Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of tie strength in the network of industrial clustering on the knowledge acquisition, integration and innovation performance of small and medium sized enterprises. We test the positive relationship of weak tie and knowledge acquisition, strong tie and knowledge integration, and the interaction effect of two tie strengths on both processes of knowledge acquisition and integration. By identifying these relationships, we can better understand how to manage the attributes of social networks in terms of tie strength in order to improve the performance of innovation for the small and medium sized enterprises. Design/methodology/approach We collect 200 survey data from 2 industrial cluster respectively: Pankyo and Guroo. In Pankyo, the proportion of IT industry is the highest (35%) while the proportion of manufacturing is highest (35%) in Guroo. Pooling the data from two industrial cluster, we check the reliability and validity of our research model and test the hypotheses. Findings First, we find the positive relationship of weak tie and knowledge acquisition from both industrial clustering. Weak tie is composed of heterogeneous organizations with various background and expertise. The communication and information sharing of organizations in the weak tie network helps the idea generation for organization’s innovation, which is the knowledge acquisition process. Second, the relationship of strong tie and knowledge integration is insignificant. Typically the strong tie from long-lasting partnership is expected to be beneficial in the action stage of innovation, which is the knowledge integration process. However it is not identified in our industry cluster. Finally, the interaction effect of weak and strong tie is identified to be effective on both knowledge acquisition and integration processes.
Pre and Post Evaluations on IT Platform Migration to Open Systems

IT platform migration to open systems (IPMO) bears a great deal of risk over all the associated processes, in terms of a major IT investment. Hence it requires empirical data and references for decision making. Although there have been a number of published papers encouraging or discouraging IPMO, the studies that deliver useful empirical evidence for IPMO decisions are rare. The obvious first step to resolve this problem would be to gain lessons from the organizations who experienced IPMO. Based on the Delphi study, we examine both the pre and post evaluations on IPMO benefits and risks and analyze the underlying reasons of different evaluations from different stages. Our results identify the most important factor the organizations should seriously consider, and which factor is easy to neglect at the ex-ante appraisal stage.
An Exploratory Study on the New Product Demand Curve Estimation Using Online Auction Data

As the importance of time-based competition is increasing, information systems for supporting the immediate decision making is strongly required. Especially high-tech product firms are under extreme pressure of rapid response to the demand side due to relatively short life cycle of the product. Therefore, the objective of our research is proposing a framework of estimating demand curve based on e-auction data, which is extremely easy to access and well reflect the limited demand curve in that channel. Firstly, we identify the advantages of using e-auction data for full demand curve estimation and then verify it using Agent-Based-Modeling and Tobins censored regression model.

This paper examines the Optophone invented by the Dadaist Raoul Hausmann in 1922. The Optophone is an apparatus designed to transform sound signals into light signals, and vice versa. Having gone through the devastation of the WWI and the drastic changes in Weimar Germany, Hausmann turned away from traditional art and intended to produce a new art by embracing modern technology. Being aware of the limits of the human body and senses, Hausmann aimed to overcome these limits with the aid of advanced technology. His theory of the Optophone is twofold. First, its intention is the union of machine and art. Second, it effectuates the extension of senses with machine art. Claiming the need for a new art allied with technology, Hausmann believed that new art would contribute to the birth of a 'New Man' who would lead social changes. By invoking the interaction between senses with technological aids, Hausmann wanted to maximize artistic experiences. The Optophone alludes to his pioneering vision to overcome the limits of human senses, thereby broadening our views to perceive the world. This paper intends to excavate the Optophone as a media archaeological site, from which contemporary art experiments across media are yet to draw inspiration. 본 연구는 다다 작가 라울 하우스만이 1922년에 발명한 옵토폰에 주목한다. 옵토폰은 소리의 신호를 빛의 신호로 변환하거나, 빛의 신호를 소리의 신호로 변환하는 장치이다. 제1차 세계대전의 파괴를 경험하고 바이마르 독일의 격변기를 살았던 하우스만은 전통적인 예술에서 탈피하고 현대 기술의 원리를 수용한 새로운 예술을 창작하고자 했다. 그는 인체와 감각의 한계를 직시하고 발전된 기술의 도움으로 이를 보완하고 극복하고자 했다. 그의 옵토폰 이론은 기계와 예술의 결합, 기계 예술을 통한 감각의 확장이라는 두 축을 포함하였다. 하우스만은 예술이 과학 기술과 결합해야 한다고 주장했고, 변화와 충돌 안에서 균형을 갖추고 사회의 변화를 이끌어 갈 새로운 인간을 전망했다. 옵토폰은 다양한 지각의 상호보완 작용을 활성화함으로써 예술의 경험 가능성을 극대화하려는 하우스만의 미래적인 희망을 담고 있다. 하우스만이 한 세기 전에 예견했던 예술은 기술과 결합하여 인간 경험의 한계를 극복하고 궁극적으로 세계를 인지하는 폭을 확장하는 데 기여하는 예술이었다. 본 연구는 옵토폰을 미디어 고고학적인 장으로 발굴하고자 하며, 이를 통해 다양한 매체로 전개되고 있는 동시대 예술 실험의 정신적인 유산의 한 축을 드러내고자 한다.

The association between cardiovascular risk factors and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is well established, but whether cardiovascular health (CVH) metrics is associated with NAFLD had not been fully studied. Thus, we examined the association between CVH metrics and NAFLD in the middle-aged Korean population.We used data of 2,928 (851 men and 2,077 women) participants aged 30–64 years from the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease Etiology Research Center study. CVH metrics were measured using a modified version of Life’s Simple 7 by the American Heart Association. NAFLD diagnosis was based on the fatty liver index or liver-to-spleen ratio on computed tomography. A multiple logistic regression model was used to investigate the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between CVH metrics and NAFLD.In the cross-sectional analysis, the odds ratio for NAFLD was lower in participants with ideal CVH (odds ratio [OR], 0.13; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.08–0.18), while it was higher in individuals with poor CVH (OR, 2.87; 95% CI, 2.13–3.86). Similarly, the risk of new-onset NAFLD was lower in participants with ideal CVH (OR, 0.28; 95% CI, 0.11–0.74), and higher in individuals with poor CVH (OR, 2.20; 95% CI, 0.50–9.72) in the longitudinal analysis of a subgroup.Ideal CVH was associated with a lower risk of NAFLD while poor CVH was associated with a higher risk of NAFLD. These findings suggest that making efforts to encourage people to manage their CVH to the ideal level may prevent and manage NAFLD.
