Transport Properties of Sn-doped CoSb3 Skutterudites

Sn-doped CoSb3 (CoSb3−ySny) skutterudites were prepared by hot pressing, and their doping effects on the thermoelectric and the electronic transport properties were examined. A single-phase δ-Co(Sb,Sn)3 was obtained, but it decomposed to г-Co(Sb,Sn)2 for y ≥ 0.3, which means that the solubility limit of Sn in Sb is y <0.3. The Hall and the Seebeck coefficients confirmed that all the Sn-doped CoSb3 samples exhibited p-type conductivity. The carrier concentration increased with increasing doping content. However, the carrier mobility decreased with increasing doping content because the hole mean free path was reduced by ionized impurity scattering. The Seebeck coefficient and the electrical resistivity decreased and then were almost independent of the carrier concentration because the increase in the carrier concentration caused by doping was competitive with the decrease in the carrier mobility caused by ionized impurity scattering. The thermal conductivity decreased with increasing carrier concentration because Sn acted as phonon scattering centers. The lattice contribution to the total thermal conductivity in the Sn-doped CoSb3 was dominant.

지난 2012년 11월, STOP-TB운동본부는 WHO Stop TB 파트너십 사무국과 공동으로 제1차 동아시아지역 파트너십 포럼을 서울에서 개최하였다. 이틀 동안 진행된 포럼은 동아시아지역 안에서 파트너십 참가국가 간 논의가 이루어지는 첫 기회로서 국제결핵사회의 큰 환영을 받았으며, 2년 만에 자카르타가 서울로부터 바통을 이어 받아 제2차 동아시아 파트너십 포럼을 개최, 협회 신상숙 사무총장을 비롯해 관계자 6명이 회의에 참석을 위해 인도네시아로 떠났다.
Bombyx mori b-tubulin Promoter for High-level Expression of Heterologous Genes

We previously isolated 9 clones that show stronger signal compared to Bombyx mori cytoplasmic actin gene (BmA3) by using a dot blot hybridization. In this study, we focused on one clone among these clones which has high amino acid similarity with b-tubulin gene of B. mori. This clone was ubiquitously expressed in all tissues and developmental stage of B. mori. As result of promoter assay using dual luciferase assay system, we found the highest transcription activity region (-750/-1) in the 5’-flanking region of b-tubulin gene, which has about 47 fold more intensive promoter activity than BmA3 promoter. Moreover, the b-tubulin promoter was normally regulated in Bm5, Sf9, and S2 cells. Therefore, we suggest that b-tubulin promoter may be used more powerful and effectively for transgene expression in various insects containing B. mori as a universal promoter.

The characteristic pathological lesions in ankylosing spondylitis are vertebral body osteoporosis, ankylosis of the apophyseal joints, intervertebral disc calcification and ligamentous ossification. Calcification of the annulus fibrosis reduces the movement and elasticity of the intervertebral disc, causing this point to be the site of least resistance when the spine is subjected to trauma. The rigid spine may secondarily develop osteoporosis, furher increasing the risk of spinal fracture. The ligamentous fragility and multiple fused vertebral segments cause the fractured ankylosing spondylitic spine to resemble a long-bone fracture. In ankylosing spondylitis patient who have sustained minor trauma, a complete radiological study of the entire spine and not just the symptomatic region must be performed for an accurate diagnosis, so that any fracture possible along the spine can be detected and thus prevent any medicolegal problems. The authors report 4 cases of ankylosing spondylitis including 2 cases with severe neurological abnormalities that had occured after minor trauma.
Thermoelectric Properties of Yb-filled CoSb3 Skutterudites

Yb-filled skutterudites YbzCo4Sb12 (z = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4) were prepared by encapsulatedmelting and hot pressing. The filling effects of Yb on the transport and the thermoelectric propertiesof the skutterudites were examined. In the case of z 0.3, a secondary phase (YbSb2) was formed,indicating that the filling fraction limit of Yb was z = 0.2 - 0.3. The intrinsic CoSb3 had a highpositive Seebeck coefficient, but Yb-filled CoSb3 exhibited a negative Seebeck coefficient. In the caseof z 0.1, the maximum absolute value of the Seebeck coefficient was | −231| μVK−1, and in thecase of z 0.2, the absolute value of the Seebeck coefficient increased with increasing temperature. The electrical conductivity increased and the Seebeck coefficient decreased with increasing Ybfilling content due to the increased carrier concentration. The thermal conductivity was reducedsignificantly by Yb filling, mainly due to a decrease in the lattice thermal conductivity. Also,the lattice thermal conductivity decreased with increasing Yb filling content, indicating that thephonon scattering was caused by the rattling of Yb fillers in the voids of the skutterudite structure. Yb0.2Co4Sb12 showed the highest figure of merit of 1.0 at 823 K.
에너지 하베스팅 센서네트워크에서 데이터의 긴급성을 고려한 QoS기반 MAC프로코콜 설계

에너지 하베스팅 센서네트워크에서는 노드의 전력상황을 고려하여 중계노드를 선택하는 매체접근제어 프로토콜이 요구된다. 기존의 EH-WSN (Energy harvesting wireless sensor network)의 연구들은 전력측면을 강조하다보니 센싱된 데이터의 긴급성과 같은 QoS (Quality of Service)를 크게 고려하지 못했다. 데이터의 긴급성에 따라 요구되는 전력 상황과 전송지연이 달라지도록 하여 데이터의 QoS에 맞는 매체접근이 이루어질 수 있도록 해야 한다. 중계노드의 경우 긴급하지 않은 상황에서 전력에 상관없이 모든 데이터를 중계하게 되면 막상 긴급 데이터가 발생할 경우 전력문제로 인해 지연이 크게 발생하는 상황이 생길 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 데이터의 긴급성에 따라 중계노드에 요구되는 전력상황을 다르게 설정함으로써 긴급데이터 발생 시에 발생할 수 있는 전력부족상황을 최소화하는 매체접근제어프로토콜을 설계하고 시뮬레이션을 통해 그 성능을 분석하였다. 성능분석결과 긴급데이터의 시간지연 및 신뢰성 성능이 향상됨을 확인할 수 있었다. In the EH-WSN (Energy harvesting wireless sensor network), a MAC (medium access control) protocol is required to select a relay node considering the power status of a node. Existing EH-WSN studies emphasize the power aspect, so it does not consider the QoS like the urgency of the sensed data. The required power and transmission delay must be changed according to the urgency so that the medium access control according to the data QoS can be performed. In case of relay node, relaying data without consideration of data urgency and node power may cause delay due to power shortage in case of urgent data. In this paper, we designed a MAC protocol that minimizes the power shortage that can occur during emergency data generation. For this, relay node requirements are set differently according to the urgency of data. The performance was analyzed through simulation. Simulation results show the reduced latency and improved reliability of urgent data transmission.
