이 논문은 김산과 님 웨일즈의 공저『아리랑』에 대한 문학적 고찰을 목적으로 한다. 김산에 관련된 사항은 여러 연구자들의 의해 그 삶이 정리되었다. 그러나 『아리랑』을 문학작품의 대상으로 전제하고 연구한 것은 아직 찾기가 어렵다. 가장 큰 이유는 김산의 인생과 그가 풀어내는 역사적 사상(事象)들의 무게감이었다. 남과 북에서도 철저하게 외면 받고 있었던 당시의 상황을 풀어내기 위해서는 역사적 연구가 선행되어야 했기 때문이다. 이에『아리랑』에 대한 문학적 연구는 자연스럽게 연구의 뒷전으로 밀리게 되었다. 본고에서는 3.1운동을 통해 무장투쟁 이외에 다른 길이 없음을 인식하는 서술 주체의 관점에 주목하였다. 이러한 인식론적 전환은 일곱 살 때의 기억에서 시작된다. 단지 예방주사를 맞지 않았다는 이유만으로 일본 순사 두 명이 김산의 어머니를 구타한 사건이 있었다. 아들의 입장에서 어머니를 무참하게 구타하는 일제 순사는 트라우마로 자리 잡았다. 즉 항일의 정체성은 조선의 독립이다. 이것을 구현해 가는 과정이 무장투쟁임을 어렸을 적부터 깨달은 것이다. 또한 『아리랑』은 김산의 삶에 영향을 준 인물들의 평(評)을 통해서 그의 문학적 소양과 관찰의 감식력을 확인할 수 있었다. 짧은 인생을 마감하기까지 김산은 역사적 사상들을 개인화시켰으며 그것을 직접 행동으로 실천한 인물이다. 우리는 좌우의 이데올로기가 아니 조선의 진정한 독립이란 대명제 앞에서 김산은 다시금 소환되어야 할 존재인 것이다. This paper aims at a literary review of Nym Wales and Kim San’s The Song of Ariran. Several researchers summarized Kim’s life. However, it is difficult to find The Song of Ariran as a subject of literature. The biggest reason was Kim"s life and historical weight. Historical research had to be preceded in order to solve the situation that had been thoroughly ignored in both South and North Korea. The Independent Movement Day realized that there was no other way besides the armed struggle. At the age of seven, there were two cases in which a Japanese sergeant beat his mother just because she had not been vaccinated. From the perspective of his son, the Japanese imperialism, which was battered by his mother, was established as a trauma. The identity of anti-Japanese is the independence of Joseon. Kim San has realized that the process of realizing independence is armed conflict. Also, through the evaluation of the people who influenced Kim"s life, we confirmed Kim"s understanding of literary literacy and observation. Until his short life is over, Kim San has personalized historical ideas and practiced them in direct action. We are not ideologies of the right and left, but Kim San is to be recalled before the proposition of true independence of Joseon.
