대학 교양 필수 작문의 현황과 발전 방안 연구 -충남대학교 작문 수업을 중심으로

본고에서는 충남대학교 작문 강의를 통해 현 대학 글쓰기 교육의 문제점과 개선 방안을 제시하고 대학생의 글쓰기 능력을 향상시킬 수 있는 구체적인 방안을 제시하였다. 먼저 강의 환경의 문제에 있어서는 강좌별로 박사 과정 학생으로 구성된 첨삭 조교를 배치할 것을 제안했다. 아울러 교수자와 학생의 면대면 상담을 할 수 있는 시간과 공간을 학교에서 제공하고 전공별 글쓰기를 할 수 있는 강좌를 마련할 것을 제안했다. 다음으로 학교의 제도적 지원 문제에서는 단계별 글쓰기 교육이 필요하다는 것을 지적하면서 1학년부터 4학년까지의 점진적인 단계별 글쓰기 교육에 대해 제안하고 현재 교양 필수 2학점으로 되어 있는 글쓰기 강좌를 8학점으로 늘려야 한다고 하였다. 또한 외국인 학생과 한국인 학생들의 작문 강좌를 분리하고 외국인 학생의 경우 학점을 절대평가로 매길 수 있도록 하는 방안을 제안하였다. 국어국문학과 내부에 글쓰기 전문 기관을 설립해서 글쓰기 교육에 대한 전반적인 제도를 정비한다면 보다 체계적인 작문 교육을 할 수 있을 것이다. 마지막으로 교수자의 문제에서는 교수자의 전문성 제고를 위해 박사 과정에서 글쓰기 강의를 위한 교과목을 이수하게 하고 교수자가 된 후에도 전임교원과 시간 강사 사이에 다양한 세미나의 필요성에 대해 제기하였다. 이를 위해 대학 기관인 교수학습지원센터에서 세미나를 진행할 수 있는 장소를 제공하고 제도적 지원을 해야 한다. 또한 교수자가 다양한 교수법 강연을 듣게 해서 글쓰기 및 강의 전반에 대한 전문가를 양성할 수 있는 기틀이 마련되어야 함을 강조했다. 대학에서 배우는 작문 강좌를 통해 단기간에 학생의 글쓰기 능력이 향상되기는 어렵다. 하지만 현대는 글쓰기 능력을 필요로 하는 시대이므로 글쓰기 능력은 대학교 때 반드시 갖추도록 해야 한다. 이를 위해서 개인적인 노력도 필요하겠지만 학교 차원의 제도가 기본적으로 마련되어야 그 기틀 위에서 학생들의 실력을 기를 수 있다. 오늘날 각 대학에서는 학생들의 글쓰기 능력을 향상시키기 위해 의미 있는 노력을 하고 있다. 충남대학교에서도 글로벌 시대의 인재 육성을 위해 보다 실질적인 방안을 강구해야 한다. In this research I stated the problems, suggested solutions of present Korean writing education of university and then proposed specific ways to improve writing skills of university students through the course of Korean Composition I, offered at Chungnam National University. Frist of all, as for the lecture environment, I suggested arranging assistant professors for correction made up of doctoral students for each course. Furthermore, I proposed that school authorities should provide time and space for face-to-face counseling to professors and students and also organize writing lectures for different majors. Secondly, as for the school’s institutional support, I pointed out that step-by-step writing education is necessary, proposed gradual and phased writing programs from freshman to senior. Then I insisted they should increase composition courses from the present 2 to 8 credits in the liberal arts requirement. In addition, I suggested the existent composition courses should be divided for Korean students and foreign students and foreign students should be evaluated based on an absolute grading scale. I expect that if we set up a professional institute for writing education in the department of Korean Language and Literature and arrange the overall system of writing education, we will be able to perform more systematic writing education. Lastly, as for professors, I announced it is necessary that school should have doctoral students take required courses for writing lectures and a variety of workshops held between full-time lectures and part-time lecturers even after giving lectures in order to improve professionality. For this the Center for Teaching and Learning Support, the academic organization, should offer the space for workshops and give institutional support. Also, I emphasized that we need to pave the way to train experts of overall lecturing as well as writing by encouraging professors to take lectures of various teaching methods In fact, it is not easy to improve a student’s writing ability in a short period through a composition lecture at a university. Still, this is an era requiring writing ability, so students must possess the writing ability in college. For this individual effort will be necessary but students could cultivate their ability better when school basically prepares a program for it. Nowadays, every university is making significant efforts to improve students’ writing ability. Chungnam National University should also find more practical ways in order to cultivate human resources in this global era.
