The cylindrical near-field measurement system is widely used for the measurement of antennas with a sharp beam in one plane and a broad one in the other. In this paper a method is proposed for the implementation of a cylindrical near-field measurement system based on a personal computer. The proposed near-field system consists of an anechoic chamber, an antenna rotator, a probe and its scanner, a system controller, a network analyzer, and a system operating program. The near field of the antenna under test (AUT) is measured at constant intervals on a cylindrical surface enclosing the AUT, from which far-zone fields, gain, and radiation patterns of the AUT are obtained. An efficient fast Fourier transform technique is employed for the conversion of the near-zone electric field into the far-zone one. The implemented cylindrical near-field system is employed to measure the characteristics of an X-band horn antenna and a waveguide slot array and its accuracy is verified by comparison with the far-field measurement.

This paper proposes an antenna suitable for projectile telemetry applications. The operating frequency of the ceramic patch antenna currently used for projectile applications can easily be shifted out of the desired frequency range due to the very narrow bandwidth of the ceramic patch. The proposed antenna consists of a printed and inverted triangular monopole, a sleeve and a ground plane. Antenna performances according to design parameters are analyzed from which optimum dimensions of the antenna are derived. The sleeve monopole is realized on an FR-4 substrate of 10mm width and 30㎜ height and placed at the center of a ground plane of 28㎜ diameter. Measurements of the fabricated antenna show favorable performances such as a 3.74㏈i maximum gain, a reflection coefficient less than -10㏈ over 1.62-3.25㎓ and an omnidirectional azimuth pattern.

In this paper, a planar dipole with a quasi-isotropic radiation pattern is proposed for use in 2.45㎓ ZigBee communications. A quasi-isotropic radiation pattern is realized by employing a C-shaped dipole electrode pattern on the FR-4 substrate. The antenna electrode shape is optimized using a commercial software so that the dipole shows minimum gain difference, wide frequency bandwidth and good impedance matching performances. The designed antenna is fabricated and its performance is measured. Measured performances of the fabricated antenna are 1.9㏈i maximim gain, 6.9㏈ gain difference, and 310㎒ bandwidth, which are in good agreement with the design goal.
