung was much lower. 5. Between Waegwan and Golung, Namji and Sarnlangjin the coefficient of correlation was both 0.6 in high mutual relation, but the one between Kolung and Namji was - 0.03 in very low correlation.

The synthetic sewage-dye wastewater was treated to investigate the effect of the temperature with the activated sludge process. The substrate removal constant k. the parameter of the sludge yield a, and the endogenous respiration b, the oxygen parameter for the energy production a', and endogenous respiration b', and maximum rate for the removal of substrate V_(max) wer determined at various temperature such as 10℃, 20℃, 25℃ and 30℃. It was found that the values of parameters at 30℃ were larger thse of other temperatures, and also that the most effective treatment could be obtained at 30℃.

For the limition on the utility of chemical insecticides, numerous investigation have been focused on biological control of insect pests. Among many biological agents for insect pest control, Bacillus thuringiensis is considered to be one of most promising agents. In general, Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. darmstadiensis 73E10-2 produces α-endotoxin which is mosquitocidal toxin during sporulation. In the strain was produced a lot of α-endotoxin after cultivation at 28℃ for 8 days in T.Y.G. medium α-endotoxin in was highly toxic activity to mosquito larvae after dissociation of α-endotoxin in 50mM NaOH containing 10mM EDTA at 27℃ for 30 min.

The study was investigated with denitrification of wastewater containing nitrate using upflow sludge blanket process. Contents of this study were the determination of optimum COD/NO^(-)₃-N ratio, nitrate removal efficiency by various hydrogen donor addition, characteristics of granular sludge, gas production, relationship between HRT and COD/NO ^(-)₃- N ratio in case of various hydrogen donor addition, relationship between nitrate loading rate and various hydrogen donor addition etc. Results from this study were summurized as follow : 1. In case of adding methanol, ethanol, sodium acetate as hydrogen donor, treatability of wastewater contained 200, 100㎎/ℓ as nitrate was about 91-94 percent. But in addition of ethanol, sodium acetate in wastewater contained 40㎎/ℓ as nitrate, nitrate removal efficiency was 80 percent. 2. As addition of methanol+calcium mixture as hydrogen donor, granular sludge was formed 45 days after seeding. But adding methanol, ehanol, sodium acetate, ethanol+calcium, sodium acetate+calcium, formative period of sludge aggregation was 45 days or more after seeding. And granules diameter was average 5.0㎜ and settling velocity was 58㎝/min 3. Nitrogen gas production rate was 3.9ℓ/d in case of adding methanol as hydrogen donor in wastewater containing 200㎎/ℓ nitrate. However adding ethannol+calcium, sodium acetate+calcium as hydrogen donor, gas production rate were 2.7-2.9ℓ/d respectively. 4. In case of adding methanol+calcium, secondary treatment wastewater+calcium, secondary treatment wastewater only as hydrogen donor, Total nitrogen removal efficiency was 88.0%, 84.0% and 80.0% respectively. At this time nitrate loading rate was 12.0kgNO^(-)₃-N/㎡ ·d.

This study was carry out to investigate the content of the heavy metals such as copper, lead, cadmium containing in the feces and urine of cattle, swine and chicken. We analyzed assorted feed to check heavy metal quantities in domestic animal feed as cattle, swine and chicken. And thed we determine the quantities of heavy metal accumulating in the body of domestic animals. The content of the heavy metals was analyzed by Atomic Absorption spectrophotometry. The results of this study are summarized as follows 1. Assorted feed of cattle was contained Cu 13.658mg/kg, Pb 4.151mg/kg, Cd 0275mg/kg and that of swine was contained Cu 74.293mg/kg, Pb 7.106mg/kg, Cd 0.596mg/kg and that of chicken was contained Cu 51.07mg/kg, Pb 4.313mg/kg, Cd 0.783mg/kg relatively. 2. The concentration of heavy metal in cattle feces is Cu 3.884mg/kg, Pb 1.463mg/kg, Cd 0.09lmg/kg and urine is Cu 0.57mg/kg, Pb 0.203mg/kg, Cd 0.022mg/kg relatively. 3. The heavy metals content in feces of swine and chicken ; The concentration of hevay metal in feces of swine is Cu 63.071mg/kg, Pb 1.919mg/kg, Cd 0.339mg/kg. The heavy metals concentration in feces of chicken is Cu 25.518mg/kg, Pb 1.932mg/kg, Cd 0.483mg/kg. Also, the copper content in feces of swine was higher than cattle, chiken.
