        Determinants of Environmental Pollution in Provincial Areas in China

        Environmental pollution has become an issue in China following rapid economic development, especially in transitioning parts of China. The government has made environmental protection part of the national agenda. A knowledge of what factors affect pollution will help make policy. The relationship between environmental pollution and economic growth has been widely studied. Most studies have tried to explain the relationship between environmental pollution and economic growth in China using just one province or national level data as the target of study. This paper investigated the relationship between urbanization level and air pollution based on province-level panel data over the time period from 2007 to 2014 in China. Two measures of pollution emissions are used in the empirical study: SO2 and soot. Most researchers link the relationship between economic growth and environmental pollution to the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) that indicates an inverted U-shaped relationship. This study investigates the relationship between environmental pollution and development, as well as trade openness, urbanization level, energy consumption, expenditure on environmental protection, secondary industry, and local share of financial revenue by examining data for 30 provinces (covering all mainland province-level administrative units except Tibet) over eight years. The combination of cross-sectional and time series data allows for richer econometric model specifications and more accurate conclusions. The analysis found an inverted U-shaped relationship between economic development and air pollution is strongly verified in the case of SO2, supporting the EKC hypothesis, while soot had a U-shaped relationship. Urbanization level also had opposite relationships, negative for SO2 and positive for soot. Trade openness was associated with decreasing emissions for both pollutants. Electricity consumption was associated with increased emissions. Secondary industry had an unexpected effect of relating to decreased emissions of soot. Environmental expenditure was associated with decreases in both pollutants. Financial resource autonomy had a strong relationship with rising SO2 emissions but not with soot. There appears to be different processes involved in the two pollutants in spite of a number of common sources. The Chinese government at all levels has strong scope for addressing emissions of both pollutants investigated in the study.

        국내 임상시험 전자화 현황과 적용방안

        최근 국내 임상시험의 양적 증가와 더불어, 임상시험 자료를 효율적으로 관리할 수 있는 Electronic Data Capture(EDC) 시스템의 도입 요구가 증가하고 있다. 이에 따라 식품의약품안전청에서는 ‘임상시험 전자자료 처리 및 관리를 위한 가이드라인’을 발표하였다. 이는 향후 국내 임상시험 전자 자료 관리에 관한 법률 제정을 위한 기초가 될 것으로 기대한다. 이 연구에서는 국내 임상시험 관련 기관인 병원과 임상시험 수탁기관(CRO), 그리고 제약회사에서의 EDC 시스템 이용 현황과 관계자들이 인식하는 가이드라인 및 전자 자료 표준의 중요성 및 적용 용이성과 이해도를 조사하였다. 국내 임상시험 관련 기관에서의 EDC 시스템 이용률은 77.6% 이었지만 EDC 시스템을 이용한 임상시험 건수는 5건 미만이 가장 많았다. EDC 시스템은 주로 약물동력학 시험을 하는 phaseⅠ과 임상효과와 안전성을 평가하는 phaseⅡ 임상시험에서 주로 이용되었고, 기관별로는 CRO의 이용률이 가장 높았다. 모든 집단에서 가이드라인의 중요성은 높게 인식하였으나, 적용 용이성 측면에서는 CRO에서 가장 높았다. 또한, 임상시험 전자 자료 표준의 중요성을 높게 인식하였고, 전자 자료 수집에 있어 표준의 필요성을 높게 인식하였다. 그러나 임상시험 전자 자료 국제표준인 Clinical Data Interchange Standard Consortium(CDISC)에 대한 이해도는 아직 낮은 수준이었다. 이 연구 결과는 국내 임상시험 전자화를 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있으며 임상시험 자료 표준에 관한 정책수립에도 활용될 수 있을 것이다. As the number of clinical trials conducted in Korea increases, the need of the Electronic Data Capture (EDC) system for effective clinical data management is also increased. Recently, the Korea Food and Drug Association published ‘Guideline for the Electronic Clinical Trial Data Management and Processing’ and it would be the foundation for establishing regulation of electronic clinical data management. In this research, we conducted the survey regarding adoption rate of EDC system in clinical trials in hospitals, Contract Research Organizations (CRO), and pharmaceutical companies. And the perceived importance and the ease of application for the Guideline were investigated. The adoption rates of EDC system was 77.6% but it mostly applied to less than five trials. Also EDC system was mostly used in phaseⅠ and phaseⅡ trials and the utilization rate of CRO was the highest. The perceived importance for the Guideline was high among all three organizations but, in case of the perceived ease of its application, CRO was the highest. Also, the perceived importance of the clinical data standard was high and the standard for data collection was mostly required. However, the comprehension for the global standard of the electronic data was relatively low, so that education is required. This result would be the foundation to increase the electronic clinical trials and develop proper regulation and principles for clinical data standards in Korea.

        스마트폰 헬스케어 애플리케이션 수용을 위한 주요 영향요인

        최근 스마트폰 사용자가 증가됨에 따라 스마트폰에 관한 다양한 연구들이 진행되고 있다. 본 연구는 스마트폰의 주요 특징 중 하나인 애플리케이션, 특히 헬스케어 애플리케이션 수용에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 기존의 기술수용모형과 혁신확신이론 연구를 분석하여 헬스케어 애플리케이션 수용에 영향을 줄 것으로 판단되는 변수를 선정하고 연구 모형을 개발하였다. 연구 모형 검증을 위해 수도권 지역의 성인 220명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 설문결과를 이용하여 인구통계학적 특성 및 헬스 케어 애플리케이션 사용 특성에 따른 사용의도 차이를 분석하였다. 또한 애플리케이션 사용자 집단과 비 사용자 집단을 나누어 영향변수를 비교한 결과 자기효능감과 개인의 혁신정도와 같은 개인적 성향 변수들에 있어 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이 결과는 사용하기 쉬운 시스템을 기반으로 얼리어답터의 흥미를 유발할 수 있는 새롭고 유용한 건강 콘텐츠를 제공하는 것이 헬스케어 애플리케이션 확산에 도움이 될 것임을 보여준다. With increasing of smartphone users various smartphone studies have been carried out. The purpose of this paper is to examine the factors influencing the usage intention of smartphone healthcare application. The influencing factors found from literature reviews on Technology Acceptance Model and the diffusion of innovations theory are user interface design, self-efficacy, innovativeness, and entertainment. Survey is conducted to 220 people in Seoul metropolitan area. The survey results are analyzed regarding the difference for the intention of healthcare application in accordance with respondents’ demographic and application usage characteristics. We also examine the difference among four influencing factors by users and non-users. As a result there are significant differences in self-efficacy and innovativeness. This gives some implications to application developers: the system should be easy to use and provide new and useful health contents that can attract early-adopters’ attention in order to increase the number of application users.

        의약품 자발적 부작용 보고자료의 통계처리 시스템

        Background: Spontaneous adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting data has been used for safety of post-market drug surveillance. A system has been required that is able to detect signals associated with drugs by analyzing the collected ADR data. Methods: We developed the web-based automated analysis system (ADR-detector). We used the data which reported ADR spontaneously between March 2009 and December 2010 to Korean Food and Drug Administration. We used 3 statistical indicators for evaluating ADR signals: proportional reporting ratio (PRR), reporting odds ratio (ROR), and information component (IC). The ADR reports which were detected as significant signals based on the indicators have been reviewed. Results: Among 153,774 reports, 9,955 cases were related to 4 analgesics which were most frequently reported analgesic drugs during the study period. The numbers of ADR reports associated with each drug are as follow: 5,623 reports in tramadol (56.5 %), 1,720 reports in fentanyl (17.3 %), 1,463 reports in tramadol-combination (14.7 %), and 1,149 reports in ketorolac (11.5 %). Top 5 ADR were nausea (3,351 reports – 33.7 %), vomiting (1,755 reports – 17.6 %), dizziness (1,130 – 11.4 %), rash (412 reports – 4.1 %), and pruritus (354 reports – 3.6 %). 6,674 ADR reports were significant based on PRR and ROR, and 336 reports were significant based on IC. Conclusion: By using the automated analysis system, not only statisticians but also general researchers are able to analyze ADR signals in real-time. Also ADR-detector would provide rapid review and cross-check of ADR.
