        스키아파렐리 하우스의 디자인 특성

        빠르게 변하는 기술, 사회, 문화적 환경으로 인해, 패션 브랜드의 가치와 경쟁력 제고는 최근에 더욱 중요한 문제가 되고 있다. 본 연구는 오랜 역사를 지닌 스키아파렐리 하우스를 성공적으로 부활시킨 다니엘 로즈베리의 디자인 특성을 분석하여, 스키아파렐리 하우스의 디자인이 어떻게 계승되고 발전하고 있는지 밝히는것을 목적으로 하였다. 연구 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 엘자 스키아파렐리의 디자인을 중심으로 하우스의오리지널 디자인 특성을 고찰하였다. 둘째, 로즈베리에 의한 스키아파렐리 하우스 쿠튀르 컬렉션의 디자인특성을 분석하였다. 셋째, 스키아파렐리 하우스 디자인의 계승과 재해석, 발전을 중점으로 그 특성을 논의하였다. 연구 방법 및 범위는 다음과 같다. 스키아파렐리 하우스의 오리지널 디자인 특성에 관한 고찰은 1920∼ 1950년대 스키아파렐리의 디자인에 관련된 자료를 바탕으로 문헌 연구를 하였다. 로즈베리의 디자인은 스키아파렐리 2019 FW∼2023 FW 쿠튀르 컬렉션의 작품 사진을 수집하여 디자인을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 작품사진은 패션 전문 매체 보그의 인터넷 사이트에서 수집하였고 자료 분석 시, 패션 전문 매체의 리뷰, 디자이너의 인터뷰와 관련 기사를 참고하였다. 연구 결과 로즈베리는 동시대의 사회문화적 배경을 반영한 주제 탐구와 다양한 미학적인 접근으로 디자인을 하여 하우스의 오리지널 디자인의 조형 특성과 미적 가치를 계승하고, 재해석하였으며 확장하였다. 로즈베리에 의한 스키아파렐리 하우스의 디자인 특성은 다양하고 실험적인 조형 라인, 몸의 부분을 활용한 과감한 장식과 액세서리, 초현실주의적 기법의 확장과 다양한 미학적 시도를 바탕으로 한 혁신성, 예술성과 실용성의 조화, 동시대성이라는 미적 가치를 보이는 것으로 분석되었다. 이 연구의 결과는 역사가 있는 패션 하우스의 계승과 발전에 대한 정보를 제공하여 패션 브랜드의 육성과발전에 도움을 줄 수 있는 의의가 있다. In the rapidly changing technological, social, and cultural environment, enhancing the value and competitiveness of fashion brands has become increasingly important. The purpose of this study was to analyze the design characteristics of Daniel Rosebery, who successfully revived the long-standing Schiaparelli House, and reveal how the design of the Schiaparelli House is being inherited and developed. The contents of the study are as follows. First, the original design characteristics of the house were examined, focusing on Elsa Schiaparelli's design. Second, the design characteristics of the Schiaparelli House Couture collection by Rosebery were analyzed. Third, the characteristics of the Schiaparelli House design were discussed, focusing on its succession, reinterpretation, and development. The research method and scope are as follows: The original design characteristics of Schiaparelli House from the 1920s to the 1950s were examined through literature research. Roseberry's design was empirically analyzed with photos of the House's couture collections from 2019 FW to 2023 FW. The photos were collected from the Internet site of Vogue, a fashion media outlet. When analyzing data, the study referred to the reviews from fashion media, interviews with the designer, and related articles. The research findings demonstrated that Roseberry, reflecting the socio-cultural context of his time, engaged in thematic exploration and various aesthetic approaches to design while inheriting, reinterpreting and expanding the original design's formative characteristics and aesthetic value of the house. The design characteristics of the Schiaparelli House under Roseberry were analyzed as aesthetic values of innovation, a harmony of artistry and practicality, contemporaneity based on diverse and experimental formative lines, bold decorations and accessories utilizing parts of the body, and the expansion of surrealistic techniques and various aesthetic attempts. The results of this study are significant in that they can help foster and develop fashion brands by providing information on the succession and development of the historic fashion houses.

        Human Papillomavirus Prevalence and Genotype Distribution among HIV-Infected Women in Korea

        The epidemiology on human papillomavirus (HPV) among human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected women in Korea is not well established. A retrospective study was conducted to determine the prevalence and genotype distribution of HPV infection among HIV-infected women in Korea. HPV DNA genotype and cervical cytology were examined in 60 HIV-positive women and 1,938 HIV-negative women. HPV genotypes were analyzed by using a HPV DNA chip. HIV-infected women had higher prevalence of high-risk HPV (hr-HPV) infection (30% vs 4.9%, adjusted odds ratio [AOR], 6.96; 95% confidence interval [CI], 3.63-13.34, P<0.001) and abnormal cervical cytology (18.3% vs 1.8%, AOR, 10.94; 95% CI, 5.18-23.1, P<0.001) compared with controls. The most common hr-HPV genotype detected in HIV-infected women was HPV 16 (10%), followed by 18 (6.7%) and 52 (5%). Prevalence of quadrivalent vaccine-preventable types (HPV 6, 11, 16, and 18) was 21.7% and 2.3% in HIV-positive women and HIV-negative women, respectively. Age was a significant risk factor for hr-HPV infection in HIV-infected women (P=0.039). The presence of hr-HPV was significantly associated with abnormal cervical cytology (P<0.001). These findings suggest that HPV testing for cervical cancer screening in HIV-infected women would be necessary, particularly among young age group.

        鄭晏 조성 국보 제206-10호 <預修十王生七經變相圖> 재검토

        Woodblock Illustration of Yu-sie-shi-wang-Sheng-qi-Jing (Buddha’s Utterance on Rituals to be Performed While Living in Preparation for Judgment by the Ten Kings of Hell, 預修十王生七經變相圖) designated as a National Treasure No.206-10 has been known as Jeong-An(鄭晏)’s work in 1246. The purpose of Jeong-An making this Woodblock Illustration was to praying reincarnation in paradise for his deceased father, mother as well as the public. In addtion, nine pieces of Illustration of Sutra in the woodblocks of the National Treasure No.206-10 have been appraised very significant artworks in art history. By going over images in Illustration of Sutra, this essay examines four important aspects which have not been mentioned. First, the National Treasure No.206-10 is engraved Illustration of Sutra on wide woodblocks based on a scroll type of an original script. Second, these images indirectly show visual settings of an ancient Buddhist ritual place. Third, the author confirmed visual settings for hierarchy among sacred figures. Forth, this essay reexamines for what the image of Grim Reaper-a rider heading for other side- represents. Last, throughout the engraver’s name of Sam-myeo(三旀) under a title of the seventh Woodblock Ilustrations (Shiwang-kyung Shiwang-jae, 十王経十二丈), Sam-myeo not only created numerous Buddhist-Sutra-woodblocks from 1237 to 1247, but he also actively participated in engraving the Woodblock of Tripitaka Koreana. 국보 206-10호 <예수시왕생칠경판>은 1246년에 정안이 조성한 것이다. 이 경판 조성은 정안이 돌아가신 아버지와 홀어머니, 부부와 인척들, 인연 있는 모든 법계 중생을 위해 저승길에 막힘없이 왕생하기를 바라며 제작한다는 誌文이 새겨져 있다. 국보 206-10호본은 총 9판이며, 미술사적으로 매우 중요한 변상도가 무려 9장을 차지하고 있다. 변상도 이미지를 통해 지금까지 구체적으로 언급되지 않았던 몇 가지 중요한 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 첫째, 국보 제206-10호본은 두루마리 형식의 저본을 바탕으로 폭이 넓은 경판에 새긴 변상도이다. 고려후기 걸개그림의 불화처럼 엄격한 상하 이단구도가 아니라, 화면 크기에 따라 구도상의 변화를 재확인 할 수 있었다. 둘째, 고대 불교 의식 공간에 대한 장치를 간접적으로 엿볼 수 있었다. 세째, 도상간의 위계에 대한 시각적 장치를 확인할 수 있었다. 네째, 변상 가장 마지막 장면인 말을 타고 幡을 휘날리며 달리는 명부사자 장면이 시사하는 바를 재검토하였다. 다섯째, 변상 장면 외에 제7경판의 판수제 ‘十王経十二丈’ 아래에 三旀라는 각수명을 통해 그가 1238~1247년까지 많은 양의 경판을 조성하였을 뿐만 아니라 대장의 각성 사업에 적극 활동한 자임을 알 수 있었다.

        Follow-Up of Cryoablated Renal Cell Carcinoma with Residual Contrast Enhancement on CT and MRI

        Purpose: To describe the characteristics of residual contrast enhancement (CE) in cryoablated renal cell carcinoma (RCC) with regard to eventual resolution and the presence of residual tumor on follow-up CT and MRI. Materials and Methods: 22 patients with 24 RCCs underwent laparoscopic renal cryoablation and follow-up CT (n = 19) and MRI (n = 3) for a mean of 28 months. Two radiologists retrospectively assessed the CT and MRI images for the tumor size and characteristics of residual CE in the cryolesions: peripheral rim (< 10% of the maximum cryolesion diameter), focal eccentric (10-25%), and thick internal enhancement (> 25%). Results: Residual CE was seen in 13 cryolesions (54%) at 3-month follow-up. Peripheral rim and focal eccentric enhancement was seen in six (25%) and four (16.7%) cryolesions, persisted for a mean follow-up of 4.5 and 6 months, and disappeared completely at a mean follow-up of 10.5 and 12 months, respectively. Three (12.5%) cryolesions showed persistent thick internal enhancement at 6-month follow-up, and were treated with radiofrequency ablation or chemotherapy. The cryolesions had decreased in size by an average of 20.2% and 39.7% at 6 and 12 months after cryoablation, respectively. Conclusion: Follow-up for ≥ 12 months is needed to assess treatment outcomes in patients with peripheral rim or focal eccentric enhancement of cryoablated RCCs, which may persist until 12 months postoperatively without remnant viable tumor.

        해인사 소장 사간판 <예수시왕생칠경변상도> 재검토

        The three kinds of Woodblock Illustration of Yu-xie-shi-wang-Sheng-qi-Jing (Buddha's Utterance on Rituals to be Performed While Living in Preparation for Judgment by the Ten Kings of Hell, 預修十王生七經變相圖) in Temple-published Edition(Sagan-Woodblock, 寺刊板) designated as National Treasure No.206-1 and Treasure No.No.734-3, 734-4 are housed in Haeinsa Temple. One of these woodblocks designated as National Treasure No.206-1 has been known as CHong-An(鄭晏)'s work, made in 1246. The woodblock illustration designated as Treasure No.734-3 is presumed that it was reproduced the woodblock illustration designated as Treasure No.734-4. In other words it is commonly believed that the Treasure No.734-3 was made later than the Treasure No.734-4 and it was re-encarved using the Treasure No.734-4 as an original. In this essay author goes over the characteristics of these three Woodblock Illustration of Yu-xie-shi-wang-Sheng-qi-Jing and examines the chronological sequence between Treasures No. 734-3 and No. 734-4. According to optative mood of Woodblock Illustration of Yu-xie-shi-wang-Sheng-qi-Jing designated as a National Treasure No.206-10 has been known that it was made by CHong-An, in 1246. There are differences in ornaments depending on the hierarchical aspects. Comparing with the sacred images standing in the front row, the image of Grim Reaper from the last scene on this woodblock illustration heads for the other side. Besides, there's no ten sacred images Shi-Wang(the Ten Kings of Hell, 十王), only names of these ten sacred Shi-Wang and phrases of praise to them are following after the image of Grim Reaper. Therefore, adding the images of Shi-Wang from the Woodblock Illustration of Yu-xie-shi-wang-Sheng-qi-Jing designated as a National Treasure No.206-10, the Woodblock Illustration designated as a Treasure No.734-3 seems to be made again. Sacred images of Shi-Wang on the Woodblock Illustrations designated as Treasures No.No.734-3, 734-4 are the almost same, partially there are some differences in head and face shape, position, various motifs, margin size etc.. Hereby author reaches the conclusion the Woodblock Illustration designated as Treasure No.734-4 is not an absolute original copy of the Woodblock Illustration designated as Treasure No.734-3 and supposes it was made in the end of Koryu dynasty period, 14th century. In addition author of this essay supposes the existence of real original copy of the Woodblock Illustrations designated as Treasures No.No.734-3, 734-4. 해인사 소장 사간판 <예수시왕생칠경변상도>는 3종(국보 206-1호, 보물 734-3호, 보물 734-4호)이 있다. 그 중 국보 206-1호는 1246년에 鄭晏이 조성한 것으로 알려져 있다. 그리고 보물 734-3호 시왕변상도는 보물 734-4호 시왕변상도를 복각한 것으로 보고 있다. 즉, 보물 제734-3호본이 보물 734-4호본 보다 이후에 만들어졌고, 보물 734-4호본을 저본으로 복각하였을 것으로 보는 것이 주류이다. 이 글은 해인사 소장 사간판 <예수시왕생칠경변상도> 3종의 특징과 보물 734-3호, 734-4호본의 원형과 선후관계를 재검토한 것이다. 국보 206-10호 <예수시왕생칠경변상도>는 발원 기문에 의해 鄭晏이 1246년에 조성한 것이다. 변상도는 위계에 따라 문양장식에 차이를 두고 있다. 또한 변상도의 마지막 장면에 등장하는 명부사자는 앞열 도상과는 달리 반대방향을 향해 있고, 그 뒤를 이어 제1대왕에서 제10대왕에 이르는 존상명과 찬문들이 적힌 경문이 이어지고 있으나, 시왕도상은 생략되어 있다. 이에 국보 206-10호 <예수시왕생칠경변상도>에 생략된 시왕변상을 이후 추가로 제작한 것이 보물 734-3호본일 가능성이 있다. 그리고 보물 734-3호, 734-4호본 양자 간에 시왕변상 도상이 거의 흡사하나, 부분적으로 두부 및 안면 묘사, 자세, 각종 모티프, 광곽의 크기 등에서 차이가 보여, 반드시 양자 간에 직접적인 복각판으로 작용하지 않았을 것으로 판단된다. 즉, 보물 734-4호본은 보물 734-3호본과 동일계 본이나 직접적인 원형 모본은 아닌 것으로 보았고, 제작시기는 고려후기 14세기 경으로 추정하였다. 더욱이 보물 734-3호본과 보물 734-4호본에 관한 원형본은 별도로 존재하였을 것으로 본다.

        Recovery of Genes Epigenetically Altered by the Histone Deacetylase Inhibitor Scriptaid and Demethylating Agent 5-Azacytidine in Human Leukemia Cells

        Histone deacetylation and demethylation are epigenetic mechanisms implicated in cancer. Studies regarding the role of modulation of gene expression utilizing the histone deacetylase inhibitor scriptaid and the demethylating agent 5-azacytidine in HL-60 leukemia cells have been limited. We studied the possibility of recovering epigenetically silenced genes by scriptaid and 5-azacytidine in human leukemia cells by DNA microarray analysis. The first group was leukemia cells that were cultured with 5-azacytidine. The second group was cultured with scriptaid. The other group was cultured with both agents. Two hundred seventy newly developed genes were expressed after the combination of 5-azacytidine and scriptaid. Twenty-nine genes were unchanged after the combination treatment of 5-azacytidine and scriptaid. Among the 270 genes, 13 genes were differed significantly from the control. HPGD , CPA3, CEACAM6, LOC653907 , ETS1, RAB37, PMP22, FST, FOXC1, and CCL2 were up-regulated, and IGLL3 , IGLL1, and ASS1 were down-regulated. Eleven genes associated with oncogenesis were found among the differentially expressed genes: ETS1, ASCL2, BTG2, BTG1 , SLAMF6 , CDKN2D, RRAS, RET, GIPC1 , MAGEB, and RGL4. We report the results of our leukemia cell microarray profiles after epigenetic combination therapy with the hope that they are the starting point of selectively targeted epigenetic therapy.

        Undoing Colonialism from the Inside: Performative Turns in the Short Stories of Leonard Woolf and E. M. Forster

        This paper begins from reading seemingly colonial quest narratives in the short stories of Leonard Woolf and E. M. Forster side by side. Focusing on the erotic encounter between the colonizer and the colonized in the travel narratives of Leonard Woolf and E. M. Forster, we take a glimpse of the imperial gaze and colonial violence inflicted on the colonized. The capitalist economics of the British Empire exclude the body of the colonized and its specificity, while reproducing the stereotyped images of the colonized. However, Jessop’s narrative that focuses on Reynolds’ quest for a ‘real life’ while trivializing Celestinahami’s victimization in “A Tale Told by Moonlight” unveils a narrative lacuna. Similarly, Paul Pinmay’s pursuit of ‘the life to come’ that is performed with his desire for power over Vithobai in Forster’s “The Life to Come” ultimately reveals a colonial porosity that ironizes the colonizer’s desire. The spectre of death that persists in both stories discloses the possibility of the subversion of the power relationship seated in the colonial quest. The ambivalent mimicry of the colonial paradigm by Celestinahami and Vithobai destabilizes Reynolds’s and Jessop’s as well as Pinmay’s racist and capitalist economy, revealing the Western characters’ complicity with the imperial project. Woolf and Forster undo colonialism, adopting literary devices such as double narratives, irony, satire, and mimicry. They explore the dynamics of colonialism from the inside and disclose the violence of colonial desire and, at the same time, open up a possibility of subversive resistance from the colonized.

        한국 괘불탱의 저변과 확장성

        The global environment is changing in the face of hyper -connected age. On the other hand, the importance of culture is highlighted as a growth engine for improving national brands. Gwaebul Painting(掛佛幀) is a global heritage that can enhance national and social competitiveness and contribute to the creation of a new culture. In this article, we discussed the diversification of research views and the creation of a new culture as a modern utilization of sacred heritage, starting with the raising of several questions about the scalability of Gwaebul Painting. First of all, the question raised is the use of the Buddha directly related to the cultural vitality of Gwaebul Painting, the stable preservation and inspection systemization. Also, it is a matter of DB conversion of the original form of Gwaebul Painting, utilization of the original form data, and the construction of the archive construction. It is about the planning and construction of a platform that creates new values for the cultural vitality of Gwaebul Painting. The following is a diversification of research views. It raised the question of the size of the Gwaebul Painting and the problem of the term “one to six feet long”, the question of the Buddha's body and multilayered nature, the recognition of the importance and overall research on the primary data (support bar of Gwaebul painting, wooden sticks, pulleys, etc.). And it is a matter of modern use of sacred heritage to create a new culture. The first is the discovery of “K-Story,” the spiritual power of the Buddhist world. This is an opportunity for writers to create a new creative heritage. Second, as a heritage of healing and empathy, we must seek to expand the value of Gwaebul Painting and shift to new values. Buddha was used for various Buddhist ceremonies to settle the people's hearts and minds, including war, natural disasters, disease and famine. It is a heritage that appeared to heal conflicts and a common intangible heritage for healing. The value should be expanded from pain, conflict, antagonism and confrontation to a representative heritage of reconciliation and empathy. Third, it should be used to develop new cultural tourism contents. This should be returned to the local community and the cultural life index of local residents should be increased. Efforts should be made to discover the source of the OSMU (One-Source Multi-Use) that supports content development. It is an important religious ceremony to move a large Gwaebul Painting from a temple to an outdoor courtyard. In particular, the scene where Gwaebul Painting is enshrined and moved on a vehicle(行像) is an interesting way of celebrating the tradition of moving classical Buddhist statues. We need to learn from the old, develop new methods(法古創新), and use them for modern festivals. The goal of creating a new culture in the hyper-connected era is to distribute it to others through the power of culture. The most important thing is to promote empathy and symbiosis through healing and reconciliation. Therefore, this is why the cultural vitality of Gwaebul Painting is more urgent for the future. 초연결시대를 맞이하여 글로벌 환경이 바뀌고 있다. 한편 국가 브랜드를 제고하는 성장 동력으로 문화의 중요성이 부각되고 있다. 괘불탱은 국가․사회적 경쟁력을 제고하고 신(新)문화 창출을 기여할 수 있는 글로벌 헤리티지이다. 이 글에서는 괘불탱의 확장성에 대해 몇가지 문제 제기를 시작으로, 연구 시각의 다변화, 성스러운 유산의 현대적 활용으로서의 신문화 창출 등에 대해 살펴보았다. 먼저, 문제 제기는 괘불탱의 문화생명력과도 직결되는 괘불탱의 쓰임새, 안정적인 보존과 점검체계화이다. 그리고 괘불탱 원형의 DB화 및 원형 자료 활용, 아카이브 구축 문제이다. 괘불탱의 문화생명력을 지향하고, 새로운 가치를 창출하는 플랫폼 기획·구축에 관해서이다. 다음은 연구 시각의 다변화이다. 괘불탱의 크기와 ‘丈六掛佛’용어 문제, 연화수지형 장엄신 괘불 도상의 불신관과 중층성문제, 괘불탱을 둘러싼 1차적인 자료(괘불지주, 괴불대, 괘불싸개, 목봉, 도르래 등)에 대한 중요성 인지와 총체적인 연구, 괘불의 무형자산(화승, 괘불재)을 제기하였다. 그리고 글로벌 장(場)으로서의 신문화 창출을 위해 성스러운 유산의 현대적 활용에 관한 것이다. 첫째, 불교계의 영험력을 지닌 ‘K-스토리’ 발굴이다. 이는 작가에게 새로운 창작유산을 탄생시키는 계기가 된다. 둘째, 치유와 공감의 헤리티지로서, 괘불탱이 지닌 가치의 확대와 새로운 가치로의 전환을 모색해야 한다. 임진왜란과 병자호란, 자연재해, 질병과 기근 등 황폐화된 국토와 민심 수습을 위한 다양한 불교의례 행사에 괘불이 사용되었다. 갈등을 치유하기 위해 등장한 유산이자, 치유를 위한 공동의 무형유산이다. 고통과 갈등, 반목과 대립에서 화해와 공감의 대표격 헤리티지로 가치를 확대해야 한다. 세째, 新문화관광콘텐츠 개발에 활용하고, 지역사회로 환원하여 지역민들의 문화적 삶의 지수를 높이도록 해야 한다. 콘텐츠 개발을 지원하는 원소스멀티유즈(OSMU)의 원천소스 발굴에 노력해야 한다. 대형 괘불을 법당에서 야외 중정으로 옮기는 괘불이운은 중요한 종교의례이다. 특히, 가마에 괘불을 모시고 이운하는 광경은 고전의 행상(行像) 전통을 계승한 흥미로운 축제의 방법이다. 법고창신을 되새겨 새로운 방법들을 개발하여 현대 축제에 활용되어야 할 것이다. 초연결시대의 신문화 창출은 문화의 힘으로 남에게 나누어주는 것을 지향하게 된다. 무엇보다 중요한 것은 치유와 화해를 통해 공감과 공생으로 나아가는 것이다. 여기에 괘불탱의 문화생명력이 미래에 더욱 절실한 이유이다.

        The problems and suggestions of possible improvement of the current car insurance in Korea : Focusing on the compensation of personal injury

        Korean general insurance industry has grown fast. However, Korean auto insurance industry has experienced serious difficulties due to market saturation, high loss rate m.asiae.co.kr/view.htm?sec=n1&no=2008042408312091125 (the last access 2015.10.05.) and price regulations by authority lately. There have been various efforts to overcome the current difficult situation through the improvement and reform of automobile insurance system in Korea. There is a research proving that the current compensation system that embraces the principle of liability with fault and the liability insurance in relation to the motor vehicle accident which leads to physical injuries has a limitation on fairness, promptness, and efficiency. Firstly, looking from the fairness aspect, under the tort law compensation system, quite a few victims suffered physical injuries from motor vehicle accidents were not compensated at all, and many others who received the compensation were not appropriately compensated. Even sometimes, victims who received a serious bodily injury from motor vehicle accidents were given not enough compensation to cover their medical treatment. Secondly, looking from the promptness aspect, compensation process under the tort law compensation system is complicated and slow. As a result, victims are disadvantaged from it, this often leads to lawsuits. Thirdly, looking from the efficiency aspect, costs for operating the current compensation system is way too expensive. Younger the victim is and more serious the injury is, more court proceedings will be brought forward and the time for compensation will become even slower. This will later create transaction costs and therefore the compensation becomes inefficient. In this context I have a very keen interest in Accident Compensation Act(AC Act) of New Zealand. In my research on the improvement of Korean automobile insurance compensation system I am trying to use AC Act of New Zealand as a model for legislation. So the purpose of this study is to examine the New Zealand accident compensation scheme, so called ‘No-fault insurance system’ But I think ACC is not a kind of insurance but belongs to a social contract. , focusing the compensation for car accident victims, A recent report shows us that public trust and confidence on the services of ACC is 60%, clients’ satisfaction is 76%, and levy payers’ satisfaction is 69% in June 2015.(“Improve our customers’ outcomes and experience”, ACC Annual Report, 2015, pp.14~15) and compare it with Korean auto liability insurance system and related laws. Thereby, I want to have useful implications for the reform of Korean automobile insurance system. This article will focus on compensating personal injury caused by car accident. Currently in Korea, the motor vehicle insurance (liability for bodily injury Ⅰ) is a compulsory insurance under the law, and also it is operated as a semi no-fault system. That is, if a driver cannot prove that a passenger had committed a suicide or had an intention to harm him or herself, a driver is liable for the compensation. Therefore, analysis of the New Zealand’s Accident Compensation Act and its outcome will become great resources in the future for us to be able to efficiently reform the motor vehicle insurance and the tort law based compensation system. In this context I have a very keen interest in Accident Compensation Act of New Zealand. New Zealand has an unique compensation scheme, so called ‘No-fault scheme’, for the injured people by accident including motor accident. 40 years ago, the New Zealand legislated ‘Accident Compensation Act’ by operated ACC for accomplishment the responsibility of society for the injured. In this paper, I will analysis the current situation and problems of Korean car insurance and examine NZ’s ACC. Thereby, I want to have useful implications for the reform of Korean automobile insurance system. This article will focus on compensating personal injury caused by car accident. Korean car insurance has several problems related in personal injury compensation. There are: Insufficient compensation for the victims, Inadequate compensation for the insureds, Increasing in lawsuits against insurers and Expensive medical fees. There are two ways in approaching the reform of the current Korean compensation scheme for physical injuries. Firstly, maintaining the framework of the tort law compensation system and the liability insurance in order to strengthen the social security through social welfare and social insurance. On the other hand, the compensation for a physical injury issues to be handled only by the social insurance process. The compensation system that acclimatized to the principle of liability with fault may be difficult to change it to the no-fault system straight away in the first place. However, it is important to take a step by step. Looking from the long term perspective, those steps will later shift from the fault based compensation system to the no-fault based compensation system; make worker’s compensation scheme and the accident compensation scheme unified; and finally it will become one entity system like New Zealand where all accident injuries covered under the ACC which are governed by the Accident Compensation Act. New Zealand's universal injury compensation scheme might resolve the problems of overlapped compensations by social insurance and private insurance and of different charges for medical treatments. And also it provides prompt compensations for injured persons and operates efficiently because all the processes take place in the one entity. In these respects this study on the New Zealand's accident compensation scheme will contribute to social cost reduction of the operation of auto insurance system in Korea.
