Sooting characteristics of counterflow ethylene/propane mixture flames have been experimentally studied to investigate the fuel structure effect on PHM and soot formation. Laser-induced incandescene and laser-induced fluorescene techniques were employed to measure soot volume fraction and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) concentration, respectively. Importance of $C_{3-}$species on PAH growth as well as the H-abstraction-C$_2$ $H_2$addition (HACA) mechanism has been emphasized, considering that PAH growth rate is greater for with mixed fuel than fer pure fuel flames. It was also confirmed that HACA pathways are the dominant soot growth mechanism. A new PAH growth model including both $C_{2-}$ and $C_{3-}$growth mechanisms is proposed based on the experimental results.
가스터빈 대체연료로서의 와 DME CH₄ 연소특성 비교

DME (Di-Methyl Ehter, CH₃OCH₃) is currently attracting worldwide attention due to its environmental benign characteristics. Until now it was researched as a alternative fuel of diesel automobile because it is a clean fuel producing low soot. In this present study, we compared the methane (CH₄) fuel as main component of natural gas and DME as a alternative fuel of gas turbine. The combustion characteristic of both fuels are evaluated by numerical calculation and basic experiment. Results show that DME has a higher adiabatic flame temperature and combustion velocity and lower auto ignition temperature than those of CH₄ fuel. Especially, DME shows two stage ignition phenomena at 800K. In the experiment of free jet diffusion flame, CH₄ shows normal yellow diffusion flame which means higher soot but DME shows blue flame as the characteristics of premix flame because DME has a O component. The flame markers of OH* and CH* were measured and compared between CH4 and DME flames. We need further research about DME fuel as the alternative fuel of gas turbine.
