번역 현장 교육 과목의 필요성과 효과적인 운용 방안 제안

        신지선 한국통역번역학회 2010 통역과 번역 Vol.12 No.2

This paper focuses on the essential for graduate students of translation and interpretation in enhancing ‘translator competence’ as well as ‘translation competence’. The practicum provides students with a wide range of opportunities: gaining real world experience in the translation and interpreting industry, achieving learner autonomy, making decisions for prospective careers, applying translation theory to practice, establishing a network of translators, offering free translation services for the public good, increasing students' awareness of professional ethics, and informing clients of the significance of communication between translators and clients. In order to investigate the students' responses to the practicum course at the Ewha Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation, a survey was conducted on 66 students. According to the results, the students were highly satisfied with their overall experience but suggested that a systematic collaboration between school and industry be in place to provide students with various practicum opportnities.

번역사의 커뮤니케이션 능력 -Translation Briefs(번역 의뢰사항)의 필요성을 중심으로

        신지선 한국통번역교육학회 2008 통번역교육연구 Vol.6 No.1

This paper aims to emphasize the vital role Translation Briefs plays in translating process, and propose the translator's' ability to obtain information required in Translation Commission as Translator's Communication Competence. Translation Briefs is a set of instructive information which directs the way translators choose in a decision-making process. They also strongly affects the way translators resolve translational problems. They should contain the intended text functions, the target addressees, the prospective time and place of text reception, the motive for the production of the text, the medium of tex reception, etc. This information, explicit or implicit, enables translators to sensitize what target text would be like. Accordingly, to gain sufficient and accurate information through Translation Briefs is indispensible in translation process on the part of translators to provide functionally adequate translation to client. Realizing the lack of awareness among translators about the significance of Translation Briefs, this paper suggests Translation Briefs be perceived as part of translator competence to make the goal of translation achievable and recommends instructors to help students enhance communication competence in order to complete Translation Briefs with necessary information.

'프랑스 명작소설 번역평가 시스템'의 교육적 활용방안 고찰

        신지선 한국외국어대학교 통번역연구소 2011 통번역학연구 Vol.15 No.1

Translation assessment is essential for teachers and learners for educational purposes despite its subjective nature. In this regard, this paper aims to explore the effective use of the Translation Quality Assessment model in educational settings, which is proposed by a research group of Korea University to evaluate Korean translations of French great novels. The two-tier assessment system attempts to evaluate pragmatic elements as well as the appropriateness of the lexical items and the grammatical structure. To examine the pedagogical value of the system, the first part of this paper is devoted to presenting specific methods for using the model in classroom. The assessment tool has a vital role to play in curriculum planning: the design of teaching/learning objectives, selection of resources and activities, and evaluation of students' performance. The second part analyzes the results of a survey of teachers and students who have implemented the model for evaluation of translation. The comments from the repondents confirm the critical value of the TQA system from a pedagogical perspective, and suggest various ways to use the system effectively in the classroom.

GOCI와 Landsat OLI 영상 융합을 통한 적조 탐지

        신지선,김근용,민지은,유주형,Shin, Jisun,Kim, Keunyong,Min, Jee-Eun,Ryu, Joo-Hyung 대한원격탐사학회 2018 大韓遠隔探査學會誌 Vol.34 No.2

In order to efficiently monitor red tide over a wide range, the need for red tide detection using remote sensing is increasing. However, the previous studies focus on the development of red tide detection algorithm for ocean colour sensor. In this study, we propose the use of multi-sensor to improve the inaccuracy for red tide detection and remote sensing data in coastal areas with high turbidity, which are pointed out as limitations of satellite-based red tide monitoring. The study area were selected based on the red tide information provided by National Institute of Fisheries Science, and spatial fusion and spectral-based fusion were attempted using GOCI image as ocean colour sensor and Landsat OLI image as terrestrial sensor. Through spatial fusion of the two images, both the red tide of the coastal area and the outer sea areas, where the quality of Landsat OLI image was low, which were impossible to observe in GOCI images, showed improved detection results. As a result of spectral-based fusion performed by feature-level and rawdata-level, there was no significant difference in red tide distribution patterns derived from the two methods. However, in the feature-level method, the red tide area tends to overestimated as spatial resolution of the image low. As a result of pixel segmentation by linear spectral unmixing method, the difference in the red tide area was found to increase as the number of pixels with low red tide ratio increased. For rawdata-level, Gram-Schmidt sharpening method estimated a somewhat larger area than PC spectral sharpening method, but no significant difference was observed. In this study, it is shown that coastal red tide with high turbidity as well as outer sea areas can be detected through spatial fusion of ocean colour and terrestrial sensor. Also, by presenting various spectral-based fusion methods, more accurate red tide area estimation method is suggested. It is expected that this result will provide more precise detection of red tide around the Korean peninsula and accurate red tide area information needed to determine countermeasure to effectively control red tide.

        신지선,김효진 한국통역번역학회 2016 통역과 번역 Vol.18 No.3

This research aims to illuminate the potential of audiovisual material in tourism promotion and to examine the role required of audiovisual translators in the tourism sector. Tourism is a field that places a high emphasis on visuality, a quality becoming even more pronounced in today’s digital age where the primary source of information is the Internet. Prior studies on tourism translation have been focused on the written text, such as information boards and brochures. This research addresses the growing importance of the audiovisual text and the various skills required of audiovisual translators working in tourism. To examine the actual impact and importance of videos in tourism, we conducted a survey on foreigners to find out their general opinion of travel-related videos. Having identified a demand for travel information in video format, we then conducted an interview with Arirang TV producers to investigate what qualities are considered vital in audiovisual translators. Results showed that a much more proactive role was required in terms of interpersonal skills, cultural competence, and creative writing. The findings from this research offer insights into the vast potential of audiovisuals in the tourism sector and the more dynamic role demanded of translators in this area.

사회구성주의 관점에서 바라본 ‘팀 번역’의 효과 고찰

        신지선 한국외국어대학교 통번역연구소 2016 통번역학연구 Vol.20 No.3

Social constructionists stress that an interaction with others in a social environment is essential to construct knowledge and learning is a product of collaborative activities rather than individual efforts. On the basis of the theoretical framework, nine students in my translation class were divided into three groups of three students and asked to conduct a "group translation" activity. The students have engaged themselves to various group activities in the translation process. They have worked closely together doing research, analysing a source text, identifying translation problems, discussing translation strategies, and making revisions. After a semester-long activity of team translation, a survey was carried out to examine the students' evaluation of the activity as well as the effects of collaborative learning on students' translation competence.

        ‘연구방법론’중심의 통번역학 연구

        신지선 한국통번역교육학회 2020 통번역교육연구 Vol.18 No.2

Translation Studies are closely linked to almost every academic field, from linguistics to computer science. Due to this multidisciplinary nature and relatively short research history, translation studies still have much room for improvement in terms of research methodology. Focusing on the current state of translation-related research, this study aims to highlight the importance of research design and method, and propose a methodological ‘turn’ in the study of translation studies. Firstly, this article provides a brief outline of the changing trends of research methodology when investigating into translation. Secondly, a methodology-centered research were presented employing ‘ethnography’ and ‘netnography’ as examples. Finally, the assessment of traditional human translation and machine translation post-editing were discussed in light of research design and methodology.
