Bringing the World Into the Classroom, 언어연구 17-2, 381-396. 학생들은 교과서 이외의 살아있는 자료들을 통해서 영어를 더욱 효과적으로 배울 수 있다. 이 논문에서, 연구자는 방송 매체나 그 밖의 다른 자료들을 이용해서 학생들에게 동기 유발을 시키려고 시도했다. 영자신문, 영화, 노래, 그리고 학생들이 영어로 만드는 비디오테이프, 일본 학생들과 영어로 전자 우편을 교환하는 방법들이 사용되었다. 학생들이 영어로 만든 비디오테이프를 일본 학생들과 교환하며 의사소통을 할 수 있었기 때문에 한 학기가 지난 후에, 한국 학생들은 영어에 대한 자신감을 가질 수 있었다. 교사들은 이런 방법들을 이용하여, 학생들을 독립적인 학습자로 만들 수 있다. 이러한 방법들은 전통적인 교사 중심교육이라기 보다는 학생 중신 교육이라고 할 수 있다. 학생들은 교사의 많은 간섭이 없이도 충분히 많은 과제들을 할 수 있는 능력이 있다. Thematic Language Instruction for Children

Thematic language instruction combines language and content. The five-day lesson plan will provide good opportunities for teachers to try a new approach for children. Teaching English in Korea has been favored a teacher-dominated approaches. As a result, Korean students had good receptive skills rather than productive skills. When teachers realize the learning benefits of thematic instruction, they will be less reluctant to relinquish a degree of control over classroom activities. In the thematic instruction, children will learn language, content and learning strategies. Students can learn better when the contents are meaningful for them. All four skills are integrated using birthday theme.
The Role and Status of English in Korean Society : Its Pedagogical and Societal Implications

This paper is about the role and status of English in the world and in Korea. The status of English is that of a foreign language in Korea. The role of English is very influential in various areas because this is the age of communication and the global village. In this respect, it might be necessary to have thorough consideration as English education. This paper proposes to contribute the improvement of present English education in Korea by suggesting pedagogical and societal implication.
Creating Theme-Based Teaching through Inspirational Movies such as The Blind Side

This paper aims to discuss creating theme based teaching through movies for the EFL university level of students. Using movies with similar themes will be effective to teach English and contents to the tertiary level of Korean students. The goal of this paper is to provide specific guidelines regarding theme based instruction which can be applied in the EFL classroom. It is expected that students will be inspired to learn English in the meaningful contexts and eventually it will lead to meaningful learning. This paper is work in progress and the researcher is going to suggest specific lesson plans using inspirational movies. In the further research, the result of the research will be presented after she tries this method in the classroom. It is expected that students will be motivated to improve English and use expressions in the real life situations which they have learned in the various movies. It gears to encourage students to have more intrinsic motivation and make them more independent learners.
Professional Development Through Teacher Training Program

This paper is about the professional growth through teacher training program. To provide effective English classroom to the students, teachers need to keep abreast of new teaching trends and methods. There are various teacher training programs to educate teachers around the world. In this paper, the researcher tried to investigate teacher training program for the native English speakers who want to teach English to the speakers of the foreign languages. After practice teachers went through six week intensive teacher training program in America, they improved their teaching skills and began to understand foreign students better. Based on this kind of program, we can initiate better prepared courses for the novice English teachers in Korea. Teachers training program helps professional development for novice teachers and experienced teachers.
