제주 전통문화의 전승교육 실태와 지도 방안 : 제주도내 초등학교를 중심으로

본 연구는 제주도내의 초등학교에서 이루어지고 있는 제주의 전통문화 전승교육에 대한 실태를 파악하고 교사들의 의견을 종합함으로써 초등학교에서 필요한 교육의 내용과 지도 방안을 모색하는 데에 목적이 있다. 전통문화 가운데에서 제주 방언, 공동벌초, 수눌음, 삼무정신과 자냥정신, 그밖의 영역 등 5개 영역을 선정하여 초등학교 교사 324명을 대상으로 교육실태와 지도방법을 조사하였다. 자료는 전산 처리하였으며 이연구에 사용된 통계치는 백분비(%)와 χ²검증이다. 조사연구 결과 초등학교에서 제주 전통문화의 전승교육 실태와 교사들의 의견에 따라 다음과 같이 다섯 가지의 지도 방안이 필요할 것으로 요약, 정리된다. 첫째, 제주 방언의 사용이 줄어들고 있는 추세에 비추어 학교에서 제주 방언을 쓸 수 있도록 하는 분위기를 조성하는 것이 좋을 것으로 보아지며, 의도적으로 제주 방언을 사용하는 기회를 마련해 주는 일도 바람직할 것으로 여겨진다. 둘째, 제주도에서 음력 초하루에 친척들이 함께 하는 공동벌초의 풍습은 이어나갈 가치가 있다고 보아지며, 초등학생들에게도 벌초방학의 기회를 통하여 조상에 대한 내력을 알고 그 뿌리를 찾도록 하며, 고마움을 느끼고 조상을 섬기도록 하는 계기교육이 이루어져야 할 것으로 생각된다. 셋째, 현재도 농촌에서는 수눌어서 일을 하는 경우가 많은데, 오늘날에도 이어나갈 만한 놓은 풍습이라 여겨진다. 학생들에게 그 내용을 생생하게 이해할 수 있도록 자료를 마련하여 지도하고 그 정신을 살려 협동의 장면을 설정하여 실습을 통해 지도함이 바람직할 것으로 보아진다. 넷째, 가치관 관련 내용으로, 오늘날의 현실에서 도둑과 거지는 늘어나는 추세이고 도시 지역에서 대문 없는 집이란 상상할 수도 없을 만큼 상황이 달라지기는 하였으나, '삼무정신'은 제주도민의 자랑스러운 정신으로서 제주도 문화의 모든 측면에 스며있는 기본 정신이라 할 수 있을 것이다. '삼무'를 계승하자는 것보다는 '삼무정신'을 계승하는 데에 중점을 두어 교육활동이 이루어져야 할 것으로 생각된다. 자냥정신은 제주도를 대표할 만한 좋은 정신이라 볼 수 있다. 물질적 풍요 속에서 초등학생들의 생활 속에서도 과소비, 낭비 풍조를 볼 수가 있다. 오늘 넉넉하다 할지라도 내일 닥쳐올지도 모를 어려움에 대비하는 마음가짐을 갖도록 지도함이 필요할 것으로 생각된다. '자냥'으로만 그칠 것이 아니라 아껴쓰고 모은 재화는 불우한 처지에 있는 사람을 도울 줄 아는 마음도 갖도록 하는 발전적인 방향으로의 지도가 바람직할 것으로 생각된다. 다섯째, 그 밖에 전통문화의 전반적인 내용으로, 제주도의 전통문화 전승교육과 관련하여 현장학습이 활발히 이루어져야 하겠으며, 앞으로 필요한 시설로는 제주 고유의 놀이 시설, 제주 방언실, 민속놀이 기구 시설, 제주 민요실, 효도교육 시설, 농업박물관, 옛날 서당의 모습, 어업 박물관 등으로 판단된다. 클럽활동, 특기·적성 교육활동, 학급활동, 운동회, 수풍 때에 제주도의 전통문화와 관련된 교육활동의 전개가 필요하며, '민속의 날' 등을 정하여 민속행사 활동을 추진하고 제주도의 민요도 지속적으로 지도되어야 할 것으로 판단된다. 초등학교에서 제주도의 전통문화 전승교육은 꼭 필요하며 먼저 그 속에 담긴 정신을 이해하도록 하는 일이 선행되어야 할 것으로 생각된다. 교과와 관련하여 깊이 있게 다루고 특설단원의 설정 지도, 특별활동, 특기·적성교육활동에도 연관시키며 생활 장면 속에서 지도함이 바람직할 것으로 보아진다. 인성교육이 강조되고 있는 시점에서 제주도의 전통문화와 관련된 인성 교육 내용과 방안이 마련되어 체계화된다면 제주도의 지역적 특수성을 살리면서 교육적 효과를 높일 수 있을 것으로 전망된다. The purpose of this study consists in not only grasping the educational realities of transmission of Cheju traditional culture which relate to the the elementary schools of Cheju-do but also searching for content of education of Cheju traditional culture's transmission and its guidance methods which would be desired in the elementary schools of Cheju-do by taking the teachers' opinions into consideration. Among the data for research of Cheju traditional culture, five spheres such as 'Cheju dialect', 'collective mowing around a grave', 'Soonuroom spirit', 'Sammuh spirit and Zonyang spirit', and 'the other sphere' are selected to be analyzed by asking 324 teachers of the elementary schools the educational realities of transmission of Cheju traditional culture and its guidance methods. The data of the spheres are processed by computers and the statistics of this study are verified by percentage and X². The guidance methods on the basis of the results shown in this study are as follows. First, because the frequency of using Cheju dialect are tending downwards, it is desirable that the atmosphere of freedom is needed to be created in which the students are able to use Cheju dialect and that many chances should be given to them so that they are able to take every opportunity of speaking Cheju dialect. Secondly, the custom of collective mowing around a grave on the 1st day of the 8th month of lunar calendar in Cheju-do need to be well transmitted from generation to generation. The elementary school students need to trace their family origin, know about their ancestors, give thanks to them and serve them through the experience of collective mowing around a grave. Thirdly, the farmers of Cheju-do have put working in turn for one another, which is called Soonuroom in Cheju dialect. It is desirable that the students need to understand Soonuroom spirit with assistance of learning materials of Soonuroom. By producing learning materials of Soonuroom and establishing concrete situations of cooperation, it is desirable that the students are able to work in turn for one another not only on the basis of Soonuroom spirit but also on the basis of practicing Soonuroom in Cheju-do. Fourthly, with the analysis of views of value, 'Sammu spirit' and 'Zonyang spirit' that the people of Cheju-do are proud of are worthy of transmission from generation to generation. In consideration of the fact that life environment of the present is much different than that of the past, it is not easy to think of a society without thieves and beggars, or of a house without the front door. 'Sammuh spirit' which stands for absence of thieves, absence of beggars, and absence of the front gate is said to be the fundamental of Cheju traditional culture. So, the educational activities should be focused rather into transmission of 'Sammuh spirit' than into transmission of 'Sammuh '. The elementary school students tend to waste goods above their means. The students need to learn not only how to save up for a rainy day by putting Zonyang spirit which stands for thrift into practice but also how to help the poor and needy by giving them the good guidance of advanced Zonyang spirit. Fifthly, on-the-spot learning and establishment of Folklore Day to support many different folklore activities are necessary to education of Cheju traditional culture's trarnsmission. In order to guarantee vigorous on-the-spot learning, the educational facilities that should be improved and established are as follows: game facilities peculiar to Cheju traditional culture, study rooms of Cheju dialect, tools and facilities for playing folk games, study rooms of Cheju folk songs worthy of continuous guidance, educational facilities of filial piety, the museum of agriculture, the museum of fishery , schoolhouses that resembles old village schoolhouses of the study of Chinese Classics, etc. Also, the development of educational activities that relate to the traditional culture of Cheju-do would be necessary even in the course of club activities, educational activities of aptitude and capability, class activities, the athletic meeting, or a school excursion. Therefore, understaning the educational spirit of traditional culture of Cheju-do is necessary for education of Cheju traditional culture's transmission in elementary schools. Education of the transmission of Cheju traditional culture should be carried out according to the relevent contents of subject, various school activities, and real living circumstances. The contents and methods of systematic humanity education are necessary for strengthening the educational effect and the regional peculiarity of Cheju-do
