The Chinese traditional medical science “pen ts'ao shi”(本草學)”, which inclueded technics of alchemy for medical treatment, was partly developed as a generalized conventional medical science. Gunpowder was invented as a result of discovering the fact that potassium nitrate acts as an oxygen carrier in the process of manufacturing traditional medicine by heating the mixture of potassium nitrate and sulfur, and it was also discovered that with the mixture of potassium nitrate, sulfur and charcoal possesses an explosion capability. The manufacturing technology of gunpowder was transmitted to Europe from China through Arabia but the manufacturing technology of modern explosives was developed in Europe in the 17th century as a result of theoretical development of basic chemistry. Various kinds of new explosives were discovered in the 19th century and rapid progress was made in dynamite manufacturing. However, recently the demand for dynamite has decreased in favor of the ANFO explosive which is less expensive to produce and a safer explosive due to the improvment of ANFO production technology.

In order to search a method of manufacturing better activated clay in an effcient way, attempt was made to select particularly samples for activation to concentrate the research upon them with varied activation to concentrate the research upon them with varied activation conditions. Special attention was also made to the low quality materials because they may become good activated clay if treated under a suitable activation condition.

Composition of Acid Clay, the raw material for activated clay manufacturing, was investigated to develop useful data in deciding activation condition. Speculations on components and structure of activated clay were also made in order to see how included components of raw materials change during activation process. And a study was made on relations between structure of activated its adsorptivity. For this research, theremogravimetric analysis, X-ray differaction analysis and calculation of adsorptive index were carried out.

This study wa attempted to extract the Potash-Ammonia Fertilyzer in most satisfactory yield from the Uncalcinecl Domestic Alunite ore applying an optimal reaction conditions (Ammonia water concentration and applicable reaction pressure, etc.), it was found that almost all amount of $K_2SO_4$ was extracted in the forms of $K_2SO_4·(NH_4)_2SO_4$</TX>mixture under such conditions. The experimental data to note are as follows: 1. The optimal pressure applied to the reaction was 600 to 700 Psig. 2. The optimal concentration of Ammonia water was 7 Mol/L. 3. The reaction time needed was 3 hours. 4. The extraction rate and degree were not at variance with sorts and occurrences of Alunite ore.
