To study the effect of the intramolecular hydrogen bondinghydroxyl group on the photochemistry of a β,γ-unsaturated ketone, racemic ο-hydroxyphenyl 1,2-dimethylcyclopent-2-enyl ketone and ο-methoxyphenyl 1,2-dimethylcyclopent-2-cnyl ketone were synthesized. Thus these two β,γ-unsaturated ketone were synthesized from ethyl 2-oxocyclopentanecarboxylate, after eight steps, in 18% yield.

$quot;Objective: To evaluate the status of cone margins and severity of cervical neoplasia as predictors of residual lesions in the remaining cervices, and provide guideline for further treatment or close follow-up. Method: We performed a 3-year retrospective study and reviewed 95 patients who had undergone cervical conization followed by subsequent hysterectomy. Result: The prevalence rates of positive cone margins were 33, 50, 44, 71 and 88% respectively in patients with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN)Ⅱ, CIN Ⅲ, cervical cancer stage Ia1, Ia2 and Ib1. The prevalence rates of positive residual lesions in postcone hy-sterectomy specimens were 0, 31, 19, 29 and 59% respectively in patient with CIN Ⅱ, CIN Ⅲ, cervical cancer Ia1, Ia2 and Ib1. Residual lesions were significantly more frequently found in patients with positive cone margins(51%) than in those with negative margins(4.8%). Positive predictive values of margin status for the presence of residual lesions were 0, 56, 36, 40 and 67% respectively. Negative predictive values of margin status for the absence of residual lesions were 100, 94, 94, 100 and 100% respectively. Conclusions: (1) The prevalence of positive cone margin and residual lesion increased with more severe cervical neoplasia. (2) Positive cone margins had significantly higher risks of residual lesion than negative cone margins. (3) Positive cone margin does not invariably indicate the presence of residual lesion. (4) Negative cone margin does not ensure the absence of residual lesion. Subsequent hysterectomy may be reserved for the patient with CIN Ⅲ or cervix cancer having positive cone margin or invasive lesion, or the patient who is not reliable for continuous follow-up.$quot;
Single Nodular Pulmonary Amyloidosis: Case Report

Amyloidosis is defined as the presence of extra-cellular deposits of an insoluble fibrillar protein, amyloid. The pulmonary involvement of amyloidosis is usually classified as tracheobronchial, parenchymal nodular, or diffuse alveolar septal. A single nodular lesion can mimic various conditions, including malignancy, pulmonary tuberculosis, and fungal infection. To date, only one case of nodular pulmonary amyloidosis has been reported in Korea, a case involving multiple nodular lesions. Here, we report and discuss the case of a patient having single nodular amyloidosis.

A case of fetal supraventricular tachycardia which caused fetal hydrops was diagnosed at 29 weeks of gestation by fetal echocardiography. Transplacental fetal therapy with ma-ternal intravenous digoxin administration resulted in restoration of normal fetal sinus rhythm and disappearance of fetal hydrops on 7th day after initiation of treatment when the mat-ernal serum digoxin level was 2.11 ng/mL. The fetus showed normal sinus rhythm when evaluated by fetal echocardiography during the remainder of pregnancy with maternal oral digoxin maintenence. At birth, the infant did not show any cardiac arrhythmia and hydropic appearance.

Myotonic dystrophy is an autosomal-dominantly inherited neuromuscular disorder characterized by slowly progressive muscular dystrophy, muscle weakness and myotonia. The clinical features may vary from just cataracts to involvement of multiple organ systems such as various muscles, heart, lung and intestine. During pregnancy and delivery, serious maternal and obstetrical complications may occur. The myotonia is often aggravated during pregnancy and it leads to obstetrical complications such as fetal loss, preterm premature delivery, hydrops, in-utero fetal death, difficulties in fetal expulsion, postpartum hemorrhage and/or anesthetic accidents. The affected neonate may display severe hypotonia, facial displegia and respiratory distress. This report presents a woman with myotonic dystrophy complicated with congestive heart failure and preterm delivery during pregnancy.
Ti-4Al-4Fe-0.25Si 합금의 고온변형거동과 미세조직발달에 관한 연구

Hot deformation behavior of Ti-4Al-4Fe-0.25Si alloy with martensite microstructure was investigated by compression tests at temperatures of 1023 - 1173 K (α+β phase region) and strain rates of 10-3 - 1 s-1. By analyzing the deformation behavior, plastic deformation instability parameters including strain rate sensitivity, deformation temperature sensitivity, efficiency of power dissipation, and Ziegler’s instability were evaluated as a function of deformation temperature and strain rate, and they were further examined by drawing deformation processing maps. The microstructure evolution was also studied to determine the deformation conditions under which equiaxed α phase was formed in the microstructure without remnants or kinked α phase platelets and shear bands, these last two of which cause severe cracks during post-forming process. Based on the combined results of the processing maps and the microstructure analysis, the optimum α+β forging conditions for Ti-4Al-4Fe-0.25Si alloy were determined. (Received January 20, 2016)

TiAi intermetallic compound has been extensively studied for possible high temperature structural applications because of its high specific strength at high temperature, high creep resistance, and good oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures. In addition to its good properties, an economic manufacturing routes should be developed for this material to be used more extensively. One of the promising route in manufacturing TiAl intermetallics is the Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis (SHS) method. Thus in this study, an attempt was made to study the mechanism of the SHS process in TiAl synthesis. The composition of the sample was Ti-(45, 50, 53)at% Al and the microstuctures of the products were analyzed using optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. When the phases formed at the main SHS reaction of whicyh combustion temperature is higher than the melting temperature of aluminum were identified as TiAl and Ti$_3$Al ; Ti$_3$Al cores surrounded by TiAl phase. In order to increase the combustion temperature, carbon was added 5 and 10at.%. When the carbon content was 10at.%, the heat of the reaction was large enough to melt the phase formed and that is consistent with the theoretical calculation results of the adiabatic temperature. The combution temperatue, which was measured by a computer data acquisition system, increased with the carbon content. The phases formed from the reaction involving the carbon added were indentified as TiAl and Ti$_2$AlC using XRD. The vickers hardness of the reaction product increased with the carbon content.
