        The purpose of this study is to provide generalized learner-focused information based on the factual data from survey regarding students7 perception on SecretarialㆍOffice related majors in colleges in order to develop some effective measures for the future of the related field of study facing major changes due to the fast-evolving social and educational atmospheres in the 21st knowledge society. Through the survey analysis, the following results were obtained: the survey showed that respondents’ were generally content with their current major, therefore, their opinions on curriculum transfer into 3-year system turned out to be positive but not as strong as presumed from their high satisfaction on their major. They also expect foreign language and actual practice-based classes to be reinforced to the present curriculum. In addition, school facilities needs to be refurnished to induce better educational effects from some courses, such as on-the-job training and secretarial ㆍ office practice focused classes. In conclusion, it is necessary for the instructors and educational administrators to conduct regular surveys on students to find out their up-to-date needs and expectations on their field of study so that some appropriate actions should timely be taken to catch up the trends of the competitive educational environments in the near future.

      • 서울ㆍ경기ㆍ인천지역 전문대학 비서·사무관련학과 산업체 위탁반 여학생의 대학교육에 대한 인식조사

        The purpose of this study is to get a general understanding over female college students who are virtually one of the major factors for the future of Korea in the era of knowledge society. The study especially focused on company entrusted female college students; group majoring secretarial and office management as a potential niche customer sector for the Korean higher education at crisis. Questionnaires consist of inquiries on their general perspectives regarding career and higher education and circulated to 6 junior colleges in Seoul, Kyonggi, and Incheon area. The survey result showed the tendency of Korean female college students as independent and individualistic in their decision making for higher education and career in general. A significant difference was found in future plans of the company entrusted students’ group compared to the answers of regular students' group. Since they already have full-time job irrespective of their college education, their plans after the graduation tend to be more abstract than that of regular student group. In conclusion, colleges should pay more attention to these student features and differences in order to improve the student satisfaction as educational customers for their better future.

        실무영어교과에 대한 학습자 인식조사

        The purpose of this study is to provide a generalized information through factual data on the students' perception of Business English classes in the secretarial departments of the seven colleges in order to have a better understanding on the changing needs and expectations of the students. The result of this survey will offer some up-to-date data about the needs and expectations on college Business English classes from the perspective of the senior college students for the further researches to be conducted based on them. A questionnaire composed of 25 questions regarding the subject were circulated in 7 colleges in Seoul, Kyonggi and Incheon area. 30 answer sheets from each group were randomly chosen and used for final analysis. The major results are as below. Majority of the students think their English level are very low and the results were more obvious in vocational high school graduates. Large number of respondents think Business English classes are very important in the curriculum and also showed high interests in them, however, they are not Quite satisfied with the effectiveness of the classes. In addition, students' high conscious on English was not effectively linked to the proper action, therefore, instructors need to reorganize and enhance the contents and teaching methods for the courses in order to encourage the students based on their needs and expectations. In conclusion, instructors in charge of Business English class in colleges should observe and analyze the changes in students' needs and expectations and business organizations' as well in order to devise the more customized teaching methods, course contents, and curriculums to satisfy future educational customers.

      • 시대에 따른 언어의 지위변화 양상에 관한 연구

        What makes the present and the future different from the past is that the ebb and flow of languages, accompanying shifting economic, political and military relationships since once a local and regional phenomenon has now become more visibly global. Seismic shifts in the political and economic organization of the world are producing the same trends in language use. Sudden political shifts are producing linguistic dislocation on a major scale. Regarding English language, Graddol (1997) rather foresees that no language will occupy the central place that English did at the end of the twentieth century. Huntington (1996) has remarked the rise in power of the West has been a slow process, which spanned a period of four centuries and its decline could be just as long. Furthermore, searching for definite solution to the ethical and political dilemmas presented by languages from power shifts in the former Soviet Union, or from African countries confront because of limited financial resources are of course as complicated as the issues that major global languages have. Understanding dynamics of world languages needs comprehensive knowledge and backgrounds of various field of studies more than just linguistics. Most of the researches reviewed here were prepared and performed from the perspective of the western scholars regarding major global languages. Therefore, there are high needs of interdisciplinary attempts to link other fields of studies mentioned previously in order to understand the status and future of Korean language for the future. Local concerns and efforts should include to expand the pool of experts in the field and boundaries of research perspectives in order to understand the mechanism in language dynamics in the world of globalisation.

        국내외 고등교육환경 변화에 따른 전문대학 비서사무관련 전공의 향후 전망에 관한 연구

        한국의 고등교육환경은 학령인구 감소에 따른 입학차원감소로 큰 위기에 직면해 있으며 향후 글로벌 경제화에 따른 교육시장 개방 압력, 내부적으로는 입학자원의 감소, 인구 노령화 및 저출산 등이 큰 변수로 작용할 것으로 예측된다. 이러한 가운데 비서사무관련 전공은 1983년 2년제 대학에 처음 개설된 이후 급변하는 국내외 경제동향에 따라 급격한 양적 성장과 침체를 겪으며 현재에 이르렀다. 본 연구는 2년제 대학 내 독립학과로서 30년의 역사를 맞이한 관련 전공의 향후 전망과 경쟁력을 살펴보기 위해 한국 고등교육환경에 대한 거시적, 포괄적 환경에 대한 종합적인 분석을 토대로 국내 2년제 대학 비서사무관련 전공학과들의 현황을 조사ㆍ분석 하였다. 이 과정을 통해 얻은 해당전공에 대한 포괄적인 이해분석을 바탕으로 향후 그 전망과 경쟁력을 가늠해 보았다. 그 결과 해당전공분야가 급변하는 고등교육 환경 속에서 경쟁력을 유지, 강화해나가기 위해서는 과거 급격한 양적 팽창기와는 차별된 지속가능한 성장방안 마련이 필수적인 시기에 직면한 것으로 파악되었다. 한편 향후 국내 산업구조 특성상 서비스 산업의 강세가 당분간 지속될 것이라는 전망 속에 해당전공의 전망은 긍정적일 것으로 예상된다. 따라서 차별화된 질적 성장관리를 위해서는 대학기관이 소재한 지역의 산업구조와 사회요구, 국내 고등교육환경에 대한 국내외 변수 및 입학자원 세대들의 성향 등에 지속적이고도 면밀한 검토에 기초한 경쟁력 강화방안 마련과 시행가능 여부가 해당전공의 성장세 유지에 결정적인 요인이 될 것으로 전망한다. This study provides a macro-perspective analysis on secretarial-and office-related majors in two-year colleges in Korea. The field of secretarial science goes back four decades thus, an attempt to trace its historical path would have meaningful research implications. In the past 30 years, secretarial-and office-related majors in two-year colleges have witnessed periods of dramatic downsizing as well as growth. In particular, the growth had peaked in 1992, with 32 colleges nationwide offering related courses and the enrollment reaching over 3,000. Currently, only 16 colleges, mostly in Seoul, Kyonggi, and Incheon areas, offer these programs to approximately 1.500 students. Korea's higher education system has been facing an unprecedented crisis, witnessing a drastically decreasing number of high school graduates. Global financial crises, pressure to open the educational market, a plunging rate of birth, the aging population, and high college tuition are expected to be the key variables that negatively impact Korea's higher education. In this regard, this study takes a macro perspective, analyzing the global competitiveness of Korea's higher education system and reviewing the current status of secretarial- and office-related majors in the context of the study. The results indicate that the related majors have been adapting relatively well to socio-economic changes, exhibiting some impressive efforts. Thus, it would be important to exert continual efforts to understand needs of the changing environment so that more competitive secretarial-and office-related majors could be designed and implemented in future.

      • 국제통상적 관점에서 본 한국 고등교육분야의 현황과 경쟁력에 대한 분석

        The purpose of this study is to review the controversy over applying trade perspective on Korean higher education sector under the WTO governance. Governmental efforts to enhance the competitiveness of its higher education got proactive since it turned out to be one of the major factors that has negative impact on its national competitiveness. Under the circumstances, status review on the phenomenon from the macro perspective could offer some useful insights for the efforts to build up relevant resolutions for issues within the sector. In order to acquire the general understanding over it, the study broadly reviewed chronological changes in world trade trends that affect current status and issues in Korean higher education.
