영어권 한국계 한국어 학습자가 범한 철자 오류의 유형적 특징

연구는 영어권 대학의 한국계 중급 한국어 학습자(288명)가 범한 철자 오류 유형을 알아보고자 학습자 말뭉치에 기반한 오류 분석을 하였고, 이를 통해 고빈도, 고오류율의 오류 유형을 파악하고 오류 원인과 그에 따른 교육적 시사점을 논의한다. 총 2,815개의 철자 오류에서 자모음 발음의 유사성과 자음 변화에 따른 철자 오류가 주요 오류 형태인 것으로 나타났다. 자료 분석결과, 한국계 한국어 학습자들은 언어 간 음소의 불일치로 인한 오류 발생 등 면에서 비한국계 한국어 학습자들과 비슷한 양상을 보였으나, 형태음소론적 지식의 부족으로 인한 음소 표시 및 구어체적 전이 또한 오류의 주요 원인으로 파악되어 청소년 한국어 모국어 화자들이 범하는 오류와도 비슷한 양상을 보였다. 이에 대해 본 연구는 오류를 범하는 개별음절이나 단어보다는 맞춤법 규범과 동음이의에 초점을 맞춘 차별화된교육 방법의 필요성을 제의한다. This paper examines orthographic errors produced by 288 tertiary intermediate learners of Korean as a Heritage Language (KHL) from English-L1 countries by identifying high frequency and high occurrence rate error items through a corpus-based error analysis of their written compositions, and discusses some pedagogical implications based on their cause. From the 2,815 orthographic errors identified, errors in vowels due to sound similarity, and consonants due to sound alteration and sound similarity were identified as the main patterns of KHL learner errors. The results of the study suggest that KHL learners resemble KFL learners in interlingual aspects such as difficulty due to one-to-one incorrespondence in Korean and English sounds, but also resemble young native Korean speakers’ errors which mainly occur due to phonemic transcription attributable to learners’ lack of morphophonemic knowledge and colloquial transfer. The study suggests a need for differentiated teaching methods for KHL learners that focus on orthographic conventions and homonyms rather than individual syllables or words of high frequency errors.
