        차 종자 저장 및 파종 처리가 차 종자발아에 미치는 영향

        The study was conducted to obtain fundamental data related to efficient increase of the seedling population aiming to establish an efficient cross breeding system for tea plants. Several parameters affecting seed germination, such as germination temperature, chilling duration, seed coat treatment, imbibition duration, and storage method, were evaluated. Of germination temperature, the highest germination percentages were obtained at 25℃ for all three varieties of Saemidori, Topyung, and Okumidori. Chilling duration of 50, 63, and 75 days had higher germination percentages and speeds of germination than those of 38 days in both varieties of Saemidori and Okumidori. Final germination percentage by seed coat removal in Topyung dried naturally showed 64 %, much higher than those by partial seed coat crack and control, and that for Saemidori, 83.3%, higher than 47.5% for control. Imbibition duration of 2, 3, and 4 days in Yabukita and those of 3 and 4 days in Okumidori showed higher germination percentages than the others. Wetness of seed storage method indicated higher germination percentage than dryness in Yabukita, however there were no differences in germination percentages of Topyung and Okumidori by storage method. On the other hand, speed of germination was higher at wetness for all three varieties in accordance with increase of seed fresh weight.

        양잿물 음독 후 생긴 위${\cdot}$식도 천공으로 사망한 환자 1례

        The caustic drugs are classified into acid and alkali. Oral intake of these drugs cause histological injuries to the surfaces of oral cavity, laryngopharynx, and esophagus. Caustic drugs such as detergents and brilliants are easily contacted at homes. However, until now, the epidemiology and the clinical statistics of caustic drug ingestion in Korea were not carried out. This is a case report of sodium hydroxide - lye, a caustic drug more toxic than the others - ingestion with complication of gastroesophageal perforation, rapidly progressed mediastinitis and prompt death in the course of treatment.

        Linkage Analysis of the Three Loci Determining Rind Color and Stripe Pattern in Watermelon

        The rind phenotype of watermelon fruits is an important agronomic characteristic in the watermelon market. Inheritance and linkage analyses were performed for three rind-related traits that together determine the rind phenotype: foreground stripe pattern, rind background color, and depth of rind color. The inheritance of the foreground stripe pattern was analyzed using three different F2 populations, showing that the striped pattern is dominant over the non-striped pattern. The inheritance analysis of the rind background color was performed using F2 populations of the ‘10909’ and ‘109905’, and the depth of rind color was analyzed using F2 populations of the ‘90509’ and ‘109905’. Yellow color was found to be dominant over green color, and a deep color was dominant over the standard color. Linkage analysis of the three traits was conducted using three F2 populations in which two traits were segregating. Each pair of traits was inherited independently, which demonstrated that the three traits are not linked. Therefore, we propose a three-locus model for the determination of rind phenotype, providing novel insight that rind phenotype is determined by the combination of three genetically independent loci.

        심정지로 응급실에 내원한 부정맥야기성 우심실이형성/심근병증 1례

        Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia/cardiomyopathy (ARVD/C) is a heart muscle disorder characterized by patch replacement of right ventricular myocardium by adipose and fibrous tissue and by electrical instability of the right ventricular myocardium. ARVD/C is rare in South Korea but is an important cause of cardiac arrest in young patients. The clinical manifestations of ARVD/C vary from sudden cardiac death of previously asymptomatic patients to chronic symptoms in patients with recurrent palpitations and/or right or biventricular failure. Diagnosis is based on several major and minor criteria involving structural, histologic, eletrocardiographic, arrhythmic, and genetic factors. Therapy is directed to prevent and/or treat malignant vetricular tachyarrhythmias with medications, implantable cadioverter defibrillator, radiofrequency ablation, and surgery in selected cases. We experienced a case of ARVD/C with ventricular fibrilltion in the emergency department. The electrocardiography of postresuscitation showed QRS prolongation and inversion of T waves in the right precordial leads. Echocardiography revealed a dilated right atrium and right ventricle, and right ventricular dysfunction. Multislice computed tomography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging showed multifocal fat infiltration involving right ventricular myocardium, right ventricular trabeulae, and the right ventricular side of the ventricular septum with dilatation of the right ventricle and right ventricular outflow tract and abundant epicardial fat. An implantable cardioverter defibrillator was implanted, and the patient was transferred to another hospital.

        Immature ganglion cell (IGC) is known for its relationship with intestinal motility and its impact on postoperative functional outcomes of Hirschsprung's disease (HD). There are few studies on the relationship between intestinal dysmotility and IGC in HD patients. 67 patients pathologically diagnosed with HD and who received definitive operation in Seoul National University Children's Hospital from 2010 to 2011 were included. 10 patients were excluded due to inadequate immunohistochemical staining results. The proximal end of resected ganglionic segment was evaluated with immunohistochemistry examination with MAP-2, a marker of ganglionic cells and bcl-2, a marker of IGCs The median age at operation was 155 (15-4678) day-old. 55 (96.5%) patients positive for bcl-2, were regarded as having IGC, and 2 (3.5%) patients positive for MAP-2 but negative for bcl-2, were regarded as having only mature ganglion cells. In the bcl-2 positive group, there were 7 patients (12.7%) with constipation, 15 patients (27.3%) with soiling, 3 patients (5.5%) with perianal excoriation and 6 patients (10.9%) with medication use. In bcl-2 negative group, intestinal dysmotility was not seen. There was no statistical significance in the two groups. Considering that HD is diagnosed at a young age, the rate of IGC present is very high and it might be inappropriate to relate IGC to functional outcome at young ages.

        Pediatric Adenocarcinoma in Korea: A Multicenter Study

        Purpose Adenocarcinoma is an extremely rare malignancy in the pediatric population. Research regarding pediatric adenocarcinoma is very rare in Korea. This study aimed to investigate the clinical features of pediatric adenocarcinomas of various primary organ sites in Korea. Materials and Methods Pediatric patients under 18 years, diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of various sites between January 1995 and December 2016, were included. We retrospectively reviewed patient and tumor characteristics and calculated survival estimates, reported as 5-year survival rate and 95% confidence interval. Results Of 80 patients (median age, 15 years; range, 10 to 17 years), 37 (46.3%) were men, and 24 (30%) had a family history of cancer or underlying disease relevant to malignancy. The cancer locations were the colon and rectum (n=32), ovaries (n=18), stomach (n=15), lung (n=4), small bowel (n=1), and other sites (n=10). Totally, 54.8% patients (42/77) had stage 3 or 4 disease. The median follow-up period was 2.0 years (range, 0 to 20.4). The 5-year overall survival estimate for all patients, and for those with stomach, colorectal, ovarian, and other cancer sites were 57.9%±11.5%, 58.2%±25.7%, 41.5%±18.2%, 87.5%±16.2%, and 64.0%±34.4%, respectively. The 5-year survival rate differed significantly between categories of adenocarcinomas into gastrointestinal (GI) (44.7%) and non-GI adenocarcinomas (78.8%) (p=0.007). The 5-year survival rate also differed significantly according to carcinoembryonic antigen level (69.3% in < 3 ng/mL, 23.8% in > 3 ng/mL; p < 0.001). Conclusion In pediatric patients, adenocarcinomas arise from various organs and are often diagnosed at advanced stages. Large, prospective studies for their accurate clinical characteristics and prognostic factors are needed.

        차나무 인공교배에 의한 수정 및 종자 형성

        차에서 효율적인 교배육종 시스템을 확립코자 몇 가지 교배조합에서의 연차 간 결실율과 종자 형성율을 평가하였다. 10% 자당, 2% 한천, pH 5.6의 화분 발아 배지에서의 화분 발아 검정은 인공교배에 이용한 화분의 활력이 정상적이었음을 나타냈다. 인공교배 3일 후 이내에 화분관은 화주를 통해 자방의 상단을 침입하는 것으로 나타났다. 교배조합에 따른 결실율은 3.7~57.7%, 열매 당 종자 수는 1.4~3.0 개 내외를 나타냈다. 연차 간 변이에 있어서 열매 당 종자 수의 변이는 미미했고, 결실율의 변이는 다소 크게 나타났다. 자방은 3개의 심실로 구성되고 심실 당 4개의 배주가 위치하여 총 12개 배주가 형성됨을 확인하였다. Aiming to establish an efficient conventional breeding system in tea (Camellia sinensis), fruit set and seed formation with seasonal variation were evaluated at some cross combinations. The pollen germination test was conducted on a medium consisting of 10% sucrose, 2% agar, pH 5.6 and the result indicated that pollens used in artificial pollination had normal germination activity. Pollen tubes penetrated through style into ovary within 3 days after artificial pollination. Fruit set was ranged at 3.7~57.7% and average number of seeds per fruit was varied at 1.4~3.0. Amount of variation was little at average number of seeds per fruit, but much high at fruit set. Morphological analysis determined that one ovary had three carpels and 12 ovules, including 4 ovules a one carpel, respectively.

        In this study, we aim to gain a more detailed understanding of particle spin using the tools of quantum field theory. Firstly, we delve into the fine structure of the hydrogen atom, investigating the discrepancies between the energy levels predicted by the Schrödinger equation and experimental results. These variations are attributed to various interactions, including relativistic effects and spin-orbit coupling. Our emphasis lies particularly on the impact of spin-orbit coupling, exploring the influence of the interaction between the electron's spin, manifested as a magnetic dipole moment, and the potential of the atomic nucleus on energy level changes. Secondly, we focus on the classification of particles into fermions or bosons based on whether their spin is a integer or a half-integer. As each classification leads to different exchange behaviors of particles, we investigate their responses accordingly and derive the spin-statistic theorem.

        차 종자 저장 및 파종 처리가 종자의 발아에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 차나무 교배육종 기술체계를 확립할 목적으로 차나무 교배 실생의 획득률을 높일 수 있는 기초 자료를 얻고자 수행하였으며, 차나무에서 채종된 종자의 발아온도, 저온처리 기간, 종피 처리, 침윤 기간, 저장 방법 등 몇 가지 요인이 차 종자 발아에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 발아온도는 Saemidori, Topyung 및 Okumidori 3품종 모두 25℃에서 발아율이 가장 높게 나타났다. 그리고 저온처리의 영향은 Saemidori와 Okumidori 두 품종 종자 모두 저온처리 기간 50일, 63일, 75일이 38일보다 발아율과 발아속도가 높게 나타났다. 자연 건조된 Topyung 종자의 경우 종피 제거처리가 발아율이 64%로 종피 부분적 파쇄와 무 처리구보다 훨씬 높았고 Saemidori 종자의 종피 제거 처리구의 최종 발아율은 83.3%로 무 처리구의 47.5%보다 높게 나타났다. 침윤 처리 실험에서 Yabukita 종자의 최종 발아율은 침윤 2, 3, 4일 후 파종된 종자가 높았고 Okumidori 종자는 침지 3, 4일 후 파종된 종자가 높았다. 종자 보관 방법에 있어서 Yabukita 종자는 습윤 보관이 건조 보관한 종자보다 발아율이 높았고 Topyung, Okumidori 종자는 두 처리구들 간에 차이가 없었다. 발아속도는 3품종의 종자에서 모두 습윤 보관의 경우 높게 나타났고 종자 생체중이 증가되었다.
