The purpose of this study is to qualitatively examine the nature of the stress experience of nurses in reemployment after career interruption using a phenomenological method. The subjects were nurses who were reemployed after working in medical institutions and experiencing three years or more of career interruption. The collected data showed five categories of themes: "the gaps between reality and earlier expectations," "getting hurt because of the worsening relationship with younger superiors," "struggling to adapt oneself to the changing work environments," "getting exhausted as a supermom," and "struggling to survive as a professional." The findings suggest that career-interrupted nurses who are considering finding a new job should be educated to make decisions on where to work. They should be provided with the right information on the environments of hospitals and with educational programs before reemployment to establish their roles as professional nurses. In addition, it is important to increase the diversity and accessibility of retraining programs that can adapt to the changing healthcare environment. It is necessary to develop career break programs so that nurses can successfully adapt to reemployment, to promote professionalism in the work environment, and to look for ways that can inspire nurses who have experienced career interruption.

Vol.6 No.2

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to explore the essential structure of the DNR(Do Not Resuscitate), decision process and the caring experience in the process of caring for patients in the intensive care unit who care for DNR patients. Method : Through Colaizzi’s phenomenological approach, this study extracted 13 nurses who had experience in nursing DNR patients and had worked in the intensive care unit for more than a year in the intensive care unit using the objective expression method. Subjects were derived from collection and analysis. Result : Participants reported moral anguish, including the topic of ethical dilemma due to the lack of standardized regulations in the process of determining DNR status and subsequent nursing roles, and emotional confusion due to family shaking. Conclusion : Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop a program that can support the emotional conflicts and difficulties experienced by intensive care unit nurses caring for DNR patients and to provide specific nursing education for DNR care. In addition, I believe that it is necessary to establish specific guidelines to make DNR more systematic and rational, and at the same time, systematic guidelines for DNR are needed.

        김주현(Kim, Joo Hyun),남은숙(Nam, Eun Sook),길명숙(Kil, Myung Sook),윤성자(Yoon, Sung Ja),손은진(Soun, Eun Jin),박은영(Park, Eun Young) 한국간호교육학회 2014 한국간호교육학회지 Vol.20 No.4

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze how the experiences of nurses influence their role model function when they are mothers of children who in turn have become nurses or nursing students. Method: The subjects of this study were 12 nurses, 8 of their children who became nurses and another 4 children then in training to become one. Data were collected through in-depth personal interviews and subsequently analyzed through a phenomenological approach. Results: Four main themes were identified as follows; ‘Persuasion and dissuasion,’ ‘Proud but still pathetic,’ ‘As mom and senior nurse’ and ‘Great to pass it down.’ Conclusion: The results of this study show that the nurse as mother could be a positive professional role model for her children. However, they tended to stress the arduous clinical routines and poor work conditions nurses currently experience. Should such routines and conditions improve, mothers who are nurses would be more willing to recommend the nursing profession to their children. Improving the professional environment is thus important because inter-generation nursing mobility provides a reliable resource to recruit qualified and dedicated nursing personnel.
