It is important to maintain appropriate water quality of Saemangeum estuary lake and establish reasonal plans to manage water quality in order to develope Saemangeum project area successfully. To do these works, It is necessary to monitor water qualities in important places of Saemangeum lake and watershed. And It is also needed to apply water quality model which estimate water qualities of Seamangeum project area properly. It is necessary to come up with methods to manage water quality. And It is needed to appraise measures for persevering water quality by estimating water qualities using water quality model. It was resulted from analyzing water quality of Saemangeum estuary lake by three sluice gate open conditions, More widely do open sluice gates, better was the water quality. And It was estimated that scenario Ar-1, COD was 2.32㎎/L, TN was 0.73㎎/L and TP was 0.038㎎/L at the middle part of Mangyeong water area. And COD was 2.01㎎/L, TN was 0.59㎎/L and TP was 0.032㎎/L at the middle part of Dongjin water area. The water quality of the Dongjin water area was better than that of the Mangyeong water area.

Four type of settling facilities at the inlet of an agricultural reservoir were compared the efficiencies of water quality improvement with each other. The first type is dragged settling pond, the second type is constructed settling pond using an auxiliary dam, the third type is the simplicity settling pond using partition skirt-shaped tarpaulin shield, and the fourth type is the enhanced settling pond of the third type using artificial floating island and bio-media. The removal efficiencies of the four type settling facilities were SS 38.1%, TN 33.9% and TP 42.1% in the dragged settling pond(1st type), SS 49.3%, TN 24.2% and TP 35.3% in the settling pond using an auxiliary dam(2nd type), SS 47.6%, TN 32.1% and TP 42.5% in the simplicity settling pond using partition skirt-shaped tarpaulin shield(3rd type), and SS 61.4%, TN 43.6% and TP 74.7% in the enhanced settling pond of the third type using artificial floating island and bio-media(4th type). And to conclude, it was established that the enhanced settling pond and facilities were showed the highest efficiencies of water quality purification activity.

Saemangeum dike has been completed in 21 April, 2006 and dyke gates operation was started. Saemageum have two sluice gate called Garyuk and Sinsi. Freshwater discharge by the dyke gates can cause a damage of marine ecosystem. So we decided that limited salinity is 22psu in Saemangeum. This study was simulate extent of freshwater diffusion toward sea by the dyke gates open and that evaluate ecological variation. GEMSS model was used to estimate salinity variation. As a result of simulations, variation of salinity was not observed of the 22psu below and salinity concentration was recovery in one or two days by tide. From this simulation, We know that diffusion of salinity was little ecological effect by recover quickly.
