      • FPSO용 3상 세퍼레이터의 Mist Eliminator 성능평가에 대한 연구

        Wire mesh mist eliminator is widely used in various industrial fields, such as crude oil production plants and chemical process plants, specifically on gas scrubbers, packed towers and 3-phase separators, for the purpose to remove floating liquid droplets in the gas. The wide utilization of the wire mesh mist eliminator is due to the low-cost and high separation efficiency. However, despite of the wide applications of the wire mesh mist eliminator, design and performance validation cases using computational fluid dynamics are very limited. Heretofore, wire mesh mist eliminator design has been performed based on semi-empirical equations, and performance is validated through high-cost experiments. On this study, a method to evaluate the performance of a wire mesh mist eliminator which will be applied to the FPSO (Floating, Production, Storage, and Offloading) topside 3-phase separator by using two-dimensional computational fluid dynamics has been suggested to replace the high-cost experiments. To verify the suggested method, a comparison between the performance analysis using computational fluid dynamics, semi-empirical equation, and experiments has been performed with a specific wire mesh mist eliminator model.

        A floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) is a floating vessel used by the offshore oil and gas industry for the processing of hydrocarbons and for storage of oil. The separators are FPSO topside facilities designed to separate a measure water, gas and oil rates. The separators are equipment with internal components such as inlet device, vane pack, coalescer, wave breaker, weir plates and mist extractor that facilitate and improve the separation of phases. The inlet device distributes well stream composed of water, gas and oil at the separator inlet to make calm and even flow for the improvement of separation efficiency. This research would show the flow patterns inside the 3-phase separator for the typical shapes of inlet device by using CFD analysis.
