        연수프로그램이 필리핀인 영어강사의 교사 자질과 교수효능감에 미친 영향

        This study investigated effectiveness of an in-service program for Filipino English-speaking teachers who taught English in elementary schools with surveys on teacher qualifications and efficacy during in-service programs conducted in 2014 and 2015. For data collection, the survey questionnaire was given to 13 Filipino teachers participating in the consecutive in-service program. The results of the comparison of the surveys of 2014 and 2015 were as follows. First, they were more satisfied with the 2015 in-service program. Second, in comparison of the means of teacher qualification, both educational methodology and personality/attitude increased slightly in 2015. Third, the comparison of the means of teacher efficacy showed that only the confidence increased in 2015. However, in regard to teacher qualification and efficacy, it is probable that the in-service program was effective enough to motivate the participants to grow into a better teacher. In conclusion, this study implies that it is necessary to make efforts to cultivate alternative human resources like these Filipino teachers for providing local communities with trained instructors for help of L2 students and for benefiting the surrounding region.

        대학생들의 토익 성적에 따른 학습동기와 학습전략 관계

        This paper is to examine the correlation and the relation of cause and effect between learning motivation and learning strategies depending on academic achievement. For this purpose, this paper focuses on three aspects: 1)the difference of learning motivation and learning strategies between Basic Group and Upper-Basic Group, 2) the correlation between learning motivation and strategies 3) the relation of cause and effect among learning motivation and strategies. The first aspect says that though the Upper-Basic group’s mean was higher than the Basic one, there’s no meaningful difference statistically. The second aspect says that the correlation among the subcategories of two variables appeared extremely high in all of them. And the last one says that five subcategories of learning strategies have an impact on learning motivation, among which metacognitive strategy has the highest impact on learning motivation. In conclusion, it is suggested that if we cultivate the students’ extrinsic motivation and metacognitive strategy more than the others, it can be expected to get students’s TOEIC scores to rise more.

        고등학생의 외국어 학습 신념에 관한 연구

        This study identifies high school students' beliefs about language learning through a factor analysis on Horwitz's Beliefs about Language Learning(BALLI) and investigates the relationship among language learning beliefs, gender and grade, along with the correlation between language learning beliefs and the starting point of English study. The subjects were as many as 600 students attending a boys' high school and a girls' high school in Seoul. First, five underlying factors were discovered in the BALLI: motivational beliefs and beliefs about nature of language learning(belief 1), self-efficacy and beliefs about social interaction(belief 2), language learning aptitude(belief 3), language learning ability and belief about the function of English(belief 4), and beliefs about practical English(belief 5). Among the five belief variables, belief 1 shows the highest mean in this study. Secondly, the result of two-way ANOVA shows that two independent variables, gender and grade have statistically significant influences on belief 1, belief 3, and belief 4, and the result of ANOVA indicates that the starting point of English study influences only belief 2, allowing the assumption that the sooner language study begins, the higher the self-efficacy and belief about social interaction. In conclusion, this study shows that some of the belief variables are related to the independent variables. Therefore, instructors should dedicate their energy to improving students' beliefs, in particular, considering what kinds of beliefs must be improved for students.

        대학 교양영어 수준별 수업의 효율성 제고 방안 연구

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of a level-specific general English program at college on the basis of students’ and teachers’ perception. The general English courses were designed to improve students’ communicative skills in English and were offered for four semesters. Each course is compulsory and is taught by English-speaking native instructers. A survey was conducted with 325 students to measure their satisfaction and perception of the program. Additionally, interviews were conducted to instructers to complement the survey. The findings show that even though the students were not highly satisfied with the course, they strongly approved the need for the level-specific instruction. Students in the advanced course seemed comparatively to have more benefit than the beginners and the intermediate. Students called into questions the placement and instructers maintained they had some difficulties in placing students in their right level. Instructers also stated that placing students in the right level is the most important key to success. Pedagogical implications and suggestions were provided towards a more efficient tracking model of general English program.

        대학생 토익성적 향상도에 따른 학습동기와 학업적 자기효능감 상관관계 :항공서비스학과 학생을 중심으로

        본 연구는 학습자들의 학업성취도에 중요한 변인인 학습동기와 학업적 자기효능감의 상관성 분석을 통해 학습자들에게 보다 효과적인 학습방법 제시가 목적이다. 분석 결과를 정리해보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, Level 간 학습동기의 하위영역 별 평균값에 대한 차이비교에서 4개의 하위영역 중 본질동기와 수업동기가 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 보였으며, Level 별 하위영역 평균값에서 Level 2가 Level 1보다 모든 영역에서 높게 나타났다. 둘째, Level 간 학업적 자아효능감의 하위영역 별 차이비교에서 3개의 하위영역 중 자기조절 효능감이 유일하게 유의미한 차이를 보였다. 셋째, 학습동기와 학업적 자아효능감의 하위영역 간 상관관계에서는 모든 영역이 상관성을 보였으며, 비본질 동기와 본질동기가 상호 상관성이 가장 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 학습동기와 학업적 자아효능감의 하위영역 간상관성 분석에서는 자기조절효능감이 비본질 동기, 본질동기, 수업동기와 상관성을 보였다. The purpose of this study is to find out the better teaching method to get the students to make more academic achievement in TOEIC study. The results were as follows: Firstly, the difference comparison of learning motivation has found that two subcategories show a statistically meaningful significance between two groups. Meanwhile, the group of Level 2 shows much higher means than Level 1 in the difference comparison of each subcategories. Secondly, the difference comparison of academic self-efficacy has said that self-regulratory efficacy only shows a statistical meaningful significance among three ones between two groups. Thirdly, all the subcategories of both learning motivation and academic self-efficacy are correlated with each other and the pair of extrinsic motivation and intrinsic one shows the highest correlation, with self-regulratory efficacy only correlated with the ones of learning motivation.

        고등학생들의 영어 학습전략과 학습신념의 차이 비교

        This study identifies group disparities found in girls’ high school students’ use of language learning strategies and the students’ beliefs about language learning. This study found that statistically, a group disparity only exists in the use of language learning strategy and beliefs regarding language learning. This finding indicates that the students in Seoul used strategies more frequently than those in Chungju, thus allowing for the assumption that students’ learning ability in Seoul is higher than that of their counterparts in Chungju. This study also revealed that only the group factor had a statistically significant influence on the strategy variables, and that each belief variable is generally related to more than two strategy variables. The results suggest that the group disparities in relation to students’ learning ability be recognized and steps be taken to improve the educational environment in schools where students’ learning ability seems to be comparatively lower.         영어 성취도와 학습자 요인의 관계

        This paper aims to investigate the relationship of English achievements and learner’s factors of Korean college students. The study surveyed 102 students composed of 48 male students and 54 female students. In addition, the participants took a TOEIC test for their English proficiency. The survey revealed the followings: 1) no factor was significantly related to English achievements; 2) there is a significant difference only in English achievements between low-level and high-level students; 3) there is no significant difference in the use of any factors between female and male students; 4) there is no any factor to have an influence on the improvement of English achievements; 5) confidence is the only factor among learner’s ones to influence the use of learning strategies, which is extended to improve students’ English achievements. The result of this finding suggests that instructors encourage students to have more confidence in the midst of some classes ,and help them to acquire better English competence and improve abilities for their English skills.

        다문화 가정 이주 여성 필리핀인 영어강사 활용 정책에 대한 만족도

        This study was intended to investigate levels of satisfaction with utilization of filipino English-speaking teachers in Korea, especially focusing on teacher efficacy. For data collection, a survey questionnaire was given to Korean teachers (n = 15) and filipino English-speaking teachers (n = 13) in elementary schools in Korea. The results of this study are as follows. First, in regard to satisfaction, findings indicated that most of the issues, such as improvement of English ability, academic achievement, teachers’ requirements and qualities, and administration to handle the teachers, are satisfactory. Therefore, it seems that the filipino teachers had no big problems and difficulties managing English education. Second, considering the teachers’ self awareness of teacher qualifications, the result showed that all of the issues, such as knowledge domain, teaching methodology, self-regulation efficacy and self-confidence, indicated comparatively satisfactory levels. However, some problems such as the regional dialect of pronunciation were also mentioned. In conclusion, with these findings, we maintain that English education performed by the filipino teachers played a positive role in providing students in a rural area with opportunities to learn English effectively.

        언어 학습전략 사용의 변화와 학업 성취도

        This study aims to investigate and identify the transition of use of language learning strategies, and the relationship of language learning strategies and academic achievements. This research was done with 92 undergraduate students who were divided into two groups: low and high. The findings of this study are as follows. First, there is some transition in the use of language learning strategy and significant differences in the frequency of strategy use between male and female students. In particular, the transition of male's frequency is higher than female's. Second, a statistically significant correlation was found among language learning strategies, and the second survey is more statistically significant. Third, there are significant differences in the frequency of strategy use between low-level and high-level students in memory, recognition and social strategy. Finally, in this study, social strategy is the best indicator for predicting academic achievement in the first survey, and affective strategy in the second survey.

        대학생의 영문법 학습에 대한 인식도

        This study aims at investigating college students’ perception on grammar learning in EFL environment. For this study, 59 students participated in questionnaire research: the necessity of English grammar learning, effective way of learning English grammar, and the usefulness of learning English grammar. In addition, the participants took two English grammar tests to measure their grammar proficiency. The survey found the following results: 1) 86 percent of the respondents thought learning English grammar was necessary for foreign language learners; 2) more than half of the participants prefer to complete the inductive task rather than the deductive tasks when studying English grammar; 3) they thought that learning English grammar contributes to enhancing the language skills such as writing, reading, speaking and listening; and 4) there were some significant correlations among variables: significant correlation among learning achievements, grammar ability and one of the language skills, writing; significant correlation between grammar ability and writing; significant correlations between language skills. The result that most of the participants perceive the necessity of studying English grammar suggests that English grammar teaching should be one of core factors for English instructors to help English language learners achieve better English competence and promote communicative language use.
