After the introduction of the KTX, travel time between major cities in Korea has been dramatically reduced. Considering travel time reduction between major cities, this study concerned about the impact of the KTX operation on the intercity travel pattern. Especially, this study aimed to analyze intercity travel mode choice behavior and transfer rate of Daegu Citizens according to the second phase opening of the KTX. The modeling and analysis were performed for two sections of major transportation corridors: (i) the section of KTX between Daegu and Seoul, and (ii) the section of KTX between Daegu and Daejeon. The empirical models for analyzing intercity mode choice behavior and transfer rate were estimated using revealed preference(RP) data and stated preference(SP) data. This study makes use of the data from travel survey from Daegu metropolitan area. The survey data includes the information on travel from Daegu to Daejeon and from Daegu to Seoul. In order to analyze intercity mode choice behavior and transfer rate given the second phase introduction of the KTX, binary logit models structure were constructed. For the model specification, total travel time(including OVTT and IVTT) and total travel cost(including OVTC and IVTC) were considered. In order to analyze transfer rate, incremental changes in travel time and travel cost were applied to utility functions of models.
