The purpose of this study is to improve the transfer service between railroads and multi-modal transit by way of railroad station areas in Seoul Metropolitan Areas. In recent years, the railroad of Gyeongui, Jungang and Gyeongwon Lines started its longer service. To get improved alternatives, the survey on railroad passengers and travel activities was conducted, and analyzed the railroad operation system connected with multi-modal transit services. The research shows that passengers transferring from buses to railroad have origin places within average 7.2㎞, that means 21.5minutes. However, they have usually spent unnecessary times during transferring between multi-modal transits. Therefore, the research suggests a couple of improvements to upgrade the level of transfer system. First, the walking distances between railroad station entrances and bus stops or parking lots should be shortest to reduce travel time if possible. Second, the unreasonable bus routes should be corrected in straight lines. Third, the parking fee in railroad station areas should be reduced for passengers transferring public transit. Finally, to increase the rideship of public transit, the reasonable transfer system between railroads and multi-modal transits can make the total travel time of public transits less compared with private cars.
