Pollen Morphology of Pinus (Pinaceae) in Northeast China

The pollen morphology of eight taxa representing Pinus species of Pinaceae in northeast China was examined by light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The pollen grains were bisaccate monads. A single elongate outlined (monosulcate) aperture was observed on the distal pole between the sacci (air sacs) and the sculpture pattern of the corpus (pollen body) was verrucate or rugulate, while sacci were foveolate on either smooth or coarse surfaces. A key to pollen types of Pinus in northeast China was developed based on whether the sacci outline in polar view was discontinuous (diploxylonoid) or continuous (haploxylonoid) with the corpus outline, and on the exine sculpture patterns on the corpi and sacci. The pollen types were Densiflora, Koraiensis, Sylvestris and Tabulaeformis. The pollen width with sacci was highly correlated with the corpus width.

Flora along middle and lower watershed of river Mankyung was investigated, and 153 taxa(137 species, 15 varieties and 1 form), 116 genera and 40 families were identified. Among these taxa, there are 18 taxa(18 species of 15 genera of 8 families) for woody plants, while 135 taxa(119 species, 15 varieties and 1 form of 101 genera of 35 families) for herbaceous plants, and 25 taxa(24 species and 1 variety of 23 genera of 12 families) were investigated for the naturalized plants. There were 137 taxa(122 species and 15 varieties), 107 genera and 40 families at middle sites while 112 taxa(98 species 13 varieties and 1 form), 88 genera and 31 families at lower sites. The major taxa of this study area were 27 taxa of Gramineae, 26 taxa of compositae, 16 taxa of Leguminosae and 8 taxa of Cyperaceae, Polygonaceae and Chenopodiacead, respectively. Phragmites communis, Humulus japonicus, Achyranthes japonica, Stellaria aquatica, Rumex crispus, Erigeron canadensis and digitaria sanguinalis were frequently appeared at most sites. And aquatic plants, such as Typha orientalis, Spirodela polyrhiza and Myriophyllum verticilatum, and salt plants, such as Suaeda japonica, Salicornia herbacea, Salsola komarovii, Atriplex subcordata, Plantago major for. yezomaritima and Aster tripolium were found as frequently appeared plants.
