Twelve clinically healthy mongrel dogs were used to clarify the possibility of general analgesia induction by lidocaine aquapuncture to auricular root area in the present study. The experimental animals were devided into control (6 heads) and experimental groups (6 heads), respectively. Physiological salines (3 ml/kg) were injected into both auricular root areas in control group. Lidocaine hydrochlorides (3 ml/kg) were injected into both auricular root areas in experimental group. Superficial pain, the changes of vital signs and blood leukocytes, and PCV were examined on pre, 5 min., 15 min., 30 min, and 60 min. after injection in control and experimental groups, respectively. Analgesia was not detected at all in control group, however, all experimental animals were recumbent and analgesia was generally detected in the auricles, noses, dorsal parts, ventral areas, limbs and tails from 5 to 30 minutes after injection with lidocaine hydrochloride into auricular root areas in experimental group. As for the change of vital signs, body temperature showed decreasing tendency from 5 minutes after lidocaine injection in experimental group. Heart rates and respiration rates were increased on 5 minutes after lidocaine injection and then they showed decreasing tendency in experimental group. No significant difference were found among groups. As for the changes of hematological findings, the numbers of blood leukocytes were increased till 15 minutes after lidocaine injection and then they showed decreasing tendency. PCV values were increased on 5 minutes after lidocaine injection, and then they showed decreasing tendency. However, no significant differences were observed among groups. Considering the above findings, it was thought that general analgesia was possible by aquapuncture with lidocaine hydrochloride into auricular root areas and lidocaine aquapuncture didn’t affect so much to the changes of vital signs and blood.

Forty- nine quarters from 24 lactating cows with chronic mastitis were selected. The cows were raised on dairy farms in Gongju, Jochiwon andYeongi in Chungnam province, and Iksan in Jeonbuk province, Korea. The 49 quarters with bovine mastitis were divided into control (7 quarters) and experimental (42 quarters) groups. The experimental quarters were assigned to experimental group A (10 quarters, somatic cell count: 50-100×104/ml), experimental group B (14 quarters, somatic cells count: 100-300×104/ml), and experimental group C (18 quarters, somatic cells count: >300×104/ml), according to the number of the somatic cells in their milk. The quarters of control group were treated with norfloxacin ointment (10 g/tube) based on the result of sensitivity, twice a day for 3 days. The quarters of experimental groups were infused 10 ml of ozonated oils twice a day for 3 days. After treatment, the milk of the control group contained non-significantly lower numbers of somatic cells and bacteria on day 7, compared with pretreatment levels. Experimental groups A, B and C had lower somatic and bacterial cells in their milk on day 7, compared with pretreatment levels. Experimental groups B and C had significantly lower numbers of somatic cells in their milk on day 7 than before treatment (p<0.01). However, no significant difference in somatic cell numbers was detected between the control and experimental groups. It was concluded that ozone therapy with ozonated oil applied on bovine mastitis might be effective.

The present experiment was performed in order to know the anti-emetic effect of acupuncture, aquapuncture with metoclopramide and moxibustion on the xylazine induced emesis in dogs. The animals were devided into a control group (non-acupoint) and two experimental groups (BL-20 and LIV-13), respectively. Acupuncture, aquapuncture with metoclopramide (1 mg/kg) and moxibustion were applied to animals for 20 minutes before xylazine injection (2.2 mg/kg, IM). In acupuncture group, the emetic rates in BL-20 (16.7%) and LIV-13 (16.7%) were lower than that of control group (50%), respectively. In aquapuncture group, the emetic rates in BL-20 (16.7%) and LIV-13 (0.0%) were lower than that of control group (50%), respectively. In moxibustion group, the emetic rates in BL-20 (50%) and LIV-13 (16.7%) were lower than that of control group (83.3%), respectively. Considering above the findings collectively, it is considered that acupuncture, aquapuncture with metoclopramide and moxibustion at BL-20 and LIV-13 are effective and especially aquapuncture with metoclopramide at LIV-13 is the most effective treatment to prevent the emesis induced by xylazine among groups.

This study was performed to elucidate the effect of acupuncture and aqua-acupuncture in dogs. Each group was divided into control (18 dogs), PC-6 (6 dogs) and BL-21 (6 dogs) group for the antiemetic effect of acupuncture, respectively. And, the animals were divided into control (18 dogs), PC-6 (18 dogs) and BL-21 (18 dogs) group for the antiemetic effect of aqua-acupuncture with metoclopramide, respectively. 2% xylazine was injected to the all dogs to induce the emesis, and acupuncture and aqua-acupuncture treatment (0.5% metoclopramide) were applied to animals for 20 min. before xylazine injection, respectively. Emetic rates in PC-6 (33.3%) and BL-21 (16.7%) were lower than that of control group (44.4%) in acupuncture groups, respectively. Emetic rates in PC-6 (16.7%) and BL-21 (0.0%) were lower than that of control group (38.9%) in aqua-acupuncture groups, respectively. Based on these findings, it was considered that the antiemetic effects of acupuncture and aqua-puncture at BL-21 were more effective than those of PC-6 groups, and aqua-acupuncture with metoclopramide at BL-21 was the most effective among them.

The potential therapeutic effect of ozone gas on bovine mastitis was investigated. Eighteen quarters from 18 lactating cows with chronic mastitis were included. The 18 quarters were assigned to the control group (treatment with antibiotics for 3 days), experimental group I (0.1 ppm ozone treatment, for 7 days) and experimental group II (1 ppm ozone treatment, for 3 days). In experimental group I, milk somatic cell counts were lower on day 7 after ozone treatment, compared to the pretreated counts, but were higher than the control counts. Inexperimental group II, somatic cell counts were significantly decreased (p<0.05) on day 7 compared to the pretreatment counts, and they were lower than the control counts. There were no changes in leukocyte, neutrophil, or lymphocyte numbers, N/L ratios, or serum total protein in the control and experimental groups. We concluded that ozone gas treatment (1 ppm for 3 days) might be effectivefor treatment of bovine mastitis.
