성봉현 ( Seong Bong Hyeon ) 한국고문서학회 2004 古文書硏究 Vol.24 No.-

The family description called Gokbo(族譜) or a family tree was revealed after middle Choson as it had started to write at the Chosbn Dynasty. In the Chosbn Dynasty, various types of a family line record such as Gaseung(家乘), Naewoibo(內外譜), Palgochodo (八高祖圓), Sipwyukchodo(十六祚圖), and Sipscbo(十世譜)excluding Hapdonggaseungbo which tdays we call it Gokbd(族譜) was written. If Gokbo(族譜) is considered as a history and common genealogy of the clan group to which a person belongs, Gaseung(家乘), Naewoibo(內外譜), Palgochodo(八高祖圖), Sipwyukchodo(十六祚圖), and Sipseb(十世譜) is thought as a history and genealogy clarifying a person or an ancestor of a family that a person belongs. Among such a family line record, this paper examined 「Sunsewoiga (先世外家族譜)」 of the family of Gosung Lee, and the writer and writing method of 「Palgochodo(八高祖圖)」. 「Sunsewoigagokbo (先世外家族譜) was written by Lee Suk(l647- 1723) who had written `Dokyukwanwei(讀易玩義)a from the late 17th century to the early 18th century. On a family-tree, Lee Suk made a family-tree of not only spouse of one`s maiden home, but also the genealogical chart of a previous age spouse on the side of his birth home in the case that in previous age there was an adopted son. On one`s mother`s maiden home, he made a family-tree on one`s mother`s maiden home, one`s maiden home of one`s maiden home, and one`s mother`s maiden home of one`s maiden home of one`s maiden home. On a wife`s side, he also made a family-tree on a wife`s family, the family of a wife`s grandmother, the family of a wife`s a great-grand-mother, and the family of a wife`s grand mother on mother`s side. Compared with `the family tree of one`s mother`s maiden home』 which dealt with one spouse by one spouse of many generations, `Sunsewoiga Gokbo(先世外家族譜) 』 that Lee Suk wrote could trace down all the side of one`s mother`s maiden home. The method describing a family-tree on each one`s mother`s maiden home in the `Sunsewoiga Gokbo(先世外家族譜)a recorded all ancestors from the founder of one`s mother`s maiden home to the spouse who married to the family of Gosung Lee. In the 『Sunsewoigagokbo(先世外家族譜)』, children were recorded by the order of a birth, and one`s maternal children included a great-grandson of one`s mother`s home “ a great-great-grandson of one`d mother`s home “ a five-generation son of one`s mother`s home, and children of one`s maternal granddaughter of one`s maternal children. Such recording system was the same as `a picture album of Andong Kwona and `a family book of Munwha Ryua. On this point, 『Sunsewoigagokbo (先世外家族譜) 』treated one`s maternal children as one`s grandchildren equally at the early Choson, and It was material which showed a spirit of a family line or a spirit of blood relation figured out blood relation of one`s mother`s maiden home thoroughly existed until the 18th century. `Palgochodo(八高祖圖)~ of the family of Gosung Lee was finished from 1726 to 1746 by Lee Myung Kyu , son of Lee suk(1678-1768) who was the Writer of 『Sunsewoigagokbo(先世外家族譜)』. The main reason which took 20 years to complete `Palgochodo(八高祖圖)』 like this was because it was difficult to find out to read especially the Gokbo(族譜) of a previous generation`s wife of 『Palgochodo(八高祖圖)』. So, at first Lee Myung Ku recorded it via the way to fill the blank out with the found Gokbo(族譜) of the wife after writing down the family origin of a name of a previous generation`s wife from his own Gokbo(族譜). The writing style of `Palgcchodo(八高祖圖)a of the family of Gosung Lee was the one who drew parents after parents to a great-great-grandparent with a line form bottom to top. Therefore, in general 『Palgochodo(八高祖圖)』a filled out parents of a father and parents of a mother drawing Jeonggan(井間), and it imitated 『Bokheeyuksipsado』, of `『Jooyouk(the Book of Changes)』. The purpose that Lee Myung Ku wrote 『Palgochodo(八高祖圖)』 was to c
