N/A Korean agriculture has experienced rapid growth during past 50 years. Korean agriculture grew by a so-called Bio-Chemical technology until late 1970s, and then Mechanical technology led to agricultural growth from 1980s. Such kind of technological progress in the Korean agriculture is confirming induced technical change (or input biased technical change) by Hayami and Ruttan. But, agricultural growth in Korea is led by output biased technical change (or products mix) than input substitution since in 1990s. Conclusively, the sustainable growth of Korean agriculture in the future has to depend on flexibility of output biased technical change.
한국농업의 상대적 생산효율과 성장경로의 국제비교 분석: 1961-2012

This paper discusses the characteristics of Korean agriculture by analyzing agricultural growth path. The production function of international agriculture is estimated by panel analysis such as Fixed Effect (FE) and Least Square Dummy Variables (LSDV) estimations. The paper investigates whether there is a consistency between the frontier derived from partial factor productivity estimates and relative efficiency estimates from panel estimations. The results indicate that Korean agriculture follows typical growth path of developing countries until 1970s and shifts to that of developed countries. Korean agriculture reached the frontier surface of Asian agriculture and international agriculture. However, similar to Japan, Korean agriculture is entering the depression since 2000s. Also, the results show that the panel analysis leads to consistent results with the agricultural growth path frontier of Yamada.
한국 농업 생산의 지역별 효율성 분석: 1955~2013

This study estimates the agricultural technological efficiency by region since the open economy in Korea. The study confirms the decline of productivity growth in Korean agriculture after 2000``s. The Cobb-Douglas production function, the translog production function and the stochastic frontier production function are estimated by using estimated regional agricultural input-out data from 1960 to 2012. Based on estimated results, the technological efficiency is estimated. Since 2000s, the technological efficiency of Korean agriculture in the most of provinces declined and led to depression in production technology and its efficiency.
농업 노동의 질적 차이를 반영한 감귤 생산 노동투입 효율성 비교 분석 : 시장 임금차이를 기준으로

This study aims to analyze the difference in production elasticity based on the types of agricultural labor input regarding its qualitative difference in Jeju mandarin production. To estimate the production function of quality-adjusted labor, we have set up a Quality-Adjusted Index based on the market wage of the agricultural field. We have conducted a multiple regression analysis of the newly estimated labor inputs using the Ordinary Least Squares regression. Results show that the production efficiency of aggregate total labor hours (quality-un-adjusted labor input) is overestimated compared to quality-adjusted labor with qualitative labor homogeneity. Moreover, by analyzing household labor and employment labor, we have observed that the marginal productivity of household labor exceeds that of employment labor. In conclusion, this study verifies that securing labor input homogeneity is crucial for analyzing agricultural labor hours economic efficiency accurately.
한국의 목표가격 기준 농가손실 보전정책효과 및 한계분석

This article investigates a farm income loss compensation policy based on target prices in Korea. Under the policy that is based on target prices, farms receive payments when the average market price falls below target prices. We theoretically explore how the target price based policy cannot fully compensate individual farm income losses. We, then, use the production cost data of 400 Satsuma farms in Jeju to empirically examine who would benefit from the target price based policy and how the payments from the target price based policy reduce losses in farm income. We find that the target price based policy reveals a significant level of basis risk. Our findings suggest that the target price based policy may not fully compensate the income losses of farms. The policy needs to be modified to reduce the level of basis risk.

The purpose of this study is to examine the growth of Korean agriculture for the period 1955∼2012 by estimating time-series data of total agricultural production. The emphasis is on arranging the reliable time-series data of output for closer analysis by enlarging the scope of its measurement up to 89 products. The results shows that the average growth rate of total agricultural production during the period is 2.3%. Furthermore it shows a significant difference in sectoral growth between crops and livestock. In order to review the result, comparative analysis on total output of Korean agricultural sector is conducted with other two official data.
