Copper complexes have been directly incorporated into cellulose acetate (CA) and the resulting light blue colored homogeneous films of 5-20 wt.% copper acetate complex concentrations are found to be thermally stable up to 200 °C. The reaction chemistry of Cu in CA has been investigated by reacting them with small gas molecules such as CO, H2, D2, O2, NO, and olefins in the temperature range of 25-160 °C, and various Cuhydride, -carbonyl, -nitrosyl, and olefin species coordinated to Cu sites in CA are characterized by IR and UV/ Vis spectroscopic study. The reduction of Cu(II) complexes by reacting with H2 gas at the described conditions results in the formation of Cu2O and copper metal nanoparticles in CA, and their sizes in 30-120 nm range are found to be controlled by adjusting metal complex concentration in CA and/or the reduction reaction conditions. These small copper metal particles show various catalytic reactivity in hydrogenation of olefins and CH3CN; CO oxidation; and NO reduction reactions under relatively mild conditions.

Iron complexes have been incorporated into cellulose acetate (CA) films as a dispersion medium using tetrahydrofubran(THF). The resulting light brown-colored homogeneous films of 10∼30 wt.% Fe metal complex concentration are found to be thermally stable up to 150℃ and the relatively electron rich oxygen atoms of acyl groups in cellulose acetate(CA) molecules are assumed to interact with Fe complexes on the basis of their infrared spectroscopic and thermal analysis. The reaction chemistry of Fe in CA has been investigated by reacting Fe sites with small gaseous molecules such as CO, H2, O2, NO and olefins in the temperature range of 25∼150℃. Various Fe-carbonyls, -hydride, -nitrosyl and -dioxygen species formed in CA films are characterized by infrared spectroscopy. The treatment of Fe-containing CA film with H2 gas at 120℃ produces small Fe metal particles of about 20∼120Å in diameter in CA, which showed various catalytic reactivity such as CO oxidation, NO reduction, and hydrogenation of olefins.

The catalytic performance of transition metal (Fe or Cu2+) containing nano-sized hollow core mesoporous shell carbon (HCMSC) heterogeneous catalysts for the hydroxylation of phenol with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in water was investigated in a batch reactor. The metal-containing HCMSC catalyst showed higher activity than the same metal ion-exchanged zeolites. The nature of the metal and its content in the HCMSC had remarkable influence on the reaction results under the typical reaction conditions (PhOH/H2O2=3, reaction temperature=60 oC). Fe2+ containing HCMSC catalyst showed high catalytic activity with phenol conversion of 29%, selectivity to catechol (CAT) and hydroquinone (HQ) about 85%, H2O2 effective conversion about 70% and selectivity to benzoquinone (BQ) below 1% in the batch system.

Colloidal cadmium telluride (CdTe) quantum dots (QDs) and their nanoparticles have been synthesized by one pot sonochemical reactions under multibubble sonoluminescence (MBSL) conditions, which are quite mild and facile compared to other typical high temperature solution-based methods. For a typical reaction, CdCl2 and tellurium powder with hexadecylamine and trioctylphosphine/trioctylphosphineoxide (TOP/TOPO) as a dispersant were sonicated in toluene solvent at 20 KHz and a power of 220W for 5-40 min at 60 ^oC. The sizes of CdTe particles, in a very wide size range from 2 nm-30 μm, were controllable by varying the sonicating and thermal heating conditions. The prepared CdTe QDs show different colors from pale yellow to dark brown and corresponding photoluminescence properties due mainly to the quantum confinement effect. The CdTe nanoparticles of about 20 nm in average were found to have band gap of 1.53 eV, which is the most optimally matched band gap to solar spectrum.

The effect of excess Bi contents on the ferroelectric properties of B $i_{3.25}$ L $a_{0.75}$ $Ti_3$ $O_{12}$ (BLT) thin films has been investigated. Bismuth lanthanum titanate thin films with excess Bi contents were prepared onto Pt/Ti/ $SiO_2$/Si substrate by metalorganic decomposition (MOD) technique. The structure and morphology of the films were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM), respectively. From the XRD analysis, BLT thin films show polycrystalline structure and the layered-perovskite phase was obtained over 10% excess of Bi contents. As a result of ferroelectric characteristics related to the Bi content of the BLT thin film, the remanent polarization and dielectric constant decreased with increasing over Bi content of 10% excess. The BLT film with Bi content of 10% excess was measured to have a dielectric constant of 326 and dielectric loss of 0.024. The BLT thin films showed little polarization fatigue test up to 3.5$\times$10$^{9}$ bipolar switching cycling.

This study carried out to understand thermoluminescence dating of ancient tiles at Jinju Janghungri Kilin site. Also radiocarbon dating by the benzene synthesis method and Liquid scintillation counting method were performed for comparison for the agedetermination of charcoal sample at the obtained same site.1st and 2nd glow curve were obtained according to the typical method thermoluminescence. Plateau tests of revealed the proper temperature range to be $300~440^{\circ}C$ Palaeodose average values were formed to the 2.44Gy.Annual dose of ancient tiles was calculated from soil samples and ancient tiles it self by measuring alpha radiation dose, potassium concentrations and water contents respectively. Annual dose average values were calculated to be 7.012mGy/yr.The radiocarbon age(BP year) was converted to calibrated age(AD/BC year) using high precision curve. Radiocarbon ages were calculated to be AD 15~17 .Comparison of samples with their radiocarbon and thermoluminescence ages for revealed the in range the AD 15~17. This result means that the measured absolute ages are in good agreement with each other within the margin of error.
