      • 현대 산업직물 소재로 등장한 이질적 재료에 관한 연구

        직물의 표현성에 직접 관련되어 있는 소재는 현대 과학의 발달과 의식의 변화로 급진적인 발전을 이룩하였으며 독특하고 기발한 아이디어 표출로 새로운 창작의 장을 마련하였다. 특히 직물의 소재는 섬유만의 범위를 벗어나 종이, 플라스틱, 나무, 유리 금속 등에 이르기까지 다양하게 사용되었고, 이러한 재료들은 고도의 과학기술에 의해 신소재로 개발되어 독특한 질감과 효과를 발휘함으로서 과거에는 불가능하였던 감각이 가능하게 되어 새로운 미의 형성이 이루어지게 되었다. 본 연구는 직물에 도입된 이질적 재료인 종이, 플라스틱, 금속이 현대직물의 기능 및 감성의 향상에 기여한 요인을 분석하여 소재개발의 필요성과 중요성을 인식하고 미래의 직물개발에 도움이 되고자 하였다. 본 연구는 다음과 같이 요약된다. 1) 현대직물에 도입된 다채로운 소재들은 직물소재에 대한 선입관을 파괴하였고 아이디어 발상을 위한 창조적 계기를 마련하였다. 2) 현대직물에 도입된 다채로운 소재들은 다양한 첨단기법을 도입하여 기능에 있어서나 감성에 있어 첨단성을 추구하여 고부가가치를 지향하고 있다. 3) 현대직물에 도입된 다채로운 소재들은 다양한 조형 가능성을 제시하여 직물이 물리적 재료라는 국한된 의미에서 벗어나 표현 대상으로 인식되어지게 하였다. Materials that are related directly to textile representation underwent radical transformation due to development of modern science and change of consciousness, and brought about a new base of creation for textile with infusion of unique and novel ideas. Especially, such diverse and non-textile materials as paper, plastic, wood, glass, and metal are used widely as they are developed as new materials by advanced scientific technology. And as they provided unique textures and effects to modern textile and enabled hitherto unheard of new sensitivity, these new materials paved the way for the formation of new aesthetics. In this study, an attempt is made to analyze various factors in the contribution of such non-textile materials as paper, plastic, and metal to the enhancement of functions and sensitivity of modern textile for a renewed realization of the necessity and significance of material development and as a precondition for the development of future textiles. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, diverse materials that were used in modern textile helped destroy stereotyped ideas on textile material and provided an occasion for creative new ideas. Second, diverse materials that were used in modern textile are oriented toward creation of added value in function as well as sensitivity through the employment of advanced technologies. Third, diverse materials that were used in modern textile provided a new possibility of plasticity, enabling textile to overcome its physical limitation to be recognized as an object of representation.

      • 古代 페루의 거즈(Gauze) 직물 -그 技法을 中心으로-

        Among the varied prehistorec products of Peru perhaps the most challenging and intersting are the textiles. In the second and third millenia B.C., if not earlier, textiles were the primary media for artistic expression in Peru, and by the classical period (A.D.0 -A.D.900) that art of weaving was deeloped to such an extent that, according to experts, every known techniques of meodern weaving wasalready in use. Of these, the Peruvian gauze weave is considered by many asthe most original, not only in technical skills but in terms of aesthetic qualities as well. Some textiles woven in gauze techniques are similar in appearance to laces or nets; many of them have openwork patterns and show a sense of delicacy. But in characteristic gauze weave certain of the warp threads, before the insertion of a line of weft, cross over adjoining warps, and are then held in place by the weft. Loom-made gauzes utilize two-element techniques while nets or net-like fabrics are constructed on single-element principle. Analyses of the existing samples, based upon reconstructions of the several gauze patterns, led to the conclusion that most of the Pervian gauzes fall, in their techniques, into two basic types, Type Ⅰand Type Ⅲ as described in diagrams. The complixity of the patterns was not so much the result of warp manipulation as the outcome of imaginative planning and variation of basic techniques.

      • 현대조형물로서의 벽걸이

        Modern wall hanging, a special field in contemporary fiber art, shares much in common with the traditional tapestry in basic techniques, terminology and the materials used. But the similarity between the two does not go beyond that. Modern wall hanging is not so much an outgrowth of the traditional tapestry as a new art form which was made possible by the requirements of modern age and for the production of which the creativity of individual artists looms large. Many of the representative works of modern wall hanging have been produced in a relatively shortly period of time beginning with the 1960s. This was a period of experimentation and leading artists have become increasingly preccupied with the creation of their works in three dimensions. In fiber art, the cumulative effect of these experimentation was no less than epoch making since it signaled the diminishing significance of the wall: works of modern wall hanging were no longer designed to be hung on the wall. The conquest of space began in earnest. Three dimensional works of wall hanging, once located in space, necessarily came to create lived-in space, which in turn played an important role in broadening the intellectual and aesthetic horizon of artists into architectural dimension. Consideration of space as such now became an essential element in the production of modern wall hangings which include, in formal terms, wall relief, ceiling-suspended, free-standing and environmental works.

        금속재료를 활용한 금속직물의 특징과 의의

        현대 금속소재는 시대적 필요에 부응하여 끊임없는 변화를 거듭함으로서 미적 효과 창출에 있어서나 기능적 향상에 있어 상당한 발전을 이룩하여 첨단소재로 부각되고, 대중적 요구에 부합하여 유행 직물 소재로 자리매김 하고 있다. 이러한 금속직물에는 과감한 실험정신, 다양한 첨단기법, 다채로운 응용방법이 내재되어 있으며 첨단성, 미래성, 예술성을 포함함으로서 직물의 미래적 개념을 제시하고 있다. 이 연구는 이러한 금속직물의 특징을 분석하고 현대직물에 제시한 미래지향적 소재개발 방향을 파악하는데 의의를 두었으며, 다음과 같이 요약된다. 금속직물에 나타난 특징은 1) 금속재료의 속성 및 특성을 활용하여 직물의 성능 및 기능을 향상시키고 다양한 첨단기술을 도입하여 첨단성을 추구하였고, 2) 20세기 후반의 문화·예술적 내용을 포함하는 시대정신을 반영함으로서 대중화 소재로 자리매김 하였으며, 3) 다양한 실험적, 창조적 시도로 직물에 예술성을 부여하였다는 것이다. 이러한 금속직물은 1) 신기술과 감성의 접목에 의한 첨단화, 시대성 반영에 의한 대중화, 조형적 표현능력 극대화에 의한 예술화를 추구하여 현대직물에 새로운 가치를 부여하고, 2) 다양한 활용기법 및 기술 이전 방식을 채택하여 소재의 표현성 및 조형성에 의해 다양한 창조 가능성을 제시하여 직물의 표현 영역을 확대함으로써 미래지향적 소재 개발을 선도하고 있다는 점에서 의의가 있다. Modern metallic textile emerged as high-tech textile material as a result of considerable progress made in textile engineering both in terms of functional enhancement and creation of new aesthetics in the process of satisfying the demands of time. Imbued with the spirit of bold experiment, diverse advanced techniques, and varied application methods, the metallic textile presents futuristic concept of textile through its state-of-the-artness, futuristic orientation, and artistic value. In this study, an attempt is made to analyze characteristics of this metallic textile and to grasp the direction of material development that it presented to modern textile. The result of this study can be summarized as follows: In terms of its characteristics, metallic textile 1) enhanced performance and function of textiles utilizing various properties and characteristics of metallic materials and increased state-of-the-artness by introducing advanced technologies, 2) presented itself as a popular material by reflecting the spirit of the times including cultural and artistic contents of the 20th century, and 3) added artistic value to textiles through creative experiments. This kind of metallic textile has a significance in that it promotes development of future-oriented materials through 1) bestowal of new value to modern textile with its pursuit of a new aesthetics that is characterized by the grafting of cutting edge technology and sensitivity, popular appeal reflecting the spirit of the times, and maximum ability for plastic representation, and 2) presentation of diverse possibilities of creation that are imbued with expressivity and plasticity of the material by expanding representational areas of the textile through adoption of diverse utilization techniques and technology transfer methods.
