The Korean name "Bizooki" tree was named by the shape of winter bud which is like a slim bow. There are four scientific names in the tree which are Cleyera japonica Thunberg, Cleyera ochnacea DC, Sakakia ochnacea Nakai, and Ternstroemia gymnanthera. And the English name are Japanese Ternstroemia and Japanese Cleyera. "Bizooki" tree has planted at Buddhist temples in Japan for the ritual. The best result of stem cutting in "Bizooki" tree, 100 percent of rooting, could be accomplished in July when cuttings were done on the mixture-soil containing the same rates by volume of vermiculite, peatmoss and perlite with cuts processed with IBA 1,000 mg/l under the circumstances that 70% of shade, plastic mulching, and mist were conditioned.

멸종위기에 직면한 피뿌리풀 (Stellera roseaN.)의 기내증식법을 개발하고자 액아 마디를 MS 배지에 BAP와 zeatin을 처리하여 다경 (multiple shoot)를 유도하고 기내발근에 미치는IBA및 NAA처리 효과를 조사하였다. 액아 마디로부터 다경유도는 BA가 현저히 양호한 반면 줄기의 생장은 zeatin이 BA보다 효과적이었다. 증식된 줄기로부터 기내 발근은 오옥신 처리로 가능하였으나 발근율은 대체로 저조하였고 오옥신의 전처리 기간에 따라 차이를 보였다. IBA가 NAA보다 다소 좋은 발근효과를 보였고 1.0mg/L 농도로 15일간 배양시 30%까지 발근되었다. NAA역시 처리농도 및 처리기간에 따라 발근율에 차이를 보였다. 발근묘는 인공토양에서 51%가 활착되어 정상생장이 가능하였다. 이상의 결과는 발근 및 순화조건을 좀더 개선하면 피뿌리풀의 효율적인 기내번식이 가능함을 시사해준다. In order to develop an efficient micropropagation technique for an endangered species, Stellera rosea N., stem node cultures were conducted on MS medium supplemented with cytokinins. Generally, BA was better than zeatin on shoot proliferation from stem nodes, whereas zeatin showed more effective on shoot elongation. In vitro rooting of shoots was achieved by application of an auxin pre-culturing method. Overall rooting rate was relatively low and differed depending on the culture period. Pre-culturing of shoots for 15 days at 1.0mg/L IBA revealed a slightly better rooting efficiency reaching 30% rooting rate than NAA. Root induction rate by NAA also varied with concentration of NAA and culture periods. Total 51% of the rooted plantlets survived on artificial soil mixture and grew normally without any distinct morphological variation. The results suggest that the endangered Stetllera plants are propagated via in vitro culture system, but still need to more study for the improvement of rooting and acclimatization of the plantlets in soil.

The broad sense heritability of height of clonal means was estimated from 18 clones out of 25 clones growing at four different sites, and it showed considerably high heritability of H²_(CM)=0.883. Therefore if we select the best one clone(5% selection), the genetic gain of 35.3% which is equal to 1.02m in height is expected to attain. If we select the best two clones(10% selection), the genetic gain will be 25.6 which is equal to 0.74m in height. Because the trees are only 4-year-old, it is expected to show higher genetic gain than the current gain when the trees reach to the age of final selection.

This study surveyed the distribution and characteristics of epiphytes and host trees in Jejudo`s warm-temperate evergreen forests area. The gathered data will be used for evaluating ecological changes according to climate change. The study found 46 species of epiphytes in Jejudo; 12 of which were species of pteridophytes and 5 species of orchids, totaling 17 species of epiphytes. The appearance frequency was the greatest with Lepisorus thunbergianus, followed by Lemmaphyllum microphyllum and Lepisorus onoei. The area with the greatest diversity of epiphytes was nutmeg tree forests which have the largest number of 2.89 average species. Lemmaphyllum microphyllum had the greatest percent cover of the epiphytes whose importance was found to be the greatest. The factors involved were the epiphytes` diversity index (0.64), maximum species diversity (1.23), evenness (0.52), and dominance (0.48). The study has noted the distribution characteristics of epiphytes according to altitudes above sea level. The Lemmaphyllum microphyllum can survive at an altitude of 600 m above sea level, Lepisorus thunbergianus at 200-1,400m above sea level, Lepisorus onoei. at 400-1,000 m, and Gonocormus minutus at an altitude above 800 m. The host trees, consisting of Quercus serrata, Castanopsis cuspidata var. sieboldii, and Carpinus laxiflora, stands at 2-19 m high and 2.5-120 ㎝wide, showing diverse kinds of trees and sizes. Jejudo`s warm-temperate evergreen forests have lower epiphyte diversity compared with those of subtropical and tropical areas in Japan and China. Based on the characteristics of the host trees order, epiphytes` distribution associated with the altitude above sea level was typical.
